UCH Ibadan Gets 2 Ambulances For Geriatric Centre

Prof. Temitope Alonge, Chief Medical Director (CMD), University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, on Monday inaugurated two new wheel-chair ambulances for use at the Tony Anenih Geriatric Centre, in the hospital.

Inaugurating the ambulances, Alonge said that they would go a long way in complementing care of the aged at the geriatric centre.

These two ambulances would complement the two tricycles which had been in used in commuting patients from the centre to and from the main gate to ease their transportation.

“They would also be used to pick up patients whose wards could not afford to bring their parents to the clinic at UCH at designated pick-up points in Ibadan,” he said.

The CMD further said that each ambulance, which costs N10 million, has capacity to seat 16 and 10 patients, respectively.

He said both ambulances have hydrolic facilities to lift patients in wheel chairs from the ground into the vehicle.

Alonge was full of appreciation to the donor, Chief Tony Anenih, whom he described as an ‘addicted giver’.

Gov. Willie Obiano of Anambra on Thursday said he would provide 543 tricycle ambulances to 543 Primary Healthcare Centres in the state.
The governor said this while handing over cheques in support of mission hospitals at the Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre, Awka.
Obiano said the tricycle ambulances would help improve primary healthcare services, especially during emergencies in the hard-to-reach areas of the state.
“The ambulances will assist in emergencies and this is part of my commitment towards the provision of quality healthcare services in Anambra,’’ he said.
The governor said he would also construct nurses’ quarters in government owned primary healthcare centres.
Obiano said that his administration was working on 63 health Centres in parts of the state, which according to him, are at various stages of completion.
Obiano said provision of infrastructures in health sector was not limited to just physical buildings.
“We will supply medical equipments, functional operational vehicles, conducive and clean environment to enhance efficient and smooth operations generally,” he said.
He said the state government would soon commence payment of allowances to nurses working in remote areas to further motivate them.

It is better to have first aid kit to save lives than to wait for air ambulance that never comes.

It is better to have well equipped three wheeler ambulance positioned at every two kilometres of our highways and for our villages than to have one ambulance for each local government. Ambulance is for emergency. Many deaths are recorded because of the delay in emergency response team arriving the scene. There is no medical equipment in luxurious ambulance that three wheeler can't carry. If you have been to scene of accident you will notice that having plaster can even save one from bleeding to death.

I agree with most of your points, except for the last one. undecided Having plaster cannot save anyone from bleeding to death. If blood loss is substantial, it means a vein has been cut or an artery has been ruptured, or there is severe internal damage. Only well placed sutures, or an emergency surgery to stop the flow of blood and correct the problem, can save a patient from bleeding to death.

Who have the time to wait for an ambulance in Nigeria?

Rubbish, taking this serious at ur own peril..

Me don't have time to be waiting for an ambulance that might never be coming, just enter road and beckon on the available bikeman or keke.. Zoom to the hospital..

The same with nigeria forces, no quick respond....

Smh for the money wasted..

Some states in Nigeria doesn't have PHCs, those that have primary health centers is Nigeria doesnt have wheelbarrow not to talk of tricycle, states that can afford it for their PHCs should be applauded, it will safe lives in rural areas, for example a patient who need urgent care went to primary health center in his/her community, and the Phc refer him/her to general hospital/ specialist or teaching hospital, if the community phc have tricycle ambulance, it will be very easy to convey the patient to the hospital they referred him/her.

Useless bigot trying to justify mediocrity. When did Ondo become a standard for Anambra. Imagine carrying your billionaires with keke napep to hospitals. grin grin

The bitter truth remains that tricycles being used as ambulance makes no sense with regards to our terrain. Considering the safety of the patient and other occupants, and the location of standard hospitals.

Don't mind the OP. Defending rubbish.

Let him provide his pregnant wife to enjoy a ride on the 'tricycle ambulance'

A private hospital I know has 30 ambulances it rents out, yet an entire state chooses to provide glorified motorcycles

This is the most ridiculous attempt at justifying failure that I have ever seen. But I will not attempt to oppose your opinion.

Now that you're done, you could as well explain why the governor had his picture on the tricycles. Or does WHO also support that?
