Euouae:Have you been to the rural areas and hinterland where the roads are bad, or non-existent - and health care centres are far from the community? You would thank God for any sort of medical help that comes your way, if you ever fall sick in one of those communities. It doesn't matter if such medical assistance comes via a tricycle ambulance, or not! |

laudate:Safety of the patient like I pointed out, you have not addressed. The communities you talking about have standard hospitals kilometers away from them which this tricycles will be forced to ply roads they are not fit to ply putting the lifes of all occupants in danger. I have been opportune to work in few central African countries where Toyota Land Cruiser (HARD-BODY), plays such vital role. Its just about putting more into health-care and not sub-standard medical Hardware's that put peoples life in danger. Moreover, available space within is not sufficient for emergency operations if need be. https://www.toyotakenya.com/images/1.jpg |

Euouae:Oga/madam, if you had a friend, relative or patient who needed to get to a hospital quickly, and the only mode of transport available was a tricycle ambulance, would you ignore the tricycle and leave the patient to remain suffering on the same spot, where he is? https://image.made-in-china.com/43f34j10OygaIWmAQkbj/Lifan-150cc-Engine-of-Three-Wh.jpg https://www.chinaino.com/uploadfile/uppic/20130515213000339.jpg |

laudate:What is bad is bad. You wouldn't also want to hear that the ambulance had an accident. The vehicle is not safe. Thats my point. It can be physically seen. The height of the ambulance alone with relation to its center of gravity alone tells you alot that its just a mobile coffin and not an ambulance. |

You are missing the point. The said standard hospital hospitals also have standard ambulance. Here we are talking of availability. I don't see anything wrong with these three wheeler ambulance in as much as it is readily available to provide immediate medical care for the patient or victim until the arrival of standard ambulance. Ambulance is not only for transportation but also to provide first aid. Euouae: |

Euouae:Oga/Madam, there is NO vehicle that is not capable of having an accident. No vehicle is accident-proof. A lot depends on the state of the road, the skill & reflexes of the driver, as well as the kind of obstacles encountered on such a road. In Nigeria and most developing countries, ambulancies that come in the shape of Land cruisers and buses, are in short supply. People have to make do with what they can find. I did youth corps in a remote community where the only means of transport were motorcycles, and rickety wooden canoes. I will not bore you about the rate of maternal mortality in that community, or how many lives were lost, due to lack of adequate medical care. The nearest health centre was about 12-15 km away, and normal cars were unable to ply the road, as it had broken down. If tricycle ambulances had been available to such a community at that time, it would have helped save more lives. |

laudate:I still find it difficult that you still just dont want to accept the glaring fact that the ambulances are not safe. If deploring a tricycle to a village with untarred roads looks okay to you and good, I respect your opinion. But by standard, It is rubbish especially being a government initiative. If you really meant "remote village", do you think those tricycle can rough that road? Cos I also did youth service in a remote village and do what the terrain looks like. Stop applauding quantity. |

Euouae:Oga/Madam, in a community where the only means of getting a sick person to hospital is either on foot or by motorcycle, these tricycle ambulances would do the job. I asked you a question earlier, and I am still waiting for your response: "Oga/madam, if you had a friend, relative or patient who needed to get to a hospital quickly, and the only mode of transport available was a tricycle ambulance, would you ignore the tricycle and leave the patient to suffer on the spot where he is?" You can either phone a friend, or ask the audience for the answer....! |

laudate:Whatever institution can make the tricycle available can also make a better ambulance available. And moreover, what will be the excuse when a tricycle is available but cant ply the road due to weather conditions or terrain? Its a substandard initiative and that you "MUST" agree with me. Responding to emergency's rapidly entails a lot a safety precautions, pace and standard hardware's, and needs not to be cheaply managed. If the tricycle is the only & best option in your opinion, you have a right to it. But when analyzed down the line, I repeat, its substandard. You talking about peoples life here. |

Euouae:And saving people's lives means getting them quickly to the hospital, using the easiest and available mode of transportation that is at hand. You have not worked in remote communities within Nigeria for any length of time, that is why you are speaking so much grammar. A highly respected doctor that I know, once had to conduct an emergency cesarean operation for a woman in labour, using a kerosene lantern, while she was placed on a makeshift bench in a village. He could not wait for "lot a safety precautions, pace and standard hardware's." Mother and baby survived, thankfully. The doctor's car had broken down in that village, while he was on a trip to a different state. It would have taken another 4-5 hours to get the pregnant woman to a hospital, and only goodness knows what could have happened. Sometimes, people just have to make do with what they have.In India, Bangladesh and several Asian countries, such tricycle ambulances are common. And can I remind you of how Nigerians troop to that same India, in search of medical solutions? ![]() |
