Good day everyone and congrats to those that have had their babies and congrats in advance to those yet to.

Pls i have an issue. What is the consequence of my baby's ssn being used for us tax refunds by an host and how can one cancel so there wont be a re-occurrence. Thanks in advance

There are no present consequences as long as you continue to allow the host use your baby's SSN to file tax.

The only way you can stop that host to stop using your baby's SSN to file tax is to tell the host to stop using it and if they don't stop you might as well have to call the US IRS office and get the person reported.

Thanks dear. Already told her to stop. I just hope she does so it doesn't get ugly

Taking Medicaid as already mentioned will seriously ruin your chances of coming back to the states in a looong time. You could also mention the hospital, someone here might have information on how to navigate waters as per that location. All the best and hope your baby is doing great now.

Someone just told me a story today.

Her friend had a child in the US and her host has been using the childs SSN for tax refunds. She had no idea whatsoever but her husband was aware and was even getting a cut sef.

Fast forward to second missionary journey, the CBP at LAX POE brought up the matter and she was sent back to Nigeria.

I don't know what happened afterwards as na there the gist end. So please report the matter o before it affects you

Actually wondering if there isn't a connection between this SSN stuff and the new development of VOs frowning at international patients' use of US address both at the hospital, for BC, and PP.....

As in!!!!!

The fear of identity fraud did not even allow me to request for a SSN. I ticked the box that said that I am not requesting one at this time through the hospital from the state. My address stated in the US is trusted but these things can even get intercepted.

No one can steal a SSN that does not exist abi? (Hopefully the process for applying for one is rigorous enough)... undecided

Funny enough, the tax returns they get from claiming people’s children is not been much. Max of $1K I think. I have only one child, but didn’t even get the full amount. And with Trump’s new tax rules, they have started scrutinizing peoples tax returns like mad.

I belong to a Mommy group on Facebook and I’ve heard some people said that IRS have contacted them to submit evidence that the children they’re claiming on their tax returns are their biological children or direct dependents. They have to submit birth certificates, doctors letters and papers to the IRS to allow the IRS verify them. Imagine, having to prove that your kids are yours! All because of greedy people who claim their cousins, nephew, nieces or even their neighbors kids during tax time for a bigger refund that’s not even worth it.

It’s illegal and a crime to claim that a child lives in your house and that they’re your dependents on your tax forms, when indeed they’re not.

You're right...but some people have been doing it until either they get caught or reported to IRS.

It is not a thing I would advice even my worst enemy to fall victim of or be caught doing.

That’s right! All that wahala just to get into wahala with IRS on top $1K max? And IRS is the last people anybody wants to get in trouble with. They will harrass the living daylights out of you and that’s of they don’t put a lien on your credit record — which is another story that touches. Smh.

Hello All, I'm new to nairaland so following up on all the conversations has been overwhelming. I'm currently in the U.S to have my baby. I applied for drop box (b1/b2) and got my visa in January. travelled late Feb at about 32wks. At POE I was sent to secondary inspection and the stamped a May 1st return date which is approx 1 week after my EDD. They asked if i told them at the interview that i was coming to give birth, i said no, didnt have an interview. They seem shocked at first and had never heard of drop box. I'm sure I can't travel with a 1 week old newborn. I'm really confused. my original return trip is mid May. Pls I need your urgent advice. Thanks.

Check the date well, US date format is different from ours. Check if it is September 1st

There has been a lot of ugly stories.
It's better to be safe than sorry.
I'm going to get a longer stay at the hotel just to avoid this.
For new mums stay longer where you can be the first to get hold of it instead of your host.

Good morning House,
Please has anyone issued a flight ticket with an incomplete surname before...incomplete compared to what is on the passport? Were you able to fly with it like that? How was it resolved please?

Thank you.

Didn’t say I want to wait to fly. I have already complained and I was told I have to purchase a new ticket and ask for a refund with the “hope” to have my money refunded. So i’m asking to know if someone has been through this and that was the only way out.

Good evening Everyone , please I am here again to get more clarity on my case.
I applied last year August for birth tourism but was refused. I posted my transcript and I was told to wait till I am 5month pregnant.
I am presently not pregnant and I dont intend seeking birth tourism in US anymore because of some personal reason.
But will love to visit LA in May ending as one of my bucket list.
I will love to go for sight seeing, shopping and attending a Cake designing show
I like to stay for 6 weeks and return home in early July so that I can beat the summer crowd.
I have a planned Itinerary to back it up.
My question will I look desperate to the VO if I change from Birth tourism to pleasure?
Do I have to wait until I am pregnant again before I can reapply?
I need advice from you all.
Thanks
