The Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, has lamented the incursion of herdsmen into the state.

The governor made this known on Friday while receiving the Assistant Inspector General in charge of Zone 5, Rasheed Akintunde in Delta.

Akintunde was on a familiarisation tour of the state police command.

Okowa disclosed that some communities in Uwheru, Ughelli North LGA of the state had been completely taken over by herdsmen who now allegedly charge fees before the community members can access their farms.

He said the safety of the residents of the three affected communities was threatened by the incursion of the herdsmen.

The governor said, “There is a particular community in Delta State, at a point in time, we discussed it at security council meeting and just yesterday (Thursday) while I was in Ughelli North for my regular Town Hall meeting, the people raised a very serious issue about the Uwheru community.

“It is a very pathetic situation, because the President-General of the community spoke on the fact that out of seven communities, three of them are actually occupied by the herdsmen and the farmers are told that they must pay the herdsmen before they can enter their farms and that is very disturbing because it is strange for indigenes to pay money before they can enter their farms and I believe something has to be done before it evolves into a crisis situation.

“And this has been going on for several years but it has gotten worse of recent. So, AIG, this situation has to be addressed immediately as security issue.”

Okowa maintained that only the synergy between the different security agencies in Delta had kept the state safe so far.

Imagine a governor of a state complaining to us. You were elected to deal with problems not come and wail before us. He said this has been going on for a while, making it look like something of few weeks or months, but truth be told this has been happening in Uwheru for over 2 years now. The Army, Police as well as the state government is well of it.

Okowa had chosen to be a weakling for his own political sake, and continues to fail to deal with these marauding Fulani herdsmen who kill, maim, rape and destroy farmlands of natives.

Okowa, who are you reporting the issue of your state to, is it the security operatives who are already instructed not to touch the Fulani herdsman no matter what they do? Okowa, you can only use your wife and children as collateral to get position from pa Buhari and not the Deltas. What kind of governor are you, oh, only to steal? You are empty up there, otherwise, how can the farmers pay the Fulani herdsmen before they enter their farms and you are stupidly voicing it out? Okowa, you are a shame to that stay, may all the evil you are intentionally heaping on Deltas catch up with you no matter the jazz that you do. Since the indigenes themselves have refused to protect themselves because Okowa is afraid that was he told Deltans not to fight back, Okowa is a Fool. Don't worry because your immediate family will partake in Fulani herdsmen massacre, di you see Ortem today? At the early stage of carnage in Benue, Ortem left for solidarity in Aso Rock while Benue was burning and today his rice farm was breakfast, lunch and dinner for the herdsmen and their cows.
