[i]University of Ibadan 'First and Best' releases a outrageous school fees for its students, a federal University to be precise. Upon suspension of the Student Union Government of the school, the school management as made the students go through a lot since they have no organization/body in support of them. Could this be right! Average Nigerian earns 18k per month -okay.. The school fees was tagged at 19k -20k as at last year and accommodation fees tagged at 14k. Recently a new revised fees was released taking the accommodation fee from 14k to 30k and 40k for other halls, whereas the halls are still in a dilapidated state and the fees of most students in the College Of medicine rising to a huge some of 75k which include MBBS, BDS, MLS, Physiology, Biochemistry, Human Nutrition. What way is it for Nigeria? . Obviously I don't think its the same 13000-14000 students that would resume this coming session which would commence April 16th 2018. Please help channel this to relevant organization to come to our aid. Time would come when rich kids study medicine and not kids that actually merit or deserves it. cc Lasticlala Seun Osewa

uniport pays above 100k for freshers and 45k for returning students. Freshers in the department of Animal and Environmental Biology paid 118,500 this year so it's nothing new |

Elijahrona:The point is a federal school shouldn't ask that much for payment. Considering the financial state of most Nigerians it is cruel to set fees at amounts six to eight times higher than what the government set as average income for the citizens. UI case is even more worse, especially in the college of medicine. There is N75,000 increase in some departments and N100,000 increase in other departments. N16,000 increase in accommodation (we now pay N30,000 for accommodation) in some halls and N26,000 increase in another hall (they now pay N40,000 for accommodation) all of these in a sudden! Tell me how someone in the college of medicine who hasn't been paying fees anywhere near these new amounts won't drop out of the college, and I have friends in this position. Their reason for this is the lack of funds from the government to keep the school running. So this is a form of outreach to anyone in this position to come to our aid, because really, most of us can't survive this and it is disheartening. And I'm quite sure that nothing will really change if we even get to pay these new fees. Hostel life is terrible. In Nnamdi Azikwe Hall, you hardly find water to use. You have to walk to other halls to get water, and this happens in other halls too. Our rooms are heavily infested with bed bugs and has made sleeping miserable. Our windows are without nets and most are without louvers, too, and malarial has become a common illness. Electricity is not all that constant and we are being asked to pay more for this kind of service, a federal school. There is no account presented to show how these new fees are necessary to be introduced at this time. And in fact, accounts made show that these new fees, accommodation-wise, to my knowledge, are just not necessary. So if Iasticlala and Seun will be nice to help the awareness of this thread I'll appreciate. We are resuming soon and most of us have no hope to get along with this unnecessary change. |

There is nothing wrong with that school fees. Convert the 100k+ to dollars and compare with universities outside the country, even those that UI ranks higher than. Even in ordinary Ghana, the cheapest u can get $2000. 100k for medical education is laughable. We don't pay tax in this country yet the government subsidizes everything, that why when oil prices fall, primary school teachers are owed salaries, tell me, what's the connection between oil price and teachers salaries. But however, UI isn't all good in this one. When those students came into UI, school fees was 20k.They came in probably bcoz that's what they can afford. Therefore it is wrong for the school to suddenly hike up the fees. It will put unnecessary pressure on them. What they should have done, it to gradually phase out the old fees and gradually phase in the new fees, by making the new fees applicable to only those coming in this year, and thats what they'll pay till they graduate, the old students continue the old fees till they graduate. |

Elijahrona:Bros, hasn't that been what you've been paying normally? You can only talk if they increased that fee to about 300k all of a sudden. If not, please create space o |
