Violent thugs suspected to be supporters of Minister of Mines and Solid Minerals today disrupted the All Progressives Congress, (APC) primary in Ado-Ekiti.
The thugs numbering about 20 who had entered the stadium venue of the voting exercise pounced on ballot boxes following proven suspicion that Senator Babafemi Ojudu was leading the 33 aspirants with former Ekiti State Governor, Chief Segun Oni on his trail. Thousands of delegates had voted before the thugs sprang violence, kicking the boxes and disrupting the entire exercise.
"We are shocked about the manner Fayemi brought thugs to this place. They came in under the guise of observers. They were brought in from Ondo and Kogi States where his friends ate the state governors", Chief Hakeem Fakunle, a supporter of Mr Segun Oni told our correspondent. He said Dr Fayemi became unease following indications that Senator Ojudu was leading.
2,618 delegates were registered to vote ij the primary where only one candidate will emerge in a rowdy pack of 33. No fewer that four local governments had voted before mayhem ensured.
Many delegates who spoke to our correspondent said Dr Fayemi demonstrated rash desperation in his bid to lead the largely agrarian state again. Fayemi was the state governor until he lost to Mr Ayodele Fayose in 2014. "We are shocked by what Dr Fayemi did today.
