Is it really about monopoly? I don't think so. It's more about having a substitute & cheaper alternative to importing fuel. Its about conserving forex used for petrol importation. And it's about opening up opportunities in allied industries! Let's focus on the +ves
Why would you expect a businessman who is using his own money to care about all of the things you mention? Would you go into a new business with such things in your mind, or would you concentrate on getting the maximum return on your investment?

Dangote's entire fortune has been built on monopolies, and it's ridiculous to expect him to suddenly change his modus operandi and start acting as if he were running a charity: there must be a monopolistic angle to this new refinery that Dangote is counting on to more than recoup his investments.

According to Dangote, Yes, at a very reduced price! But I fear monopoly in this sector... Imagine one man controlling the price...
Have no fear cos that's the reality

Monopoly

Soon Dangote will buy Nigeria

Dangote is on his way to becoming richer than ever before

Eventhough I'm all for whatever makes our lives cheaper and better, and brings employment too

All that is for today, trust me the sort of monopoly this man would have is going to make slaves out of us all

Dangote is a great guy, but I feel he is our unpresidential President, who would never run for office, but relies on undue advantage from the government, foreign investors know this hence their hunger to tag along with him

We are viewing the making of the Nigerian, John Davidson Rockerfeller

God help us all

Don't mind him...

And you think refineries are built with a couple hundred million dollars??

Why do you think government owned refineries are moribund??

In theory that might have been the case, but in practice I'm betting that Dangote's behind-the-scenes lobbying of success Nigerian governments is one major reason why the petroleum sector still hasn't been deregulated. If Dangote thought it likely that he would be facing serious competition in refining, I hihgly doubt he'd have sunk $1 billion into this project, as fair competition on a level playing field has simply never been his style.

The level of corruption is the reason why Dangote has thrived!!! He is one of the beneficiaries of corruption.
At least he's investing in Nigeria and all over the world. Unlike these things calling themselves our leaders in elected offices.

Will it make fuel cheaper and more available when it's completed?
At least you can be sure of availability of the product, while conserving USD that can be channeled into other development projects in the country. This is in addition to providing employments to Nigerians and the accompanying value chains.

If every Nigerian beneficiary of corruption invests in viable industries and technologies like Dangote. We would become a fully industrialised nation.

What about other beneficiaries of corruption according to you. How much of investments do they have. The drivers of all the industrialized nations are people like Dangote. The billionaires drive every economy in the world. If those you call beneficiaries are can invest heavily, Nigeria will be far better today.
Although I feel you are just a hater.

The man is unafraid of making money in Naira. As a result, he's creating local jobs for Nigerians, unlike those idiots shipping our cash outside.

I'm just wondering why some people are just saying monopoly monopoly! Monopoly is bound to happen where there are no competitors and the government doesnt seem ready to make government refineries work which can be an alternative to dangotes refinery. Dangote isn't running a charity organisation!!!

Are you a Nigerian? Haven't you heard of bans on import? This is monopoly brewing and if the price of cement couldn't be reduced by Dangote, how can we expect a reduction in the prices of petroleum products?

if you think that this will mean cheaper petrol, you are dull.

It means your petrol price is now tied in the hands of one man. He will blame the underlying cost factors why cost of petrol is high.
He will give excuses from Vandalism pipelines to Insurgency, to other crazy things just to justify petrol price or lack of forex to maintain equipments.

Doesn't Dangote produce cement? Is cement cheap in Nigeria, or don't you know that importing cement is cheaper than Dangote cement?

Nna calm down o, For now all the gains are just on paper , when action starts you will hear another thing. no be Naija we dey again.

if you are wise you will see that dangote is about to be the The sole dictator of 9ja Inflation rates.

With all grin these, one would never see Dangote or wealthy Northerners from Kano brag about their investments (in billions)in the other parts of the country.

Meanwhile, ordinary gala hawkers and spare part dealers in 2*2 shops will be foaming in the mouths of how they are the richest.

Indeed, only empty barrels make the loudest noise.
Hahahahahaha. See finishing. If I say I, you say POB, omo na you sabi o. grin grin grin

Let’s not forget, there are more gold mines in the north than oil wells in south south.

Let’s ask ourselves the question.

You are shouting Monopoly. Do you know how many Nigerians that Dangote employs? If you are importing cement, all those factory jobs will be none existent.
