Nothing is wrong with life in Abuja, except the cost of housing. Roads are good, the police is less insane compared to other parts of the country, water supply system works, it is much safer compared to, for example, Owerri, Port Harcourt or Lagos at night. A lot of diplomats, big companies and therefore a lot of police and other agents around. Supermarkets can be more expensive, but if you get your groceries from Garki or Wuse market, you will be just fine. Trafic jams happen from 1pm and around 5 to 6pm, but that happens even in major European cities. So I wonder what makes Abuja one of the worst to live in...

Regarding Tripoli, I have spent some time there, before the war. before the war, it was as good for living as major European cities.

It's very obvious. Lagos na just hype. It still lacks state owned infrastructure like other states. If not for private companies Lagos for be dead zone.

From poor health care, poor housing system to poor transport system. Bad roads like other states , bad electricity, poor state university and polytechnic like other state.

A couple of years ago I'd have argued with this ranking but now I completely agree. With all the refuse we have flowing around. With broken traffic lights and non functioning street lights (even when that stupid pig Ambode claimed he spent billions on street lights). Lagos today is mess. And that fool wants to collect more money from us through taxes. When Fashola did 10× better without collecting shit from us.

It should be there because the basic amenities that should be present in a "country's capital" are lacking there. The epileptic power supply in Nigeria (Abuja included) and the health care problems (Aso rock clinic for example) are good reasons why it should be on the list.

One who claims it is the worst has to prove that claim first. I have lived in Abuja for 5 years, but I have lived for nearly 10 years in Lagos and Owerri so, trust me, I know how difficult the life in West Africa can be.

Unlike Owerri, Abuja has good infrastructure (thank you, Julius Berger!), smaller but decent international airport, good water supply, good sewage system and, more importantly, because of all diplomats and foreign companies, a lot of police and other agents.

Why is Abuja better than Lagos?

1. Infrastructure. In Lagos, you can not plan your movement. From Ikoyi to Festac, for example, sometimes you need 15 to 20 minutes, sometimes you need over 4 hours.

2. Less security in Lagos.

In which areas is Lagos better than Abuja?

1. More businesses. Large companies first come to Lagos, rather than to Abuja.
2. Availability of goods. If you need a specific car part, compute paart or even aircraft part, Lagos is the place to be, not Abuja.
3. Bigger market. If you aremaking something and selling it, better do it in 20-illion people city than in one of around 2 million.
4. It is harder for lunatics to come all the way to Lagos to blow something up and not get killed along the way

I traveled for the first time out of Nigeria and realized a lot has to be fixed in Nigeria. I went to Johannesburg and Durban for a conference and realized South Africa is far better than Nigeria in terms of constant light, good roads, road signs, transport system, water, food, schools, hospitals which are mostly free for the citizens, no open drainage, good cars (They don't drive used cars) etc. Infact, I was dazed about the beauty and organization of some places in Durban and my friend said comparing Nigeria with SA is like trekking from there to Nigeria. May God help us.
