A Lagos-based man is furious at Jumia e-commerce company over a fake phone that was sold to him as a Samsung phone from the official Jumia website.
Okoye Stanley said he bought a supposed “Samsung Galaxy A7 (2016)” with order number 372911546-9953 and IMEI 355010/07/858351/7 on March 1st 2018. Shortly after the phone arrived, it became partially blind such that he took it to a Samsung office for repair under warranty but he made a shocking discovery: the “Samsung” phone he paid for is actually a fake phone. He said he was not able to get a response from Jumia after contacting them on several platforms.

Okoye wrote:

Good morning peeps. This is to inform you on fake online platforms that also sell fake products to unsuspecting buyers.I bought a Samsung galaxy a7 2016 smart phone with order number from jumia on 1st of March 2018.Just two weeks ago(28 april),I observed an ink dent on the inside of the phone screen(note-the phone did not fall nor fall inside water).l sent jumia series of complaints on their Facebook page and email address regarding the state of the phone l bought from them, they did not respond to any.Just a week ago,l noticed the ink was gradually spreading to the rest of the screen,so l had to call the jumia delivery guy who delivered the phone to me in Port Harcourt (Mr Jacob Godwin-09037736151).He said l should take it to any Samsung service centre for repairs because it is under warranty. When l got there, the lady just removed the pouch and quickly said “nay nay”.She told me that the phone doesn’t have warranty.l swallowed my spit in excitement and enquired to know why, because l just bought it.She told me outrightly it is a fake phone. Then l called the jumia delivery guy for like five times to tell him the challenge l had, he did not pick and hasn’t called back uptill now.l took the phone to two different repair centres just to confirm the lady’s statement,l was told the phone is fake.l went back to the Samsung centre to know if it could be repaired and the lady told me it’s 40k only for the screen and there’s high chance of the ink affecting other parts of the phone. This is my second bad experience from jumia. The first was when I bought a gold wrist watch in 2016 and the whole thing peeled off after some months. Please be informed and share to avoid the mistake l made.

If we ask them to try shopping on GearBest or any other online dealer outlets, they will be shouting scam, scam as if they have tried them before as they have been trying Jumia all this while. Most of this phones you buy is from a third party dealer on Jumia and some of this dealer are hardened criminal that will look for any slightest mistake to scam you and that's is why Jumia introduce Jumia Express where all products are been tasted, kept on their warehouse. So guys, beware and always order from Jumia Express instead of this third party you see on Jumia website.

Bro not all products you will see on store near you nah, but hey, let me say the truth I have not order anything from Jumia before because of the bad experience my guy had with them. All my products is straight from GearBest and they have not disappointed before. They always deliver within 7-10 days straight to my doorstep.

If you think service provider in Nigeria have their customer in mind then you better wake up because they are there to make profit only, will never allow themselves run at lost and always protect their end even if the fault is theirs.

Their true colour will be reveal when you have an issue. Reason you have to be careful in your dealings. E.g Banks

Little help needed here. Recently got a Samsung phone (galaxy grand prime plus) but having challenges with storage. Apps can't be moved to my sd card and the internal memory of the phone is awfully small. Any solution to this please?

My Wife bought bag from Jumia, the pictures on display is totally different from the arrived bag. The bag was so bad that it does not even have linen, the handle broke the very first day she took it out and now the bag is completely useless. When she received the order, she tried to return it seeing that it is totally different from what they display but Jumia refused to accept the bags.

Honestly you have to be careful of what u buy from them, although I v bought things from them without issues but the first time I encouraged my wife to use them, Jumia messed up.

Forget Jumia express. They sold a dead product to me in January. They stopped responding to my mails and kept feigning ignorance when I call. They only refunded me last week after the we kept sending the item back and forth. They claimed it skipped their test that they thought it was working when I sent it back the last time.

To rub salt on injury, they offered me a 2k compensation in voucher which I rejected - an indirect way of luring me back.

I and my lawyer are looking at a possibility of making a claim. Our mumu don do

There is nothing you can do about this sadly. You need to make do with just the basic apps. Idk why they still make phones of 8GB storage space though.

You are right but these days, Jumia Global Express is helping oversea sellers in selling substandard products. I'm done with Jumia and anything online buying.

My man, Jumia prices are sometimes higher than the shops' prices. The cheapest infinix hot 5 on Jumia is costlier than the one I bought from a shop.

Well I buy stuffs a lot from jumia and they have been good. I bought a blender recently and after the 3rd time, it got spoilt. I sent jumia an email and they replied with the company contact no, so I can take it there. I have a 1 yr warranty on the product. I got to the company and told them I bought it from jumia and showed them the receipt. My blender was repaired for free. They didn't take a dime from me. I don't see anything wrong with jumia.

I have bought things worth millions on Jumia and no bad experience so far... wink

This is what I do, after searching for the product, I will then go to the product category and compare prices, read reviews and look for product with warranty if what I am buying is expensive... I goggle product which I am not familiar with so as to know what to look out for.

You just have to be careful when shopping online grin
