Extract of Interview: Chief Lateef Kayode Jakande, former Governor of Lagos State (1979-1983). Question: The metro line was frustrated. Would it have made any difference today, judging by the chaotic transportation situation in Lagos? Answer: Thank you. Metro line was one programme which I endeavoured to implement. Till today, I am saddened by the fact that the metro line was cancelled. You know, given the geography of Lagos, there is no alternative to metro line. Wheather this year, or next year, 10 years or 20 years, there must be metro line in Lagos State. The reason is that the landscape is limited. The programme was designed so that passengers could be carried on rails while the roads are free for other means of transportation. What pained me most was that the government of Gbolahan Mudasiru under the Buhari regime set up three different committees on the project and each of them recommended it. One of them recommended price reduction. But, they all believed it was possible. One even wondered how we had succeeded, so far. The cost of the metro line at that time, by our negotiation, was N700 million. The terms of agreement were advance payment by Lagos State government, 10 per cent, and the balance was to be paid by the French consortium, all the 19 companies. Ninety per cent of the cost was to be borrowed. We had actually determined the corridors and appointed a French General Manager. But, suddenly, Buhari, even against the wish of Lagos State government- cancelled the metro line. I have no doubt in my mind that metro line will come back, but at a terrible cost. In my view, Lagos has no choice. IPOB members were mowed down under a hail of bullets, I expected all Nigerians to condemn the killing of innocent people, no matter where they are from.

Nnamdi Kanu condemned the killings of Shia muslims and Zakzaky, we all have been screaming about the genocide in the Benue and middle belt.

Remember, nobody said sorry to Biafran people killed in the war, over 3 million of them, everyone keeps hating them today.

You are making a mistake which others made before. There can never be good government in Nigeria. The laws are twisted to favour a particular region and the process of electing a good leader is doomed with corruption, the constitution cannot fight corruption, GEJ said this, but was ignored because Igbos are in his cabinet, so he should go.

Nnamdi Kanu knows this, he is a genius and instead of fighting for good governance, he went to the root of course he problem, his insults are what woke everyone from sleep. Watch as Bakare will fail woefully with his protest, because he cannot get anyone's attention except the few big men. Nnamdi Kanu woke up every small poor man and created a movement which shook Africa, without spending a dime.
