I don't seem to understand your line of thought...

I'm talking of Ahmed Makarfi and you are talking of Obasanjo administration. What is the correlation? Even Obasanjo is no longer a PDP member...

Good luck on your wasted vote for Sowore
then respect his opinion.

PDP did not fail, the administration as at then should answer that.

Nobody used Bush's failings to blame Trump when he was Republican candidate neither did people use Obama's success to praise Clinton.

Tonye na wah ooo, so out of over 200 million Nigerians, only makarfi is qualified? At your age, all the leaders you have today were already in power, to think that the youths of Nigeria haven't woken up is embarrassing.

Markafi is at least not a bigot, I believe PDP should have made a complete restructure of their manifesto and really rebrand itself such that those who get to power must be compelled to employ technocrats and generally have only the right direction

Imo, the PDP's top chances are Atiku and Sule Lamido.
Atiku is a former Vice President that has remained active in Nigeria's politics and so is very well known by Nigerians in the North and South. He's probably the 2nd most popular member of the PDP nationally after GEJ.
He's not so famous among conservative northerners though as he's seen to be liberal but he's also the PDP's most popular candidate in the south as of now
He has the money to effectively run a campaign but his perception of being corrupt alongside the PDP's perception of being corrupt might be a big problem

What with these arbitrary conservatism and liberalism reference.

TonyeBarcanista:

He twice defeated Buhari's candidate in 2003 and 2007 even when Kwankwaso fell to Buhari hammer during the time. Outside Kaduna, he enjoys WIDE acceptance in the north and that was what prompted PDP to select him as Chairman in May 21, 2016 even when he never lobbied for it but was prevailed upon.

In Kaduna state nobody is as popular as Makarfi... Even APC loyalists and Buharists love him.

He lost in 2015 to Hunkuyi because people were tired of Yero and Jonathan coupled with the animosity against PDP as at then.

Don't forget that as Governor he defeated the same Hunkuyi backed by Buhari in 2003 even when Buhari swept Kaduna state in the Presidential election result of KD.

Kaduna has Zone 1, 2 and 3, Makarfi is HIGHLY popular in all zones.

My Teacher once told me that there is difference between sound and noise.

In every election, the acceptability of the candidate is key. Makarfi is highly popular in the south for GOOD REASONS and well sellable.

It isn't by rouble rousing... As for what he stands for, his antecedents speaks highly of him.

Oga if na money trust me APC wouldn't have won 2015 election, neither will Atiku lose to Buhari and Kwankwaso for APC ticket in 2015.
Who spend money pass PDP in 2015?

Money is necessary to prosecute election but it doesn't win election.

Meanwhile, Makarfi is not a poor man, neither is PDP too poor to prosecute an election.
Kaduna is just one state out of the 19 northern states. Trust me, Atiku is PDP's best bet in 2019 cos is a complete nationalist

You people are here again.. That was how they packaged Buhari for us.. Emmanuel Macron of France is just 40 years old and also Barack Obama was just 47 in 2008 when he became President.. To me, he has had his own share of the national cake..@61 ,he has nothing to offer.. for being a Governor two tenure and served as a Senator and also PDP member..You are telling us he did this and that, that we never heard of it..Abeg, park well with your Papa. Please, let him just retire and continue spending all those looted funds he shared with those lawmakers...See, I believe someone younger would do this Omoyele Sowore (Sahara Reporter) is just 47, Fela Durotoye is 46 and you are trying to sell one person Papa to me again...Am not campaigning for anyone but I believe we need fresh brain..#God bless Nigeria

No doubt, Makarfi had a decent record as Kaduna governor, and to some extent, is cosmopolitan but those two alone do not win elections.

To defeat Buhari, you need a candidate who can hold and mobilize maximum votes in SS/SE, win on aggregate either SW or NC, and utterly competitive in NE/NW. Nigeria's configuration is such that the more concession a candidate gives to SE, the less competitive one becomes in SW, and vice versa. And the more one gives to the south, the less competitive in the north, and vice versa. To stand a chance of winning you need someone who can defeat Buhari in the North, with a SE VP.

Speaking for myself, I don't think such a candidate exists in PDP now. It appears the only variable that can stop Buhari from winning 2019 election is his failing health and if he can manage to stay healthy till election day, .......... the rest will be history.

I don't agree with this submission, was it during this same makarfi that the Shari'a killings occur in kaduna in 2001?,was it not this same makarfi that said "if the Shari'a bill is presented before me I will sign it on the spot" in 2001?,by the way is it only persons from NW that are good enough from the north to rule this country?,despite all the fabricated but shamefully unproven accusations of corruption against Atiku orchestrated by obasanjo out of his ego n selfish reasons,to me Atiku still remains the best man for the job from the north right now, fairness n equity demands that somebody capable from the NE should also be given a chance to pilot the affairs of the country, capability n experience wise Atiku is not lacking,he may not be perfect just as there is none perfectly clean Nigerian politician available, the self deceiving false righteous buhari inclusive,Atiku has proven without doubt that managerial n social interactive wise he is more than equipped to handle the country, having lived schooled studied worked in the north n follow the northern politics closely,I'm convinced without a doubt that Atiku's popularity is not massive in the north as buhari simply because he is not considered to be a northern conservative die hard enough n therefore not believe to be willing to defend the "agenda" hard enough,if not for these I don't see a makarfi or any other politician from the north today standing up to Atiku.

Markarfi is no doubt one of the presentable candidate from the North right now
-Good track record
-Plain corruption sheet (arguably)
-Only candidate that can move freely all round Nigeria without fear of being stoned cos he has been playing safe in the ethno-religious and political climate ever since.......

My advice to him..... He should come out with youth oriented manifesto along side with how best he can salvage the country from her present horrible situation APC have put us into

Finally ...he should Promise with well documented signed papers(because power do intoxicate) to serve just one term and pick a young lad(a brilliant fellow within age range of 35 -40yrs who has no political godfathers ) from southeast as his running mate to take over from him in 2023..

(Anything short of the above for me .... SOWORE all the way niyen... I will be part of his 100,000+ vote at poll grin
Only Buhari can deliver Igbo Presidency in 2023.

Makarfi in his days as the governor of Kaduna was able to handle the affairs of the state well. Now to 2019 election, Makarfi, Sule Lamido or Kwakwanso any of these men will give Buhari (APC) a good fight. Their popularity in the north couple with the fact that people are tired of this present government is enough to earn them victory. I don't see Buhari standing a chance against any of these three men.

Kaduna state is like a mini Nigeria where you have various ethno religious interests scheming... Under Makarfi he was fair to all to the extent that everyone now see him as their own.

He isn't a bigot... This is a fact!
Yeah, i witness this when i visited Kaduna 2005, tbh i give up 2 him. He tried to held fragile kaduna 2gether during his tenure, a total departure of wht we hv now in El-rufai led administration.

Jennifer Elizabeth Douglas, who has also gone by the names Jennifer Iwenjiora, Jamila Abubakar, and Jennifer Douglas-Abubakar, is the fourth wife of Atiku Abubakar. According to the Atiku Biography,Ms. Douglas was born in Nigeria as Jennifer Iwenjiora, worked as a television journalist at the Nigerian Television Authority, and dated Mr. Abubakar in the early 1980s, before leaving for the United States.

She lost touch with Mr. Abubakar while attending Howard University. She subsequently married in the United States, took the married name of Jennifer Douglas, and later divorced, becoming a naturalized U.S. citizen during this time period. Ms. Douglas eventually renewed her relationship with Mr. Abubakar who came to visit her in the United States. According to the Atiku Biography, from late 1995 to early 1998, while Sani Abacha was in power in Nigeria, Mr. Abubakar “spent most of his time in Maryland” with Ms. Douglas, making occasional visits to Nigeria.

Skipped a lot of paragraphs to the important bit on Page 190.

In December 2008, the U.S. Department of Justice and the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filed criminal and civil pleadings alleging that Siemens AG, a major German company traded on the New York Stock Exchange, violated the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) by making bribery payments to obtain business in multiple countries, including Nigeria.

Siemens pleaded guilty to violating the books and record keeping provisions of the FCPA, and agreed to pay combined criminal and civil fines totaling more than $1.6 billion.
What are you calling unproven?:

One of the allegations in the SEC civil complaint against Siemens was that “approximately $2.8 million of the bribe payments was routed through a bank account in Potomac, Maryland, in the name of the wife of a former Nigerian Vice President.”

The Subcommittee has obtained wire transfer documentation substantiating this allegation, as explained below. Through her legal
counsel, however, Ms. Douglas denies any wrongdoing

TonyeBarcasnista, I'm surprised no one brought up the issue of the Shari'a killings under his watch, and how Christians were slaughtered before they decided to fight back.

Go and tell Makarfi that he will not win in the SS/SE, he will not win in the NW/NE, he doesn't stand a chance in the S/W and the minorities in the NC are fed up with a Fulani presidency.

We still remember the Shari'a crisis. We remember the current Fulani issue. We will not vote for him in the NC.

This thread should give you an idea of what he faces if he decides to step out of his cocoon for a shot at the presidency.

Earlier, you told someone that a vote for Sowore is a waste, but typical you, you never see the bigger picture. It is always about now and here. Sowore or Moghalu may not win the presidency next year, but they represent a generation of those who are deciding to step up. And that springboard is all we need for a challenge at the old brigands.

And yes, I'll also vote for either Sowore or Moghalu.

If the PDP are wise, they should give their ticket to Governor Dankwambo of Gombe state.

Now we have a strong opponent to contest against buhari. Markafi is the least tribal and religious person i have seen from the north. He was born a fulani buh he schooled in the east "FGC enugu my al mater and he built lots of facilities in the school during his tenure as a governor and he realy inspired us with his advices whenever he visits. This clearly shows he is the only northerner who is credible enough to rule us witout been partial and he treats people fairly. Lets pray he agrees to contest
