People at one time or the other in their lives, get demeaned for a variety of reasons, from their accent to their weight, height, skills, marital status, finances or educational qualifications. It does not mean that those who demean them, are right. If you want to base your emotions or live your life according to every demeaning remark made about you, then it is your call. Genevieve being a fine actress, has ignored those demeaning remarks and put them firmly under her feet!

Chimamanda's remark about Hilary Clinton's description of herself on her Twitter bio, is the subject here. Adichie should remember that the Twitter bio, belongs to Hilary, and no one else. Hilary made the choice to become a wife and mother and chose to list those attributes on her bio, because she felt they were important. Adichie should have left her alone, with her choice.

Hillary's twitter bio is public, Hillary is a public figure and a self-proclaimed feminist who further agreed to have the interview and encouraged Chimamanda to ask any question she wants. And since she is a public figure with a public twitter bio and a self-proclaimed feminist, Chimamanda is well justified in asking this question so no she should not leave her alone with it, it was only logical to address it. Hillary was a bad candidate and it wasn't only because of the far right propaganda painting her as crooked. What cost her the election was her lack of authenticity. Her twitter bio is a perfect example of her inconsistency like her Hillarycare initiative which ended the moment the pharma industry started pouring money into her account. I do not share Chimamanda's admiration for Hillary but I see her hypocrisy clearly.

This is a lesson to all. If you stand for nothing, you will fall for anything. I'm greatly disappointed at Hillary for this display of weakness of purpose. Only weak people follow the crowd. Though she displays alot of confidence and strength but she's weak. This says alot about it. People always want to follow the trend; crippled by the fear of standing alone. If you can't beat them, stand alone!...don't conform!...

This shows she was not thoroughly convinced within herself on what she stands for. She's a model to many that uphold family values when she stood for her husband during the scandal. Now she has degraded the respect such people have for her because of the views of a young lady who married a spineless weakling; who is deceitfully engrossed in mirage of confused perspective about what nature has put in place. I'm not against equal opportunities but don't take it too far. The moment you start fighting nature there are terrible consequences. That's why you see people having sex through the "un-natural" part are hit with strange diseases because they think they are wiser than nature. Hillary Clinton, you are weak and confused!

Yes, Hilary is a public figure. But does being a public figure take away her right to make choices about her identity, and about how she sees herself? I still do not understand Adichie's poke-nosing into Hillary's bio. If what Hilary had written was incorrect, or if she chose to ascribe to herself qualities she did not possess, then it would have been a different matter. After all, in her first bio, Hilary put "wife, mother and grandmother," but still included Senator, Secretary of State and FLOTUS, in the list. She did not drop one for the other. So what on earth was Adichie yapping on about? For Hilary, it is clear that her personal relationships are just as important, as her professional achievements, and she has every right to determine the order in which they are listed! People need to respect that, whether she is a public figure or not!

Even after amending her bio, did she drop the descriptions, "wife, mom and grandmother" from her bio?? So why split hairs over such a mundane issue? There are far more important issues, that Adichie could have focused on, instead of taking potshots at Hilary's bio.

I'm equally more disappointed knowing that u are a woman like chichi.....chichi and Hillary were clearly trying to correct somethings.the message is for young girls in third world

many women believe being a house wife should be their first priority cos society made it so.....the agenda is to correct the notion that u can chose what/who u want to be without the societal pressure.

imagine a young girl who sees Hillary as her role model and wants to become a doctor cos she had passion for medicine....she checks Clinton's bio and realises 'wife' comes first.who u know that alone could change the girl's mentality.

Good adjustment. As a public figure, people ought to care about your public achievements. Those things come first before your personal bio which includes your marriage status.

The only reason why Nigerian barbarians were after chimamanda is because marriage in Africa (which is fast becoming a sham) is the only achievement they have. No inventions, no progress nothing!

It took an African feminist to set things straight with Hillary who should have known better. We are gradually getting there.
