Gourdoinc:Let's start over. I'm looking at what is the minimum livable, not slave wage, monthly salary for a single person, not a married person with kids. This position will also get a year-end bonus based on company performance. |

Gourdoinc:You're absolutely correct. It's Ibadan. |

EgunMogaji:Ibadan is a pretty cheap city, cheap accommodation, cheap transport (good transport) etc. well the median pay for comfort In that city to be counted as living wage is between (75k to 100k) for a single individual. but to capture savings of at least 35percent while still enjoying the benefits of the living wage structure, I think a median of the range plus 35 percent of the maximum is applicable, 122,500 apparently . this can offer an individual loving singly in Ibadan the same comforts as a middle level 300k salary earner in Lagos State or abuja |

EgunMogaji:consider the following are you employing a working class or middle class worker? what do you consider cost of daily meals? what would cost of transport to and from your workshop be? what is the typical annual rent for [face me i face you/ self contained/2 room apartment?] what would you consider as reasonable allowance for health [or would you pay medical seperately] would you put in closed user group to knock down cost of communication with your team? would you make allowance for cost of living as follows [projected phone calls, nepa bills, petrol for generator, buying of water] how much is tax in ibadan, and is it likely to get worse? you can consider assigning figures to all of the above to flesh out an annual salary. afte this you can put in your factor for savings. you can also try to get an idea by engaging people running businesses in ibadan note however, that a good wage is not a guarantee of honesty. most nigerians are simply fked in the head, and can only be unfked by a sojourn in a society that works. |

[quote author=PrettyCrystal post=65941812][i]My next point of action wasn't to commit crime by becoming a petty thief, but I kept hope alive and Started as a waiter in one of the hotels in town with 19k as my Monthly take home. 19k of a truth can't sustain me for the Month, but It was the best option I took than to remain idle at home.] Since the take home could not sustain you, oya tell us how you were doing it? you were stealing abi?

oyb:This is an area where I think the government has failed. Here, for example, you have this set in stone by the government: "California has approved a gradual increase to the state minimum wage based on the size of the employer. In 2018, the minimum wage is $10.50 for employers with up to 25 employees (smaller employers) and $11 for employers with 26 or more employees (larger employers). In 2019, those numbers will increase to $11 for smaller employers and $12 for larger employers. These annual increases will continue until 2023, when all employers must pay a minimum wage of $15. " No ambiguity, no wayo wayo calculations by employee, employer or labour union. I suspect that it will be tough to get a correct answer to this. As you asked, is he living in a face to face or self-contain? What is/should be the standard, face to face or self-contained? My employer here do not care how many miles I drive to work though they encourage and subsidize transport somewhat with free bus passes, etc I've had jobs where I drove 100 miles one way each day before (now I go to work only two days a week, 25 miles one way and I consider it a hardship - lol). |

EgunMogaji:it really boils down to the individual's choice i am renting. and i am renting in a detached standalone building. this means i pay probably twice as much as some of my colleagues, who go for the shared compound /building model each model comes with its benefits and issues people make choices on rent based on this. some may decide they don't need the drama of a face me i face you. others may decide that money is more important. the shared compound /face me i face you is a bit like university dorms - you dont know what you're going to get. you may get friends for life, or you may get straight up psychos as neighbours some may decide to live outside of town where rent is cheap; though you can grow old in traffic/getting to work early. |

in my company, our contract project guys are paid roughly 150k/month i remember the biggest challenge for one of the guys under me was rent [in lagos, not sure about the rest of nigeria, rent is paid upfront [1to 2 years, even with the laws against it] the guy even though he was pretty smart, got sucked into MMM at the tail end and lost some money. he had hoped he would make some money for xmas. when i think over his lifestyle, it was a struggle. though for most Nigerians life is a struggle. if you're not hiring a solidly middle class employee, he is going to have dependents, whether he is married or not. parents, siblings in school. but i think 150k is actually good for ibadan. you can also throw in the nigerian 13th month and profit sharing "California has approved a gradual increase to the state minimum wage based on the size of the employer. In 2018, the minimum wage is $10.50 for employers with up to 25 employees (smaller employers) and $11 for employers with 26 or more employees (larger employers). "we have minimum wage na - 18k. i want to knock it but i also know i cannot afford to pay a maid 18k per month, which may be why we don't have one |
