The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai, has revealed how the $1billion approved by President Muhammadu Buhari for the purchase of military equipment will be used.

Addressing journalists on Thursday at the Second Nigerian Army Procurement Seminar in Abuja, Buratai said the money will be utilised judiciously.

Recall that Buhari had approved the fund during a meeting with the Minister of Defence, Brigadier General Mansur Dan-Ali (rtd), and the service chiefs at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The Army chief was optimistic that the money would boost the efforts of the military in the war against insurgency in the North East and other security issues affecting the country.

According to Buratai, “Our capability is increased in terms of the platforms that would be procured, in terms of the further training that would be carried out.

“Once this equipment is procured, it means further consolidating on other areas where there are challenges so that the troops will be able to use this equipment and operate very efficiently to be able to defeat all those criminals.”

After funding Boko Haram in the disguise of negotiating the freedom of Chibok and Dapchi girls, now you want to use $1bn to procure more weapons for them.


Nigerian Army buy weapons, take the weapons to the north, put less than 10 soldiers to guard them(weapons) then give intels to Boko Haram on how to run a siege on the soldiers.
I pity the soldiers they will send to transport and guard the weapons.

Has anybody notice that the so call $1 billion ECA money (Funds that belong to both Local govt, States and Federal govt) which was originally billed to be funds to fight boko haram as confirmed Nigerian Govs Forum, in their haste to justify the amount and its approval has been changed to Military equipment? Military equipment for what? Why will govt use funds meant for the three tiers of govt to by military hardwares?
