Personally, I don't think that the shipping expense is necessary. You can get it done here but it will take you (not anyone with a Nigerian eye) to monitor the work.

That is the problem... who have time for all that.
I want cash and carry... kodile kodowo ni o.

When it comes to using stone coated roofing tiles, the gauge should not be a concern because that is not where the quality lies.

The quality is in the name of the manufacturer.
Not every warranty is a guarantee.
Just be careful.

My own understanding of DIY when it comes to building is like d project manager of your project. It doesn't stop one from engaging a professional. Because i have never for once seen any building owner here doing plumbing works or electrical wiring, because u will never learn anything in toto from youtube. The idea we share here is to have a clue, so we can interact with professionals without looking lost. Not that we are gonna do it ourselves. There is no way someone will learn electrical wiring from NL & Youtube without field training & wire a 3 bedroom bungalow, u go just burn your house. DIY approach is for minor fault, like fixing d wall socket, joining d tv wire etc...not full scale project. Whether u use the DIY route or not, u will still hire a professional or someone who has been in that line to execute the job while u watch. Just that most times the DIY approach gives one the confidence to hire less experienced persons, giving room for shoddy jobs.
Well said

I'll appreciate your responses. I want to understand what is required.
We use a submersible pump for our well and it pumps the water into the overhead tank. Do we expect the same for the borehole? It's not close to the overhead tank. It's about 12-15 metres away.
Will the borehole submersible pump do or is another surface pump required?
The borehole is 70m deep and the overhead tank is about 4m high.

Thank you.

Every drilled borehole will be accompanied by a submersible pump which is installed within the bored hole.
As long as your piping works runs from the borehole to the overhead tank that will do.

Surface pumps serves different purposes.
If there is a need for that your plumber will inform you.

If you have not been using a surface pump while you pump water from your well to the overhead tank, I see no reason to use it now given that you have a borehole.

Submersible pump can pump directly to overhead tank no matter the distance of your tank to the borehole. We have different hose-power of pump that can easily pump water to a long distance. The most expensive pump which is LOWORA normally give price base on the head and the flow rate. Their pumps don't normally comes in hose-power. But if you want to have reserve or back up water you may introduce a surface tank and from there it pumps to overhead tank.

Check these

These are nice. Really nice. The question now is with warping. Was the timber properly dried? If yes, this is the way to go. Not all those Chinese metal door or iron door. Internal metal door is so...........I don't know what to describe it.

There are two very home fixtures that will not make a presence in any of my projects: PVC ceiling and internal metal door. I don't know what happened to Nigeria in this direction of developmental travel. Well, I'm determined not to travel in this retrogressive development. So for me, is "normal" ceiling and normal internal wooden doors.

Well done. I love it. I did same.

Nice explanation sir, thanks.
But which is better btw submersible & surface pump?
Is surface pump the one under the tank stand?

If you have a borehole go for submersible pump. Surface pump can be use when you have surface tank. Most of the pump installed under the tank stanchion are booster/pressure pump.

SUBMERSIBLE is better if have a borehole and you don't need surface pump.

Thanks.

Well explained, tumb up,when you have professional in any field you will have rest of mind.

Fire on.

In addition to what engr topsy said you can use surface pump for shallow bore hole like 30ft which the water level is about 5-15ft.

You are very correct. I used wooden doors in my BQ but one of them gave me head-ache with warping that I end up throwing it away.
My carpenter did everything like putting many blocks and heavy objects on it for few days to straightened, but no luck.
So for the main Duplex, I bought Chinese/Turkey wooden doors for the internal doors except bathrooms that I used Chinese steel doors 'cos of water.

From ur explanation, seems the warping is peculiar to local wooden doors & not chinese/turkey wooden doors?

That's the right thing to do Sir.

I don't think you want to spend the first weeks of your vacation dealing with warped doors grin

Nigeria presents its own sets of issues on the outside world that I don't have to self-introduce problems on the inside of my residence for myself.
