The very first picture of Auschwitz Concentration Camp - taken by a Mosquito plane from 60 Photo Recon Squadron of the South African Air Force out of Foggia base in Southern Italy in 1944.

Claim to fame.

My grandfather took that exact photo - he was the navigator whos side job was to climb into the nose of the plane and take photos. Honest to god, swear on a stack of bibles.

It was one of his 2 wartime stories. The first was about dipping a coin into some magma from a volcano that had erupted in italy,second was about this photo. I was skeptical about the coin, but the Auschwitz story is legit. After he died my granny went and got his log-book and war-diary published and lo-and-behold neatly written down in the log is a flight over Auschwitz and a complaint in his diary about having to do recces in Poland, which was a much longer and much more dangerous flight than their usual ones over the balkans.

I would post his name, but you would then be able to find mine.

Fun fact, the exact Mosquito he flew on that tour is the one hanging in the military history mesueum in Saxonwold... which is literally two blocks from my house. Fvcking crazy isnt it?

My great grandfather was with a ship that survived a Nazi U-boat in the English Channel. Do you know how they made it? Apparently the ship also contained Swazi recruits who had been given a magic stick by the Swazi king to bail them out when the ish hits the fan. At the encounter, they pointed the stick on the side of the ship and the U-boat fell for it and took that direction, the Brits recorded the story but it's hidden somewhere in the Vatican archives, the world wasn't ready to know that magic stick from Kuvukiland that could sink modern navies.

Oh yeah, the guy who was given that magic stick was called Mdzabedze which translates to "Long Story". I'm not even kidding you.

A simple this is wrong or that is right would have cleared whatever mistake was posted. Nobody has control over all the knowledge in the world.

It's especially true in situations were an ignorant person is comfortable pointing fingers and inferring another as ignorant.
