Stupid people governed by a stupid president who believes a woman's only place is in "za oza room." Nigerians deserve such a president.

2. You are free to agree with Chimamanda's house nigger brand of feminism. Many do not. I think the argument being made by rational people is that being called a 'wife' is a beautiful thing that many women aspire to. My mother, grand-mother, sisters, friends, cousins are wives. It doesn't demean anyone. A wife is honored and respected. Of course Hillary Clinton now probably disagrees, but then she has her reasons, likely related to the malleable positions she adopts as a politician, and is free to do so.

3. The idea that women belong in the other room was widely criticized by Nigerians. It is the brainchild of our demented president that does not find significant support. Bringing it up now is simply a straw man argument and disingenuous of you.

4. Insulting Nigerians in blanket fashion as you have done, shows your improper upbringing. This is a bigger issue for you than Chimamanda's brand of identity politics.

5. Much respect for Daddy Freeze! He is of more value to Nigeria than Chiamamanda. He is real and a true reformer. He addresses contemporary issues fearlessly. He lives in Nigeria and feels the pain. Perhaps he could be less acerbic, but hey, we live in tumultuous times.

Sorry madam, your post is long on rhetoric and short on facts. People are demeaned everyday for a variety of reasons, from age, to size, to weight to marital status, to intelligence, qualifications and all sorts. being a wife/mother /father/husband is not an aspiration. it is part of the circle of life. 80% of us will get married and have children.

as i stated on another thread, no one will ever introduce you to a crowd, or gathering as husband /father first.

Most people do not make it to the top career wise. And I would never appreciate my doctors, to give an example, because they got married but for their expertise. Who the f*ck cares what they do in their homes? They may have a wonderful relationship, they may have a domestic war. How is it my business? And why would I respect a woman because she is a mother? Maybe she places her kids in front of the TV for hours each day so that their teachers will struggle to have them focused in the classroom. Anyone can f*ck and give birth but how will I know whether you do a good job with them especially in the Nigerian context where parents punish their kids like sadists. People at one time or the other in their lives, get demeaned for a variety of reasons, from their accent to their weight, height, skills, marital status, finances or educational qualifications. It does not mean that those who demean them, are right. If you want to base your emotions or live your life according to every demeaning remark made about you, then it is your call. Genevieve being a fine actress, has ignored those demeaning remarks and put them firmly under her feet!

Chimamanda's remark about Hilary Clinton's description of herself on her Twitter bio, is the subject here. Adichie should remember that the Twitter bio, belongs to Hilary, and no one else. Hilary made the choice to become a wife and mother and chose to list those attributes on her bio, because she felt they were important. Adichie should have left her alone, with her choice.
