Diverse opinions have greeted news about the suspension of Senator representing Delta Central Senatorial district, Ovie Omo-Agege for 90 legislative days by the Nigerian Senate last Thursday.

The Senator, a member of the ruling APC, was reportedly suspended for championing the opposition to the National Assembly's elections reordering bill and the subsequent court case he instituted in court to avoid being punished. Who does that in a true democratic dispensation?

Some of the opinions expressed over the suspension have been constructive, some objective while some are fit only as beer parlour discussion and opinions.

Senate President, Bukola Saraki, while taking his time to explain the decision of the Senate on the issue last Thursday, emphasized the need for Senators to respect and preserve the INTEGRITY of the Senate.

It was quite obvious that Senator Omo-Agege was laying a very bad precedence in the Senate, through his latest actions especially as it bothers on the elections reordering bill and subsequent institution of a court case to evade attempt by the Senate to wiled its big stick that has been used on erring members in the past. He was becoming a divisive element, which if not quickly nipped in the bud could lay a terrible foundation in the Senate and a reference point of rebellion, destabilization and division.

When an institution loses integrity in whatever it does, respect also diminishes and such institution becomes only a carcass, a paper tiger, with no power to take action when and where necessary. This is what the politically discerned believe the Senate was trying to avoid with the suspension of Omo-Agege. A good step in the right direction.

More so, any house that rises against itself will not stand, it will fall like a pack of cards, the Bible was explicit on this.

From the actions of Omo-Agege and his gang, it is obvious that their opposition to the election reordering bill and the court case instituted by Omo-Agege himself are all orchestrated plan to curry the favour of the Presidency. Probably they are doing all to get party's ticket on a platter of gold or for soft landing at the primary, who knows? Only them and time can tell.

Meanwhile, the action and desperation of some Parliamentarians in search of favour from the Executive must not and should never be allowed to be the harbinger that would make the hallowed chamber lose its sanctity, respect and integrity.

While we are not arguing that the National Assembly should always stand as an opposition to the Executive arm even when the Executive mean well, there is a need for checks and balances, the Nigerian political system have long grown beyond the era when the Senate used to be an appendage of the Executive and we cannot afford to go back to that era. It is dangerous for our present democracy and the future of our democracy.

That is why many of us who do not belong to the same political party with the Senate President will always commend his patriotism at any given time.

At several occasions, Saraki has genuinely displayed that loyalty to the country and the constitution shouldn't be sacrificed at the altar of loyalty to the party. Party may die tomorrow, but country will always remain.
Since Nigeria gained Independence in 1960, the country has had several political parties, with many dying naturally after some time, while the country remains. So political gladiators must always watch their actions and not allow personal interest override national interest that may plunder the nation into chaos.

Party will go, country remains. This should be the watchword for political office holders.
Only if they put this on the tablet of their hearts as they take on public offices, the nation would be fairing better.

For any institution to thrive and achieve its set goals, there must be discipline and this is what the Senate displayed last Thursday with the suspension of Omo-Agege. There must be high level of integrity on which respect can be commanded, which will on the long run save the institution from being a carcass.

The Senate has set a good standard for the future, it must be commended for its leniency in handling the matter by limiting the suspension to 90-days.

Senate President Saraki Is a Tyrant. The Senate Deserve The Hoodlum Attack

Senate President Bukola Saraki has been operating like a tyrant and a dictator. Senators are given mandate by their constituencies and not by the senate president or senate committee on ethics. Senators are suppose to be opinion shapers.

Under Saraki, most of the senators have been reduced to puppet of the senate president. The freedom of speech, freedom to agree and disagree of the senators are under constant attack by Saraki dictatorial tendencies. The senate is suppose to be a place of diverse opinion. But Saraki want to turn the senate to a single opinion chamber who rubber stamp everything at his will.

Any senator who disagree with Bukola Saraki is either suspended or removed from his committee position. He is running the senate like a thug or an emperor. Saraki need to be publicly disgraced.

Courts have already ruled in the past that legislature cannot suspend members who are voted in by their constituents. In the case of House of Assembly vs Hon Danna, the Court of Appeal held that a legislative house in Nigeria is not competent to suspend a member even for a single day as it is a violation of the democratic rights of members of his/her constituency. Yet Saraki with his tyrannical attitude and lack of respect for rule of law, have continue to suspend senators with total disregard of the law of the land.

I follow united state senate and congress, US senators openly attack, disagree and question the senate and house leadership . They write articles against senate and congress leaders. They grant interview criticising the senate and house leaders. I have never see a case where they are suspended because of that. Even in the UK where the Prime minister is the head of parliament and the head of govt, member of parliaments openly oppose, criticise and attack the prime ministers. Members of parliament dont get suspended for that.

Try and watch UK parliament on BBC, members of parliaments oppose and shout even when the leader of parliament is speaking. Member of parliament hold media conferences and oppose the leader of parliament. Why is Saraki against any opposition in the senate? Why is he suspending any opposition voice to his position? is the senate his personal property?

Saraki need to be cut to size. You cannot just suspend a senator who was voted in by thousand /millions of its constituent. What the senate president is doing is a coup against Nigeria democracy.

Civil organisations need to protest and demand the sack of Saraki as senate president. He is too power drunk. He is bringing disgrace to the Nigeria senate.

A senate president is like a class prefect. He is the head among equals. He should stop acting like one emperor.

The youth, men and women of delta state should storm the senate and ensure no plenary can hold until Senator Omo Agege is allowed to seat. The senate has no power to deny any part of delta state fair representation.

Saraki has become a monster because Buhari dont believe in bribing senators with money. Because Buhari is not sharing money and Ghana must go like the senators are used to in the past, the senators have become a slave to saraki because he controls the payment of thier excessive running cost.

Saraki and his lapdogs make any form of opposition a sin which is immediately followed by suspension.

The constituency of the senator therefore has no representative for 6 months in some cases.

And you type all the hogwash to promote such high-handedness and dictatorial tendencies.

I trust, those who prefer for the nation to be at peril would jump on this again.

They never want peace, love the status quo which has never worked and openly support bandits and undemocratic solutions.

Would not be surprising if this whole caper was orchestrated by Saraki anyways.

I did not even bother to read 50% of the long story. I know, It is a sponsored article. One day, I know one day, the military will sponsor a guerrilla attack on the Senate with the way & manner they think they can harrass anybody & go away with it . The manner of invitation of Service Chiefs, the humiliation of the Custom CG & various other arrogance & corrupt behaviors hiding under rule of law.

The American Senate does not behave this way. Is the Senate is higher than constitution? Corrupt Senate, the president & his deputy participated in the sharing of the looting of GEJ era acquiring properties everywhere.

It is quite disturbing that Senator OMO-AGEGE aka OMO-AJEGUNLE is finding business at the senate NOT FUNNY!

Maybe he was better off being a governor of the rich Niger delta state of DELTA STATE than a senator. But he could not be a governor after series of failed trial.

But there were senator before him who had it easy at the house.

Yes, senators from Delta state like himself and there was no trouble with members. They just prefer to keep quiet and just enjoyed their cool cash without any controversy.

Senators like, James Manager, Ighoyota Amori, Aguavwriawodo etc But this senators never created any impact on the development of legislative laws and they were never useful to their constituency like Omo-Agege.

BUT SENATOR OVIE OMO-AGEGE IS ONE OF THE FINEST SENATOR TO COME OUT OF THE NIGER DELTA. He is learned like his late father who was a chief judge. Also, since Omo-Agege joined the senate he had made some useful impact culminating in some progressive bills like the one stipulating punishment for lecturers who solicit for non consentual sex etc.

SARAKI AND HIS CALBALS SHOULD GIVE PEACE A CHANCE AND PANDON SENATOR OMO-AGEGE AKA OMO-AJEGUNLE

AS A SEASONED LAWYER CUM POLITICIAN SENATOR OMO-AGEGE IS VERY USEFUL TO THE PROGRESS OF THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY, NIGERIA AND DELTA STATE THAT HE REPRESENT.

Senate President Saraki Is a Tyrant. Senate Deserve The Hoodlum Attack

Senate President Bukola Saraki has been operating like a tyrant and a dictator. Senators are given mandated by their constituencies and not by the senate president or senate committee on ethics. Senators are suppose to be opinion shapers.

Under Saraki, most of the senators have been intimidated by the senate president. The freedom of speech, freedom to agree and disagree of the senators are under attack. The senate is suppose to be a place of diverse opinion. But Saraki want to turn the senate to a single opinion chamber.

Any senator who disagree with Bukola Saraki is either suspended or removed from his committee position. He is running the senate like a thug or an emperor.

I follow united state senate and congress, US senators openly attack, disagree and question the senate and house leadership . The write articles against senate and congress leaders. They grant interview criticising the senate and house leaders. I have never see a case where they are suspended because of that. Even in the UK where the Prime minister is the head of parliament is still the head of govt, member of parliaments openly oppose, criticise and attack the prime ministers. member dont get suspended for that.

Try and watch UK parliament on BBC, members of parliaments oppose and shout even when the leader of parliament is speaking. Member of parliament hold media conferences and oppose the leader of parliament. Why is Saraki against any opposition in the senate? Why is he suspending any opposition voice to his position?

Saraki need to be cut to serve. You cannot just suspend a senator who was voted in by thousand /millions of it's constituent. What the senate president is found is a coup against Nigeria democracy.

Civil organisations need to protest and demand the sack of Saraki as senate president. He is too power drunk. He is bringing disgrace to the Nigerian senate.

A senate president is like a Class prefect. He is the head among equals. He should stop acting like one emperor.

The youth, men and woman of delta state should storm the senate and ensure no plenary can hold until Senator Omo Agege is allowed to seat. The senate has no power to deny any part of delta state fair representation.

Saraki has become a monster because Buhari dont believe in bribing senators with money. Because Buhari is not sharing money and Ghana must go, the senators have become a slave to saraki because he controls the payment of thier excessive running cost.

Get a life ..everybody is tired of you zombies and your Buhari
