the issue is more complicated than that

most of us know, on some level, that our kazzeems and artisans in general are ripping us off
the avoidance of maintenance is not just about carelessness, but about wariness.

9 times out of 10, you send your car to be fixed or maintained, something is stolen from it.
or worse, you begin on a odyssey of needless repairs

there was an instance when a vendor engaged by our company swapped out the brakes on an ogas car so that they would come back to order new brakes. there was a time i believe they swapped out my car tires ; because i suddenly noticed that my one year old car had worn out tires.

this applies to just about everything. for instance i have an asus laptop with a battery issue. unfortunatly, i just found that yu have to take the laptop apart to get at the battery. i'm comfortable with run of the mill swapping of hdd, ram etal, but i shy away from complete disassembly. i am 80% sure if i take the laptop to fis the battery , a week latter something will stop working or fail, maybe my speakers or something, becaus the average nigerian, as you have learnt is a predatory , greedy bastard

the solution is not practical - resolve to spend the entire day at the workshop of the repairer.

i am going to assume that your question is how do you prevent your staff [in your workshop] from stealing from cars

the theft is two fold - things like money, phone chargers etal, or actual car parts

for personal belongings of clients
1) the usual items in car are at owners risk

2) a process in place where there are cabinets/lockers which clients move all their car valuables to just before handing the car over

3) a proper job logging system where it is clear that mr a worked on mr e's car

4) high definition cctv so that you can do your own checks afterward/ issue resolution

for car parts it is more complicated, bt let me try
1) as said before, you need to have a proper logging system; register your clients, their cars, and thoroughly track their vehicle maintenance. f you have this in place, there is always a record of who worked on what car. if a particular person is stealing from peoples cars, the records will out this [ assuming they do not take their cars elsewhere]

2) the cctv noted before. you can observe if yuor staff appear to be picking things from people's cars

3) a sign in sign out system. anything stolen would have to be taken out of the place. so if your staff/personnel have an area where they must stash all their belongings before they enter the workshop, and are checked before leaving the workshop [checking area is a cctv area]

4) sureties . anyone you employ must have a surety in an ironclad contract.

5) you must put some mean clauses on stealing into the employment letter and follow them up [so people see you mean business]

6) from the psy ops side, you must find a way to promote rivalry among your staff. once they are all paddy paddy, they will join hands to rip you off. if they are factionalized, they will be wary as there is the risk that mr a will snitch on mr b

assuming you are referring to your own car, then your driver or car operator must be legally responsible for the car and everything in it, or you mys have a specific vendor who does your vehicle maintenance

No 2000 Camry in good condition, except faulty AC can go for that amount.

This is the story of how I spent 5 days on the road between Benin and Abuja because of one car. Pls the purpose of this thread is to detail things I went through so someone else can learn something from my ordeal should they find themselves in a similar situation.
First let me say I have never been a fan of the Honda Accord and I have my reasons. I only agreed to travel with this one as it was the only option. I attended a wedding in Benin last week with the car. Left Abuja early Thursday. Before then the car was having minor overheating issues for which I visited the mechs a day prior to check that and other things. They checked and couldn't find anything wrong with the cooling system. I embarked.The temperature rose only once on the way and after letting it cool for about 30mins we continued and made Benin in record time I must say. EOD V6 can run sha.
Got to Benin and did all the running around within Benin Friday and Saturday without any issues. Just once the brake was making sound as I was entering the hotel. I'll not comment on my personal thoughts about Benin.
