Congratulations bro.
Maybe you should consider moving closer to Boston. Like Newton, Lynn or any of the cool suburbs. That way you don't have to drive long hours, just some few stops on the MBTA. The prestige of working in that city alone self is enough to add some extra chips to your shoulders. Lolz
I lived in Boston/Cambridge as a postdoc at MIT and most of our Professors take the MBTA.

I am off today.

So i said earlier, things are suppose to be easier after getting a residency?

Hell no. I take that back. Don't get me wrong, i am doing remarkably okay. But i am stressed out. holy shhhit, I am stressed out.

I work in boston. Pay in boston is relatively higher. I get paid 21.75$ starting and i work 40-47hrs per week. I get two days off. I am however, sick of the driving. The traffic is terrible. I spent 2 hours in a 45-50mins drive. I have to pay 9$ to park everyday (they are increasing it to 16$ cos other parking garage is 16$). I have been applying to other jobs and doing interviews. I just haven't found something yet.

Getting a job is hard. DOn't get me wrong, there are jobs everywhere BUT once you become LEGAL (no more on a visa), you become so picky, your qualifications and how it can help your career path or a paying job comes to play.

I have become so picky. I have no passion to work long hours or Nights right now.

Right now, i just wanna find something closer so i don't have to drive far. I have two interviews scheduled for the rest of the week for now. I hope i get something.

Let me go back and sleep some more grin grin

so i have been doing interview just for the fun of it.

Yesterday, i got called for an interview.

This white 27yrs old lady interviewed me and i could sense the Nervousness in her voice (she is the hiring manager lol)

Something about me makes her nervous like she literally melting like a jello (maybe i am her first black candidate, maybe she has a fetish for black guys. i really don't know. i don't plan to find out)

I used it to my advantage and turned around the interview.

I asked her how long she's been working there and what level she started at. I asked her if she likes her job, i asked her how old she is and i almost asked her to hypothetically tell me why i should hire her. it was my funniest interview experience ever. She said she's gonna talk to her GM and give me a call.

I am so unserious with life right now. Now that i can get a job, i am fooling around.

Don't mind me people. I am still basking in the excitement of showing my green card every time lol

I have been reading and enjoying your posts. Please what kinds of jobs do you apply for on indeed? We know naija degrees are useless here, so that kind of limit job searches to menial labor jobs. I really need your insights into this.

Naija degree useless? Nah bro. Naija degree is meant for you to build on. it isn't useless bro. No degree is useless once your school is accredited from the country the degree is from

I have been applying for jobs i have experience in. Technician Jobs, Networking, Service technician, Comcast Tech. (those are the jobs i am really interested in for now)

I however applied to all jobs Indeed suggested to me (from the experience i filled out).

Fulfillment jobs, Logistics, Food service (from when i was on a Visa lol) etc etc. I just kept applying.

Thanks. You are right about building on what you already have. I plan to do my licensure examination soon. Without that, I can't work her in my field. I really appreciate your reply.

That's what you gotta do. I have licensing exams to write to. Even at that, i still need to work and pay bills and car payments and savings.

So, that degree isn't useless at all (even if na Political Science you study) as long as you can go for post grad studies or evaluate your degree to US equivalent.

Welcome to the real world my brother....your 'American dreams' starts now..the higher you go the tougher it becomes,
Don't forget to come here to narrate your average monthly expenses.....rent,utilities,insurance (rental, health, car, life).car repairs and fueling, and all others.
Am surprised you guys only got approved for just $150k in a state like MA despite your good credit....I guess it's because you still don't have long credit history.
An average 4bdr duplex in Boston is within $400k and above.
I will just advise you take it easy and don't rush in everything.plan ahead and you would be fine.
Once again,congrats.

Most of the job interviews here are mostly centered around what you can offer and not where you have your certificate.have not seen anyone discriminated upon cos he has a degree outside of US.
All you need is to keep brushing yourself up with latest skills and you should be fine.

He's presently a green card holder and will be getting his citizenship by October this year.

@SexyDuby,
The OP or other people here are not the best people to ask this kind of questions especially the op situation was different from yours.
Why don't you check out uscis Web page and learn more about the process or information you are looking for.

Hello,
Please I need advise on what step to take. My fiance is in US and we plan to get married later in the year.
I've been to the US twice last year on a visit visa which I just renewed again this year.
My question now is which route is the fastest to getting an immigrant visa to enable me join him legally.
We were thinking of going to court dis summer when I visit again but learnt there's a new 90-days rule stating you can't come in with your visiting visa and get married to a US citizen before 90days during your visit.
I'm not sure about how long it'll take to process the fiancee or spouse visa.
Pls I need your advise on my best option to go about this.
....
It's difficult for me to understand what exactly you wanna do as per getting married to your spouse based in the US.
let me say this,K1 (fiance visa) process is almost same as the normal visitor visa (b1/b2) only that the interview usually appear more difficult as you have to prove beyond doubt you have a bona-fide relationship with your fiance but it's doable.I believe that's your best bet if you are thinking of getting married asap.
Secondly, why not wait till he gets his passport and let him just file for you straightaway which also could take couples of months to finalise.I think your challenge here is the timeline.
Also, why not relocate with your B1 visa and stay until you are free by law to marry him??.
You have many options at your disposal with different timeline but same results but the K1 visa is still your best bet for now if waiting till he becomes citizen is like waiting till eternity.
Choose wisely.

I had planned small xmas for my people here.
$500 shared between 10/15 people would have done it.
Right now i am broke. I hsve been "defeated".
My immediate family doesn't have my number anymore. They can't reach me. I deactivated WhatsApp, delete messenger, stop my wife from posting on FB.

It started with me footing one of my dearest family member medical bills sometimes ago.
I was recently tricked into sending $2650.

I have come to accept my loss and I'm moving on.

Right now, i just want to have peace of mind and constant family drama isn't giving me that. My Mrs has suffeeed enough with me being "erratic". I finally opened up to her. I hate to say she was right.
She was right!!. I should focus more on making america home

Yes, i saw the post asking for financial help. Right now, i am in no position to help anyone. I need help myself.

Wow! This country is bleeped, nobody can be trusted. So sorry to hear this Bro.

Pls advise on the best approach to go about this.

you might need to wait till he gets his citizenship. PR holders can not file adjustment of status for Alien relatives from inside the US (it take a longer as a PR petitioning for Spouse)

if you decide to use your Tourist visa and stay behind, you'd have to wait anyways but the question might come up during your adjustment interview once your husband becomes citizen while you decide to stay. you need to figure a good answer to that.

you can either wait till your Fiancee become a US citizen, go through the process of a fiancee petition or Overseas USC marriage or come to the US and prepare to start your life while waiting for your Hubby citizenship.

If you choose the latter (which i will do if i were in your shoes), please don't rush to get married when you get here. Observe the 90 days rule. Start the process 4months after to be on the safer side.

All the best

either ways, you'll need to have enough patience to wait for the process.

Almost all countries in the caribbean does it, Easter Europe countries, Europe countries, Southern American countries (all countries with good diplomatic relations with the US)

if you are a student in any of those regions, please check with the US embassy website of the country or check for sponsored organizations website

African nations too does it, it just had seeing anyone coming directly from Nigeria.

Bro, trust me. I have done the "Mental gymnastics" and weigh my options carefully before deciding. My main aim is getting my parents here as fast as possible before old age health issues starts to set in. and i believe that will in a way help others that wants to come behind though theirs might take years. It is all sacrifices

Another thing i took note of is the training aspects and the benefits i might get doing that.

I'm giving myself 4years max. Regardless of what the recruiter says or didn't say, i am joining. No be Soldier dey go war. a lot of them are just administrative duties.

If there is anything you think i should know, please enlighten me
Sorry for the late reply ,you know how busy everybody dey for this country. The first step is to decide what field you want the military to train you on i.e how to build houses, repair heavy duty vehicles or machineries etc there are hundreds of jobs they can train you on that can fetch you above 100k after your service (just search them on google and pick the one you like)The free college grant for your school and citizenship are sure bankers before you complete your service. The second step is to write and get good scores on asvab so that you get into your dream field you want the military to train you on.Read a book they call asvab for dummies. It will help you a lot. That exam resemble JAMB but not difficult like it so you will easily smash it.If you get low sores like 30 something the army will still take you but will assign you to a field you may or may not like .Don't allow your recruiter to rush you into taking the exam so that you can prepare well and get good scores and good field. After ASVAB ,your recruiter will drive you to MEPS office in the state capital where there screen you physically and medically for drugs, tattoo, vision and hearing test etc and if you pass they will give you a date for shipping to basic training. Army is very prestigious here as you get respected everywhere you go.If you apply for your parents to come here the visa na sharp sharp cos you're defending the country ,discount in shopping stores&car dealers, best medical care in the world for you and family, loan that can reach 100s of thousand for house, federal credit union loans etc too numerous to mention. You took the right decision to serve this free country which is the greatest democracy in the world. If you have any question, just feel free to pm me
