There are generators that come on, the moment power is interrupted.

If they can afford 45 million as prize money, getting that type of generator should not be hard.

Besides, it is supposed to be a Nigerian reality show. Interruption in power is part of the Nigerian reality.

Anything else is fake.

Nigeria that in my area we have not seen Nepa light for 2 weeks and almost every month its the same.

Then imagine if its in a period of fuel scarcity.

Nigeria for now is fvcked to host such a show coz there wud be too much black out and unnecessary cost.

Making the show look unprofessional.

Secondly if it was held in Nigeria it wont be fun, as the Housemates wont be able to get the huge welcome home receptiom they normally get once they touch down Nigeria.

Put the prize money at 2-5 million and I am fine.

Dedicating 45 million to that show is a slap on our collective faces.

Do you know that mtn has many masts scattered round the country that are generator powered? Do you think bbn runs on a #30000 budget to be crying about power? Once again, a South African business is hurling insults in our faces by making a hell of money from nigeria with close to none of it coming to nigeria and here we are applauding and encouraging them and tomorrow we will be crying 'government does not care' as if we do.

It seems like some people are not aware that Big Brother Nigeria has been held in Nigeria before.

The first edition of Big Brother Nigeria (2006) was held in Lagos. The Big Brother house was in Ikeja. It went on smoothly despite a few challenges.

The major challenges they had were: -

1) They once had to delay a live show by an hour because of a humongous thunderstorm in Lagos (the live shows were held outdoors).

2) The massive traffic jams on Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way.

3) There was strict censorship. There was absolutely no nudity on the show. I remember when Ify started taking her clothes off and the camera immediately panned away from her.

4) There was a night when the live feed was cut for an hour or two (some people speculated that there was a power outage).

Mikano generators was one of the sponsors of that year's edition of the show.

Do you honestly think providing your own infrastructure (i.e. electricity and security) is normal? For your information, telecomms companies have been sharing masts to save cost for some years now; they have been selling their masts to Helios and renting same back to cut costs.

Youh only spoke for yourself, 2-5 million Naira is nothing in the present economy. Money breeds money, if they hadn't set the prize high they wouldn't have been very popular and the popularity results to more money

The first BB Naija (with Ebuka and co) held in Nigeria - Ikeja G.R.A, and it was expensive as hell. I know this, cos my friend's uncle was on the show's production.

Think about it. You have to run generators for 85 days, hire mopol (cos robbers fit show) for 85 days, bring in an entire production crew from outside Nigeria (+ equipment), pay them premium (cos abroad work), lodge and feed them in a fantastic hotel for 85 days, find a house without high-rise neighbours (almost impossible to find in Lagos), and do extensive renovations still. Mid-point, LASAA, LIRS, Local Government officials etc. would show at your set to ask for one settlement or the other - and not to forget over-zealous lawyers looking to shake you down for cash would be filing stupid injunctions and suits. Some Nigerian politicians for the sake of grand-standing could even sabotage you mid-point. Need I also mention, that in the case of disputes, you do not want to go to our sluggish, and ridiculously corrupt courts.

In the end, it would be nigh impossible to break even.

Do you think if using Nigeria was easy, the producers would willingly bear the cost of flying house-mates, artists, and guests every week?

It's not within his purview. He is not the director general of the NBC.

Besides, if you ignore the headline and read his words, you'll discover that he didn't say that it must hold in Nigeria. He said that it should be held in Nigeria. Basically, he was just stating his own personal opinion and preference.

There's no law that states that it must be held in Nigeria

Do you think this Big Brother Naija is contributing significantly to South Africa’s economy? Yes, it's provides employment for very few people, they buy some foodstuffs and groceries from there.... I can't think of any other thing.
It contributes to Nigeria economy by promoting its businesses, like Payporte which also helps others businesses like fashion designers. Toyin lawani made a dress for ceeci, and the dress was put on the payporte, costing more than 100k, and the dress sold out. Same happened during Tboss time.

The money gotten from voting should be going to the sponsors abi? And the sponsors are Nigerians. So isn't Nigeria the major benefactor from the show?

O, ok. My view is quite simple. It's not government's job to tell the producers of the show where the show should be held.

The best that the government can do is to address the challenges associated with hosting the show in Nigeria (you'll see the challenges in my post about Big Brother Nigeria 2006 - electricity, traffic, regulatory challenges, etc). That might entice the producers to stage the show in Nigeria.

The worst that the government can do is to reclassify the show as "foreign content" as they threatened to do last year. Pay TV stations in Nigeria are required to show 20% local content.

But it's not the government's job to dictate the location of the show to the producers.

i understand your points point blank, but maybe because of the chaos in the country, we have all loss the sense of national pride, it is a very shameful thing, all countries have different challenges, all those cost you put up there are very insignificant to a country that once hosted fifa u17, fifa u20,festac,etc, you cant tell me nigeria can not host a group of 20 people in a house for 3 months, have you heared any other african country hosting their big brother outside their country? i know most of the sponsors are private companies and can decide what they want for the programme but they are using nigeria's name for christ sake , if they cant host it with the current settings in nigeria, it is better they dump it.

Though I did not read the post because I am not wearing my glasses presently but I sincerely believe I know the landlord of the house who rape and save the girl from dying of konji and that he stands to be burnt alive for his manhood to live for the women including ex-first lady patience Jonathan as in such goodwill are rare. So if the DPO can just arrest the girl and assess her private organs diligently, you will definitely agree with me that the suffering in Nigeria is responsible for this.

' Bring in an entire production crew from outside Nigeria'? Are you kidding me? Is that necessary? And about LIRS etc, bbn must pay everything they ought to pay as revenue to their host country, it's normal.
