Good day guys. I just feel like sharing a problem here so people can see and probably learn.

I'm in my fifth year of studying chemical engineering in Niger Delta University, Bayelsa state. I've never had an F in my life before. I've always been an 'A' student. I've had 5points twice in that same department, I'm among the top three students in the whole of faculty of engineering for my set but here I am battling with an F awarded to me by my HOD herself. On that same result she gave me my first F, I had 6 A's and 1 F which was hers so my chances of graduating is very slim as it stands right now. I might unfortunately be having a spill after all resources spent on B.Eng.

Now I've not gone to meet her cos of some reasons.....on showing us our results, she made it known to us that no modification on that result again, that's not the only issue, this particular lady has been on my neck since from my 300level days, complaining about my dressing like do chemical engineers dress on jalabia? but that was all I could afford by then, sometimes she says I don't look like a student from my dressing cos I wasn't putting on shoes but palm. She sees me outside and accuses me of bunking classes and not reading, a lot of things.

I also can't tell if its a tribal sentiment, I'm a northerner and this lady is a bayelsan, plus I've heard one of our lecturers telling me to my face that I can't make a first class in their school. I still don't know why I chose this school in the first place. I'm just confused now, I don't think I deserve all these.

I'll meet her tomorrow hopefully and hear from her, I just hope I don't come back for a spill in this school, I might just drop out or defer to complete my schooling later in life. Thanks for reading.

Some lecturers are just too wicked, they're always trying to fail their students for no reason. Imagine, a lecturer denying his student an "A" grade he earned just because he doesn't want that student to graduate with a first class or a 2:1, this is an act of wickedness that most be curtailed, else the dream of so many students will continue to be shattered..
BTW.. whatever it turns out to be pls don't give up, jst accept it and move on, The Almighty is in control..

Thanks, I'll try to move on. Age isn't even smiling at me now. I won't give up but I won't come for a spill immediately if it turns out to be that. I just have to make a life outside school.

Getting all A's in your other courses doesn't mean a thing. A in one course is not mutually exclusive to F in another course.
Did you write well in her course? Do you think you are being victimised? Oya drop your answer.

This is sadism of the highest order. Report the matter to any good senior lecturer you know in time.as many as you know b4 its too late both within and outside the dept. Let dm interfere and try to talk some sense to her. Try and follow up to know the outcome. If u find out dat she is unyielding. Report to d dean and if nothing is done abt it. Quickly request for it to be marked again in the senate and try to meet and discuss with any strong and good staff you know or think can make things right . Eg d dvc acad or admin or registrar or even vc to help and ensure dt its marked properly. If u are sure u wrote well in ur exams, u will surely prevail f u follow ds advice. Make sure u do things quickly if u want to go for service in time. Dont gv up. Dnt yield to her wickedness.

Just report the woman to the appropriate authority, or you better apply for remarking because I believe that final year results are supervise by external examiners from different school to make sure whether the lecturer marks it well or not

Thanks, I was in her office today where she showed me my script. I was surprised to see some of my works not marked at all. She updated just one which carries 2marks and pushed me out of her office when I was showing her more things after trying to prove to me that I didn't construct my answers well to her marking scheme even if my answers were correct. I just weak. Do you think I stand a chance if I still take this matter up?

She's my HOD, I can only appeal through her and that makes it somewhat not possible cos its her course.

Were you able to take a picture of the script? Your school must have a complaint authority or something, but before that, go to any lecturer you're close to and tell him the whole thing, seek his advice/help on what to do. ( It's ideal to go to a disciplined lecturer/prof, someone your HOD can listen to)

I couldn't take a pic, I'll talk to my project supervisor about it by Monday and get his advice too.

I feel for you brother... Perception matters a lot... As she had complained about your dressing and other stuff you would have adjusted or just pretended to... After all it's just to pass your thing and go.. Humility matters a lot. . Just pray and humble yourself to her.. Cos if you want to fight her it will be a very long fight.... Appeal to her senses... If it's just one course you can do that as long vacation exam..... From my own experience, I played to the gallery and behaved as if I don't knw anything, always acting and pleading covertly for them to give me my A's....... Again if you do not have a lecturer backing you up... Your case go hard o.. All the best... Bro

Thanks a lot. I might not be having a spill if my my second semester's exams come clear according to her. She said the F will be waved if that's the only F I have in my final year. I so hope I don't fall victim again in my second semester results. I'm actually waiting for that result to be out now.

final year student's scripts are not remarked.... Hence the need for external examiners... Going over the head of same hod that failed him is like declaring war... I am here wondering how he got to final year without been friendly and close to any of his lecturers.. And he expects to make first class.... It was a serious character flaw..of which he is been made to suffer for....

The course in question is being handled by his Hod so there is no way you can expect her to be objective in this kind of situation. Final year does not make it OK for someone to be unjustly failed, therefore a remark is still in accordance.
