Im happy u said village men and before colonization. Things and the mentality are very much different from then. Look at wat happen to the black American community after the whites gave them guns. They nearly finished off themselves for the dumbest reasons. Only civil minds and people deserve guns now. Unless ure a hunter then it's strictly for hunting.

I agree with your post except to point out that: 1) American blacks are "finishing off themselves" because of drugs, not because they were given guns; 2) Because of the danger and waves of deadly home invasions and violent robberies, shotguns can be good for home protection, not just hunting.

However, I'm not a freewheeling gun proponent for Nigeria. Especially regarding handguns or conceal-carry.

egunmogaji is a unique animal - a true to life liberal gun nut and the guy can last longer than the energizer bunny in arguments.

I've only recently had to consider gun availability in Naija ever since few years ago my sister got the fright of her life in Lagos Mainland when a thief walked up to her at a bus stop and showed/pointed a gun while trying to steal her handbag. Up till then I had no idea guns were so available in Nigeria to the point common omo-ita or amugbo can just walk up to you holding one! . Sis was so frightened she bought a car and learned to drive it pronto!

Armed robbers going to peoples homes has been prevalent since the eighties. When I think of the way to curb or defend against that, I always remember the story of how the late great Samuel Ladoke Akintola single-handedly defended his home from mother$@%÷#&!* misguided murderers with his shotgun. He didn't go down without a fight! Yup, if more people were armed with that to defend their home, the story and fear of violent raping robbers will reduce to nil.

On a personal level, in Naija, my only experience with guns was one day -almost a lifetime ago - I watched as this our bearded Tokunbo Ajebutter neighbour across the street was being restrained from going after some other neighbour that insulted him or his family. It was wild how serious it was! (Was it you, Jakumo?) His mother his wife his children the aunties and others practically sat on him to stop him from walking out to the compound! And a crowd gathered. Including me and all the kids in the neighbourhood. You know how naija is. Mo gbo mo ya back then had nothing to do with Owanbe. Later, they explained to my little ears that it was serious because the man had a gun and he was getting it and going after the offending neighbour to "teach him a lesson." Well, he would have ended up in Kirikiri and probably dead by the hangman's noose. So, yes his mother was beside herself and ready to restrain him no matter what it took.

I did a search for this old case of an home invasion by ex-convicts that forever convinced me of a need for adequate protection for ones home and made me a lifelong supporter of the NRA. The criminals have weapons; the law-abiding public that want to defend themselves and their children shouldn't have to be sitting ducks! Always been an ardent supporter of the death penalty.

I didn't rmember the names of the deceased or where it happened but just typing "two daughters mother killed home invasion" yielded the right result. I can't even read it but go ahead, if you can.

A gun is not something you put away until you need it. You need to practice with it at a range.

I do this weekly.

Also, a gun is like a tool. You have hammer, screwdriver, saw, etc

Different guns for different purpose.

A conceal carry pistol is smaller, a home defense pistol needs to be bigger, and no self respecting gun owner will go without a shotgun and a rifle. You should have a single shot gun at a minimum but better to also have a double just for good measure.

For rifle, you need standard barrel and should add a long barrel so you can pick out farther targets with accuracy.

Actually not my type at all. I am a responsible card-carrying NRA member in good standing. These are criminal ghetto rats, they bring disgrace to law-abiding citizens.

But. . . nurses are deadly.
