Yeah, I need a 4WD SUV but I'm comfortable with my choice. It's as low key as it can get based on my own individual experience and it will work. It's not just one thing but part of a totality of combination. Keeping low key is my natural disposition.

We all have our own individual choices to make.

How much does it cost to do a steel tank stand of may e 6m? Thanks
An average of N300k. Depending on the type of H beam or steel pipes you use. There various thickness of pipes and sizes of H beams available. Another factor that affects costs is the type of foundation and base done for the stand. There's the thick plated steel used to form the footing of the H beam or pipes and then sits on a concrete pad . There are other elaborate types of bases where the footings are much deeper. The cost will vary according to choice.

Having guard dogs is a security option especially against bugglers and theives. However, well trained guard dogs are an expensive choice. Also, not everyone is an animal lover. My wife hates cats and dogs. She literally does not eat food nor drink water in a house that owns a cat.

My neighbor kept dogs for his business, we almost left the house before he ditched the dog business. I am also the kind who will properly wash hands because i played with dogs. I would not be comfortable with an animal living inside my own home unless even if it was properly trained.

These things are challenges some people like me face.
Naturally I like dogs and if I have to permanently live in Nigeria, l know how to get around it, I might get dog trainers and all that stuff, chai, Nigeria security situation is precarious sad

Once again, the stand alone tank stand and the roof cage mounted water tank base.

They both supply water stored from an overhead tank, aided by the force of gravity. They have some advantages and disadvantages.

The steel mounted tank stand takes some compound space, some people has this fear it will fall, its a little costlier.

The tank base built on top of the house mostly mounted on a decked portion of the roof is cheaper to build and does not consume compound space but can cause big problems for the health of the building if it ever leaks. Leaks can occur as water from broken joints, rain water falling into the decked tank base or even water overfill from pumps.
I like this topic because we already know that in Nigeria, you must provide your own water. Therefore, a solid plan of where to hang tanks and done in a smart way that water can easily flow from gravity to service the building water forcets and toilets is as important today as building the house itself.

I think it is better to hang a medium weight tank on the building about 500 gallons only. If a way of getting up there to fix broken joints or leaking tank is easily factored into design of the building, then mounting the tank (Just 500 gallons) on the building will be a great and smart move.

But, making sure a hole exists in the decking where one can easily climb up there with a small ladder to fix the plumbing issue quickly must be provided if not it's not a good idea to put a leaking tank up there and let it leak for years without doing anything about it.

More importantly, builder should begin to revolutionize Rooftop Solar panels in Nigeria to help solve the electricity crisis in Nigeria and produce clean renewable electricity.

Solar panels will be the next goldmine for factories that will go into local production of high quality panels in Nigeria.

I’ve seen very few houses with rooftop solar panels, but I’ve been to many houses that have inverters in the house. Are the rooftop solar panels theft-proof?

I was in Nigeria for 3 weeks and it was very peaceful. It seems that the stuff one reads about Nigeria online is different from the real situation of things. Of course, electricity is still an untamed monster but I saw people moving about their businesses. The only bad experience was some policemen that picked me out of the traffic in PH, hopped into the car and demanded N25k for violation of trumped up law or else they'd take me to their station. After negotiations, they settled for N500 after listening to the "long stories of my life". I need to polish my pidgin English.

Staying safe in Nigeria is understanding the nature of crime in Nigeria and juxtaposing this with the causal components of one's life chances.

Modern day violent crime in Nigeria comprise kidnapping, cult/gang bank armed robbery, Fulani herdsmen and ritualist. As you can see, high fences is a wrong solution to these crimes.

If you look at the nature of the crimes again, apart from Fulani herdsmen, all the other crimes are intelligence driven based on insider information. This is where one's lifestyle comes in. The biggest breach of personal information and lifestyle is allowing TOTAL strangers into personal space and family homes as gatemen, house help, drivers etc. This is where the diaspora and middle class home base are most vulnerable. It's good advice not to show off or draw attention to one's self. So even if you built the highest fence there is and employ a Niger republic gateman you think is an hausa man, you are open to being done for kidnapping. Same with driving about in flashy cars especially the diaspora. Same with building high fences, you draw attention to yourself. Low profile is bliss.
I miss this your response, this is very correct and spot on, most of the crimes committed by hoodlums in Nigeria is all captured in this post, the rat in the house is the one that shows the rat outside the pathway to your domain sad

There should be a way to roughly estimate the amount of sand (tonnage) required to sand fill a water logged land if we can measure the average depth of the water at various points on the land.

Most times we just hear keep pouring sand trips until its level, but i believe there should be a way of doing some calculation that could help plan the cost ahead.

Any ideas? Has anyone done this before?

Blame Nollywood.

When you build, na you sabi wetin dey inside. Besides, kobo kobo people houses are always stronger. They let rain beat the concrete and block works for years before continuation. Try beating that.

Before I travelled to the West for further studies, I lived in a 2bedroom apartment in Lagos, owned by a Serving police woman from the southwest, l paid my rent and moved in, but before I did, l prayed and anointed the flat before I packed in, let me not prolong this writeup, as at the last count, the landlady died, a Pastor who lived in my unit died before I packed in, another neighbor occupying the only self contained room died via a ghastly accident along Mile 2 express way, another woman living in one of the unit lost the husband, as at the last count more than 9 people died in that building.

Only myself, a redeem pastor married with 4children and another tenant survived the angel of death hovering on the building, it is when I packed out as a result of my traveling for further studies that the neighborhood opened up to me on all that has been happening in the same house for years, fingers were pointed to the landlady who eventually also died via accident along lagos /ibadan expressway as the culprit that killed the late husband who was an Engineer with Julius berger to inherit all the properties.

This is a true st of what I witnessed in that house, as at last year, I was told that another tenant died and the house has been put up for sale, it seems the ghost of the landlord is on a fierce revenge mission sad

Contrary to what people believe, Nigeria is not as dangerous as we say on social media. If you carry yourself with care and cut out the showoff, you will enjoy yourself.

I have always taken my annual holiday in Nigeria since 2001 and i always enjoy it. Its the only place my spirit is at peace; being among my people and spending my money to help my home country's economy

Wire mesh don't prevent crack; that's the myth of the trade. They only help to hold the concrete together. Concrete expand when hot and contrast when cold irrespective of the wire mesh inside. It is this movement over time that causes crack. We've witnessed "decking" that cracks with all the rods inside if allowed to dry (cure) too quickly.
I'd be more circumspect typing this though... If you know about concrete and cracks, then you have to determine what type of cracks you're talking about. Nominal? Explanation will take a long write so I'll just say, reinforcements, including wire mesh/BRC, can prevent cracks.

So the question remains: why take revenge on innocent families? Or did the dead 9 people contributed to the death of the landlord?
