Ademola Babalola in Ibadan

The Chairman, Editorial Board of THISDAY Newspaper, Olusegun Adeniyi, thursday received accolades from a cross section of the academia, public analysts, media and students as varsity professors reviewed his book ‘Against the Run of Play’ at a special book reading of the Ibadan School of Government and Public Policy (ISGPP).

Adeniyi who was also Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua was the guest of the ISGPP where varsity dons and other stakeholders at the session dissected the book and commended the renowned journalist for providing insights into many untold stories in the corridor of powers.

Speaking at the occasion, Adeniyi argued that the 2019 presidential race was presently in favour of President Muhammadu Buhari in view of the lack of cohesion and formidable opposition to produce a likely challenger to the incumbent as witnessed in 2012, three years to the 2015 race.

Warning that the opposition political parties risk biting their fingers at the end of the forthcoming election, Adeniyi said the scenario was more favourable to Buhari because till date, there was yet to emerge a consensus figure to give the All Progressives Congress (APC) a run for their money and popularity.

He identified fragmented opposition as the most important factor that makes incumbent candidates win elections all over the world, just as he recalled that President Goodluck Jonathan of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lost in the 2015 election because the opposition parties came together to form a strong force against him and his party.

Adeniyi said such development is rare in other countries of the world but is required to defeat any incumbent.

According to him, “I don’t expect anything different in the 2019 elections. I expect that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will perform better than it did in 2015. I also expect that whoever wants to be president, either the incumbent or challenger, should challenge the process and at the end of the day, we’ll see what happens.

“The challenge for the opposition is that they have to get their acts together. I keep saying that by the end of 2012 for instance, we already knew who was going to challenge Jonathan in 2015. You can’t say the same thing today. And you need a cohesive opposition to defeat an incumbent.

We know those pretending to mount a challenge:

1. Atiku
2. Kwankwaso
3. Sowore
4. Moghalu
5. Makarfi
6. 3rd Force

The problem for them is, if all of them are joined together as one on the ballot, they can't defeat PMB, Mr. Infrastructure.

This is the Truth. And the Combination to oppose him must be fully Ibos, Yorubas, Ijaws, Tivs, Ibibios, idomas etc, because Buhari's groups are committed and hardened Almajiris, Fulani Herdsmen, Bokoharam, 46 Senators spearheaded by Abdullahi Adamu and mercenery Politicians all over the South. Buhari is determined more than ever now to prove Gowon, OBJ and IBB wrong and that he is a more tolerant Soldier than them.

Olusegun Adeniyi is one of the Buhari worshippers who would do anything for his god to stay in office.

He is merely trying to 'win' election for his god by demoralizing voters to make them feel as if Buhari's election is a fait accompli.

By 2012, Buhari had not recovered from the destabilization due to his massive defeat at the poll the previous year. As at 2012, Buhari was still crying on account of his loss.

His 'promise' to never contest any election ever again was still fresh. It wasn't until much later that his rehabilitation started; spearheaded by those who wanted to take advantage of his extreme lack of ideas to push their own interests.

It is a shame that Adeniyi is allowing himself to be used against the masses of Nigeria like he was used in the disgraceful Yaradua's health saga. He thought then that loyalty must always be to the 'their leader' instead of the masses.

Shame.

Watch out for his kind, folks. They are many. Pseudo intellectuals using their media bully pupits to control people's thoughts. It doesn't matter to them that Buhari has been tested and has been adjudged a grand failure both at home and abroad.

It doesn't matter how many Christians are killed by terrorists and Buhari's response would be an appeal to the victims to go and 'live peacefully' with people who swore that the killings wont stop until they have their way. The number of people who commit suicide across the country daily because of Buhari heartlless governance is not in his analysis. How Buhari destroyed millions of jobs due to his 9th century economic programmes is not in reckoning. The disillusioned youths being pummeled by Buhari at every opportunity don't matter to Olusegun Adeniyi.

It matters nothing to Adeniyi and his Buhari worship gang that Nigerians' last hope out of poverty and squalor that Buhari has thrown them in the last three years is the opportunity to throw him out of office through the ballot next year.

You won't even read anything connected to the underage voting and PVC problems which INEC is struggling with. He has already even declared INEC a success before the first presidential election form is sold.

He doesn't even want factor INEC's timetable for party activities and selection processes. The timetable from INEC ensures that Kayode Fayemi did not emerge as governorship candidate until two weeks ago, just two months to the July 14 election in Ekiti for example.

Alll he wants to say or what he has been asked to pass around js that no one can defeat Buhari; the kind of omnipotent features that Ademiyi thought Yaradua possessed. This is the same belief Buhari himself and his supporters have. In fact, he believes he has never lost any election but been rigged out.

That is the dangerous poison Adeniyi is passing around. Because by the time Buhari is massively defeated next year, his worshippers would not agree that he lost squarely. A repeat of 2011 can best be imagined.
