Drop your experiences with the Samsung galaxy s5. And would you still buy the 4 year old phone in 2018?

S6 is a better option in terms of specs.

It's only fair if you get it at a good price. Otherwise i think 5" screen is so small, it's battery is of small capacity, storage is only 16GB and of course you get an old android version.
but all in all, it will perform just fine.

Just go for s6... It is preferable.
I'd rather buy tecno spark with that price than go for s5
S5 is rather obsolete

okay. Speaking from experience.
I have an s5 right now I'm using as my daily driver
I'm running android 8.1
Camera is still very good, better and perfect, no much difference from the s6 except nights shots without flash.
Front camera is 2.1mp,but I have compared this camera to the latest phones like tecno camon cm, x and Pro, and the s6. Difference from the s6 is able to zoom in much more without loosing details. And it's still a clear winner. Here

I have 16gb inbuilt, with 32gb memory card making it 48gb total.

I have played games like nba 2k17 was able to play at high setting maintaining good fps.

Over all it the beat phone u can buy at a cheaper rate now in naija, alternative to most cheap tecno phones like spark, camon, hot series etc.
I have a thread where I discussed about the android 8.1
Also you have Google camera port for s5, much better support on xda

Oga this your battery life clearly states LAST 'FULL' CHARGE and not last charge. Stop trying to mislead people.

Yea s6 battery is really a let down. I used it for 8 months and sold it because of the poor battery. But a very very good phone none the less for someone that works in an office and have access to charger on his desk. But for someone on the go, hmmm, before 1pm u will be needing to charge.

Ha ha badt guy. Me sef surprise, s5 with over 4 hours screen on time and still 67% battery left. That phone will struggle to get 4 hours screen on time in total.

Ok let me also upload my own battery usage. 7 plus hours with over 70% left, but inside of me I know this is not true since I have charged in between.

Using 2 batteries not an option.
I used to be a samsung fan. I still am.
But the battery life of s5 is terrible sometimes.
The s5 might last 6hours today.
And tomorrow it will barely last two hours. Phone will just get hot and keep draining.
Charge it full and watch it drain on its own gradually.

P.s I've used several s5 right from it launch in 2014.
Ive used over 4 different models of s5 with original batteries and they suck.
I've used g900h Hspa. (Bad battery life especially on Android 6)
G900v verizon (had a fair battery life.)
G900f international version
G900a at&t .

I never used s6 so i dont know about battery life.

But i used s7 edge and battery was fair.

I'm currently on lg G5 and the battery life so so Good.
Infact i love it.

Baba it's screen usage since last full charge which means if u top up charge without getting to 100% the counter will not reset. Just like the image I posted, I have over 7 hours screen on time and over 70% battery left. Does that mean I used only 25% battery with 7 plus hours screen on time? U and I know the truth.

Ha ha, I never used an s5, but used an s6 and the battery show me pepper. I use to charge it 3-4 times a day. This is a phone I will unplug at 100% by 7am and by 11-12 noon I'm already on 10%. I had to sell it. Then got s7 edge, that one had good battery, one of the best Samsung phones in terms of battery life... At least that one could take me till 3-4pm before I will need to top up. Right now I'm using LG v20 and the battery is fair, just like s7 edge battery if not a little better.

if I topped charge, I will say it.
Mobile data was turned off throughout. Used WiFi.
I am using a kernel k ow as smartpack Kernel. Check on xda
Screen usually off. What really used the display is the ambient display. Mostly. So?
@op if u get the s5, hit me up so I can show u how to get enough battery. Android 8.1 saves battery.
Then flashing a kernel will help u save lot of battery cause u can minimise the task done by cpu or the gpu. Only downside is that you have to enable performance back if u need to to do something g really quick. Like gaming.

Samsung battery almost made me go crazy.
Once a samsung phone gets warm. Just put it off and on it later. Because its gonna be a bad day. Phone will just keep draining.
Modern Lg Phones Are quite solid.
I like the G5. Only issue is poor gps (sometimes)
Might upgrade to the G6 .

Actually I was carried away by the design and camera. U know that phone was the turning point for Samsung, that was the first phone Samsung made with real premium feel. I sold it after 8 months, bought infinix hot s and still collected change. I used the hot s for like 10 months and replaced it with s7 edge, that one has a better battery.

Well nice one. just hard to believe that phone will do 4 plus hours SOT with 67% battery left. Like in my graph below, u can see I did a couple of top up charges to keep my SOT to 8 hours with 67% battery left. At least we know graphs don't lie, if u have recharged in between it will show in the graph

If I have 40k to buy a phone, I'll buy a S5 for 35k and use the remaining 5k to buy power bank rather than buy an Infinix hot 5 or a Tecno K9.

But if you're in places where there are no professional engineers that can repair your Samsung or Apple if it develops a fault, just buy Tecno or Infinix so that maintenance won't be an issue for you.

Lemme use myself as example, I used to use a Samsung s4 and a blackberry q10. The S4 developed a screen issue and I saved up money to buy a used s6 or note 4 but work took me to one village laidat in Benue [I'm gonna be here for a long time], so I carried my money and travelled with it hoping to buy the phone when I get to Benue, my brother you won't believe that Samsung is a luxury around here, ordinary samsung screen protector scarce for here except you go to Makurdi which is 3-4k away from here.

What did I do? I Jejely bought a brand new k7 to manage while I'm here and once I'm back to my base I'll return to my Samsung.
I can't be using a phone that I'd be travelling long distance to go and repair or buy accessories for.

My point? If you stay at a place where you've got good engineers, don't ever take a Tecno or Infinix device over a Samsung, LG or others. But if availability of good engineers is a problem, then go for the cheaper and substandard Tecno, Infinix and itel.
Tecno and its brothers can tolerate abuse but Samsung is just like BMW, e no dey tolerate abuse or inferior repairs and parts.
