When abokis and sectional employment of staff from the north full there, why won't it get ruined. Nigeria never employ the best brain but put there family members there. Go to FAAN. u see many abokis occupying many post.
CUT THAT CRAP! angry When Nigeria Airways was still operational, it employed people from different ethnic groups. For a number of years, the Director of Finance was from the SE region, even when the MD was from the North and the Director of Operations was a Niger-delta man. The Head of Sales was also from a different tribe. So what are you saying? undecided All tribes are responsible for its' demise!

Not true ! Billy Eko was second to Capt. Ore.

Capt. Ore was Nigeria's finest. He was the captain of Nigeria's boeing 747 to New York. Capt. Billy Eko was merely his co-pilot. In fact, Billy Eko tried to implicate Capt. Ore in his hard drug runs by giving him one of his bags to hold and having Capt. Ore's finger print on the bag. but luckily, Ore was acquitted though he was later dismissed by the Nigerian Airways.
Nigeria Airways had several fine pilots. They included pilots like Capt Bob Hayes, Rufus Orimoloye, Samuel Obioma, Paul Thahal, Bara Allwell-Brown, Akintaju, the late Olubunmi Oke, Nnachi, Osakwe, Dele Ore, Joe Ibrahim, Ado Dahiru, Tunde Amusa, Olu Olumogba, Fola Akinkuotu, Bayo Sanyaolu, Tanko Afegbua, Don Chukwura etc. The airline had female pilots too, I think. undecided

We all want progress but turn our backs when it comes to choosing someone and cooperating for that progress to take place

From the names above, someone up there said it was killed my d northerners, why another person argued that all tribe was responsible for the Nigeria Airways dismal.
Why is it that we Nigerians are always sentiment, always bringing tribalism, religion & politics in every matter of discussion. its too bad for us, if this country will move forward we have to think as ONE NIGERIA.

After NA’s demise, see what both the flight and her former employees (pensioners) have been reduced to sad

Second pic depicts NA pensioners protesting for their entitlements....
I thought that Buhari promised to stop using the presidential jets and transfer them to revive the Nigeria Airwayshuh

Buhari has been fighting corruption for the past three years. By now he must have declared technical victory over it just as he did over Boko Haram terrorists.
Why has Nigeria Airways not resuscitated after Buhari’s technical defeat of corruption huh?

Great post!... It brings back memories for
me flying onboard my first Nigeria Airways
aircraft in the 1970s through to the 1990s.
From the Fokker-27, DC-10, Airbus A-310...
and more!

Captain John Billy-Eko is late now, but he
was one of the iconic Nigeria Airways pilots
who flew the Boeing 747. He flew the only
operational Nigeria Airways Boeing 747
to Newyork in 1987 and got arrested for
smuggling hard drugs at the JFK Airport.
Captain J. Billy-Eko was originally a
Ghanaian. The media was abuzz in 1987
with stories about him and his picture of his
car that was parked at the MMIA car park was
published on the front page of some major
newspapers.

Captain Billy-Eko was one of the best
Boeing 747 pilots on earth.

Nigeria Airways... Truly Iconic! grin
what made him iconic if I may ask ..... being a drug pusher is an iconic thing to do ?

I miss Nigeria Airways. Their signature Jollof Rice and Beef or Chicken serving was unforgettable. It turned many a foreigner into a lover of the national dish.

Nigeria Airways flew everywhere - Accra, Nairobi, Johannesburg, London, Paris, New York, Berlin, Cairo, Jeddah, Amsterdam, Milan, Zurich, Kampala. Everywhere.

Bro you are kinda wrong .....

1. The best and most profitable airline in Africa is Ethiopian and its not on your list.

2. Ghana does not have any national airline again like Nigeria, make una do small research biko. What killed Nigerian airways is what killed Ghana airways and its a shame.

True. Ghana Airways went through the same thing as Nigeria Airways, and collapsed in debt.

That was the time of Pilot Tunde Amusa piloting the flight from Murtala Muhammad Airport to JFK Airport. Good old days indeed. Hopefully, Nigeria will get her groove back.

Nigeria Airways... Truly Iconic! grin
Yeah. Knew him when I was a kid. He and my dad were friends. Took us once on a guided tour when he was around. The last Nigerian Airways flight I took was Jos - Lagos sometime 88 or 89. Flight was for 8.30 am. Didn't arrive until 7.30pm. The flight was lousy, the aircrew looking disheveled, the food stale and the seats smelly. We then had to land at MMIA because local had closed. Took us another hour to get through customs. By the time I arrived home it was quarter to one in the morning. I was relieved but absolutely done with Nigerian Airways and air travel in general. Tilll today the bulk of my trips are by road.

Nigeria is just not ripe enough for the emergence of a genuine airline industry. All those desires and dreams one had as a boy are properly trashed by the realities ov this decaying country.

That was when Nigeria was a country. I once flew to Benin using Nigeria airways in late 80s. Right now the pensioners have not been paid since 2007. Heard their payment was held by minister of finance kemi adeosun. May of the workers have died waiting for their money. Till now they have not been paid nothing. Only God will judge our wicked leaders
Oh yes.

She held it since 2007.
