You've made some very valid points regarding how China does business with Nigeria - Africa. As someone presently living in China, I can unequivocally tell you the Chinese do not care about any other nation's true prosperity. When China uses its right hand to give grants / loans to poor countries especially African countries, it (China), uses its left hand and both legs to take back what it gave them with interest of course, and on top of that it would exploit the natural resources of its loan beneficiaries. That's how China is building its own type of hegemony. It's sad beyond words that a nation like Nigeria wealthy in natural resources would go cap in hand to China to beg to money to develop its decaying infrastructures. Nigeria should have been amongst one of the best countries in Africa and the world if our leaders had not been corrupt, greedy, wasteful and utterly clueless when it comes to governance.

Don't you guys get tired of saying the same thing over and over again?

The leaders don't fall from the sky. They are selected from amongst us.

I would go as far as saying the followers give leaders the kind of authority, backing and support that they weild.

Nigerians are the problems of Nigeria.

What about Industrial Machineries for local producers? What about opportunities for increasing exports?

I already addressed Importation of Machineries and raw materials in the last part of my post.
Increased export on the other hand will be relatively minimal considering the fact that Nigeria is am Import-oriented economy so its trade Imbalance will widen against the Chinese.
We need a vibrant manufacturing sector to compensate for those current Imbalances.

2 things
1. We are Import-Oriented, yet you agree that we need to import machinery to help drive local production
2. You say we need a vibrant manufacturing sector to "Compensate for current Imbalances"

I ask again, where will the machines come from? Don't you see the irony in your submission?

It’s better to do business with China than your almighty USA.

China is better than USA in all ramifications

USA is only interested in USA only while China is interested in its own pocket but yours too

Nigeria and other Africa countries have been dealing with USA for only God knows when but what do we get in return? Darkness, dead social infrastructures etc

In less than 10years of China presence in Africa, they have done what USA and EU couldn’t do for years.

All Africa countries are shifting towards China hence USA recent outburst

Lmao! Lol! You wrote gibberish up there. Who buy most of the things made in China? The same USA buy 70% of Made in China products. So why would Nigerians stop patronising China products?

There are loads of Chinese investors in Nigeria today looking for where to invest their money, pls, how many USA investors do we have right now in Nigeria?

It’s the same fucking USA that do everything to destroy Nigeria image abroad by reporting everything that equally happened in their shithole country about Nigeria but failed to bring their own to the media via CNN, CBSetc

The USA that tried to bully Nigeria into accepting homosexuality as our way of life

Nothing good is in USA foreign policy and the whole world are waking up to USA menace

Go to Parts of Nigeria where new tracks are being built and jobs being created.

China is massively building roads network, 21st century trains tracks across the country.

Soon, China will help Nigeria to solve our electricity problem which USA and EU have been sabotaging for years so as to keep our country as undeveloped country
oga you are a blind rat. if you are hostile towards homosexuals I am not. it is a personal lifestyle. you way no accept homosexual if dem give you visa to live in the land of homosexuals you will.

tell me one country that china has helped developed. mention one only abeg. china is not building anything for free. china is using u to build china. all the dungs in china are thrown in here. do not be blind. remove the cataract for your eyes oga. you are very blind and seeli. all those tracks that they are building are fake. when Julius beggar day build roads for us we no day get complaints. all the Chinese roads by ccc are failing. they do not last. if trailer pass am twice we will need another budget for repairs. china has not done anything for us. if you are looking for where the british developed all these year look your backyard. all the major developments in this country na british do am. Nigeria has not developed since then. look at the port that the british built. since then Nigeria has not built another. look at the refineries that the and the means of transport. look at our railway na oyibo build am. our awter ways na british. guy you no know history. u let mumu day guide you. since the british left Nigeria has not moved an inch. as soon as they left in 1963 three years after there was a coup. na military regime we day since. looting and corruption. they brought democracy and handed it to the same military guys. how the british won help you with people like Buhari who ceased the british airplane when he was caught kidnapping and abducting someone on the british soil. this is the same thing that Russia did recently and they got a huge spank for. the british were really lenient with us.
go read book you no no anything.

china never fit develop common north korea they share borders with. na china won develop Africa? they are only looking for space to buy in case war start witht he US. there is Vietnam there is laos.there is north korea. they should develop those places before Nigeria. we are not that poor to beg china. for what? get sens

It's sad some youths and even adults do not understand what's truly going on. They're carried away by the infrastructures being built in Nigeria by the Chinese not knowing our leaders and policy makers have sold us for cheap. The British, American, French ... bought our vast mineral resources for cheap because of the short sightedness and corrupt mindsets of our leaders. The same scenario is now being played by our leaders with the Chinese. We're being raped. Our children's future is being mortgaged for railroad infrastructures. You people don't know zilch what's happening. When our debt to China can't be paid as and when due, we'd all be forced to speak Chinese as a second language. Good thing I already speak the language grin

I never disputed the fact that Imports are needed but the compostion of a country’s import is vital.

More of capital goods should come in as against finished products.. which is not the case of Nigeria.

We have comparative advantage to produce certain items we import... our moribund refineries can be resuscitated.

the real beneficiary to this deal is China. instead of Nigerian government to look inward and see how it can shake up its manufacturing and production of locally made goods they are swapping currencies for Nigeria to become the largest dump sites of adulterated goods. china is not a credible market for Nigeria. Chinese make fake goods and fakes drugs for Nigeria. why cant we aim higher than the toilet? is it wrong to swap currency with Japan? How about Germany or Australia? we have the oil for crying out loud. Why can't we do business with big giants like the US? Buhari recently went to the US but for what?

China is making billions from Nigeria and they need us. we are begging china for what? we are part of the reasons why the Chinese can tussle with the US. the US imposed a recent tax increase on Chinese goods. they know that they have other markets to sell fake stuff and make higher profit that is why they are feeling high.

warri steel, ajaokuta steel why cant we harness what we have? look at all our ports are closing. warri port is a bay of fleas, port harcourt is being salvaged by the oil vessels leaving the bay. why cant we open up these areas. by now easterner and southerners should not risk their lives on the roads with loads. our waterway should be functioning. why can't the igbos drop their goods on a boat and ship it to the east. why do they have to encounter thieves and robbers and also criminal law enforcement officers on the road?
if these goods came into the country by water, why cant they be moved into boats and shipped down? why do easterners have to travel down to lagos to board an international flight when the traffic in our airports is from the east? why not make life easy for people?

kano airport is an eyesore. is not an airport is an air strip. dirty and dilapidated. and yet we have big names from that state. why is the railway not functioning? why should the hausa man carry loads in gwongoro from lagos to kaduna? why should southerners and westerners carry yam and agricultural products in gwongoro from the north? why cant we have trains?

the government knows what to do but they just being wicked.

look at the things going on in this country and many people are silent. anyone silent over evil is an accomplice of evil. look at how all our Nollywood stars came out to voice their support for bbnaija. so they know about bbnaija and people die in benue and none of them came out.

the only person deserving or respect in Nollywood are Stella Damascus, God bless that lady. Stella, Gordons and Ali baba. The rest of them are selfish cowards. devools who care less about the evil in our country. is it wrong for AGN president to summon celebrities to use their platforms to campaign for a better Nigeria? after we don fight and dyie finish dem go come out and day smile fake smiles with their dirty bodies.

see yesterday for headies all the girls dress up like Hollywood celebrities but they cannot maintain their bodies to look like Hollywood celebrities. carry fat full everywhere. she as Tiwa dress like cheap tramp.

there is no electricity in our country. this is the deal that Nigeria should swap with china. not currency. let the Chinese come and build our electricity like the americans built the panama canal. let them manage it for 100 years for all I care but let there be light in Nigeria. ah ah God create the full world and said let there be light. why is there no light in Nigeria?

and we are celebrating all these people. speak the truth. these people do not care about us. show no love to a heartless man. people are dying people are suffering and no one cares. we keep acting selfishly until we become victims or our family members begin to gt victimized. they are killing us and no one is coming out.

what sort of deal is this? all the fake Gucci, fake fones and fake products all come from china. china is not credible at all. we have the money why not buy from the US or Germany? the president's cars did not come from china. if they want to swap with chinea let us start from the presidency. let him use Chinese fones, drive Chinese cars and let the Chinese build his house. they are populating our country with trash. we do not need china. china needs us. we are a target for china.

Dora Akunyili went to china to plead with the government to stop selling fake medicine to Nigeria. she went that far. china is too populated they do not care about humans. if you have ever been to china you will see that what they sell to you is not what they use. they cannot never use what they give you. is that a country to partner with? let us develop ourselves. Nigerians are all running out. nothing works at all. a bunch of mediocrity remains to destroy the country. it hurts really bad to see people suffer for nothing. people die from buying fake drugs.

God bless you!

Don't care if you sponsored anybody's campaign.

I am stating the fact that it is.

No Nigerian has the right to complain about the exchange rate if he's not exporting or creating a local substitute for what is usually imported.

You need to be corrected.

It is not my duty nor yours to export but for the government to create the right environment for it to boom

It is the governments responsibility.

We have all been hoodwinked by government's who have encouraged us to.

Truth is that many countries export booms were started by foreign investors who set up factories for exports. That was how China started.

Other countries created the right environment for exports to flourish.

Nigeria needs to do more to help exporters and the biggest help is to bring lending rates down to single digits like 7%.

This will have a trans-formative effect for instance.

You simple forgot to blame the most important culprit, YOURSELF

Great post. Your dissection of the arguments of kola was flawless.

I am greatly impressed by your intellect, PLEASE since kola's logic was faulty, what solutions do you propose that you think would work for Nigeria?

I don't believe folks like Atiku and Sowore, but i always read their political manifestos and economic blueprints. I love learning and seeing from others' perspectives.

Thanks Bro, but we learn from each other everyday. To your question, our problem to me is less of manifestos and blue print (although a well articulated and visionary blueprint is essential). Our problem to me is the need to take our fate in our hands and work it out, but I will discuss a few

1. We all need to be committed to the Nigerian franchise. We dwell too much complaining, comparing ourselves to others, running away from our problems and blame game. The people blame the government, the government blame the people, South blames North, North blames South, Christians are anti-Islam, Islam is anti-Christian. We've driven the "irresponsible" culture down up to family levels....... we are less committed to solutions. My take is until we start from our little way to "generate" the "air of solution" and let such envelope our country.........
2. We need to learn take longer-term approach to problem solving. We want quick fixes and see longer-and-more-sustaining solutions as time wasting. For example look at this currency swap deal with China. If we are strategic, I would imagine that there will be increase in import volumes of allowable products, then (if we are smart) we constrain the Chinese to situate the manufacturing plants of some of these products in Nigeria, with an equitable Nigerian staff and mandatory knowledge transfer. Later the government can partner with a consortium of Nigerian private sector players to build local replicas. After we've fully mastered the technology and can mass produce conveniently, we start reducing the volume of imports and get them off our import list. That's the model the China, Singapore, Malaysia etc used. My lecturer in Bskul once joked that the Bus Jinbei (Replica of Toyota Hi-Ace) is one of the Bi-products of Toyota's misadventure in China. We need to be smart about how we use this currency Swap deal while it lasts. We cannot afford to sit idle, and be like all roads leads to China, and start importing with reckless abandon. Govt needs to step in as early as possible and control what will be imported under the swap arrangement. The proportion of finished goods must be lower than raw materials, machines and manufacturing input.

3. We must develop our home grown solution. Prof Osibanjo alluded to this at the WEF conference where he ascerts that African have started demonstrating the ability to solve their own problems in their own way. We must take learning experience from every situation. For example, politics is local, so also should our education systems, health care, infrastructure, power etc have a sizable does of local flavour. Do we need "world class" hospitals or more of "Decent Health Centres" that are 5mins distances in each localities. Do we need mega schools (Aregbesola's model - Standard schools with adequate infrastructures capable of hosting 1000 students per school) or do we need "Decent small schools" (Indian Model) 5 mins walk in every locality. I share Prof. Osinbajo/Fashola's vision on Rural Electrification; i.e. Off-Grid solar models for markets, village homes, clinics, town-halls etc where we can cut heavy cost and investment in power-grid infrastructure to these localities and the cost of the infrastructures out-weighs the returns. I was on a research team 2yrs ago. We observed that a market cluster started evolving in Brazil called the "Home-Made" markets. People in their homes are making cakes, biscuits, clothes....name it and were selling through social media, word of mouth and referals. It elicited attention in the academia because of the share volume of people and transactions in these market space. ......my point - We must develop "local" solutions.

3. We must open the country up further in business. We have lots of virgin "waste-lands" that are assets to us. We need Agri-Business clusters, Cloth-making clusters, Petro-chemical clusters. There is a lot of potential opportunities here. We have huge deficit in the blue-collar sector for example. Our artisans are sitting on gold-mine but are ignorant about it. I get upset when I see for example road construction going on and a "white-man" is driving Caterpillars, Welding and other somewhat basic technical stuffs. Many people are in Universities, but ideally should be in specialized skill development institutions that are feeders to budding SME and Industries. Our leaders needs to start painting these pictures in simplistic terms to the lay-man.

4. We must kill corruption in all spheres. We must not play politics with it. Be it APC or PDP, let all corrupt element be prosecuted and jailed. What we are doing now is horse trading; putrid narratives like "why is it only "looters" in PDP.......". It is when we understand that the $3billion stollen by Diezani, Aluko and Omokore could have paid the salaries of N-power workforce for 2yrs, should we begin to understand what corruption is doing to kill us. We must jail corrupt people and jail them "generously", not a slap on the wrist.

my 2 cents
