Ubiquti Home Server/network Help by casydigital(m): 3:04pm On May 19, 2018
hello guys please i have my house with my family up to 10 and all are heavy internet users , i am currently on track to install a full home network and be like a WISP to them using ubiqiuiti unifi system, my question is if i am to use spectranet as my ISP for the modem , is it possible for me to use a nano beam on top my house as a receiver for the spectranet modem as this would make me have very high signal strength ? please will appreciate your help on this question thanks

Obviously, you know nothing about wifi set up. The nano beam you intend to start with might not be the required device for your kind of set up. You need to do a survey on the locations that are a priority in the building and spot out the wifi dead zones. Proper planning or settle for whatever you get

yea i true dont have professional knowledge on wifi , but ive got some similar setup done for a friend , although he uses spectranet without the option of the beams am talking about , because the signal is very strong so no need for that , i just used the spectranet connected it to ubiquiti usg then connected an ubiquiti switch to it then used ether cables to connect the Access points to the switch which i put in various strategic points so he was getting full wifi connection everywhere in his home , but my own case is that i dont get good spectranet signal , so i need a bridge that can get me that signal , i hope i made sense grin

NOTE: i just do these by learning from youtube videos

Follow your fiends setup and see if it works. Bringing in a bridge will leave you with dead zones all over where you intend to cover. Use a bridge if you only need to bring the main internet supply close to your buiding. It will work but it might be more challenging than what your friend has.

Exactly. Op, use your friends setup. If it doesn't work then bring in the bridge

yes that is actually what i meant , i want to bring in the main internet from the isp closer to my house , like the best connection is like 20 km away from my place , so i need to draw that signal closer

this is 5GHz will they work ? and this model is isolated so like similar signals wont interfere with the signal

5ghz are ideal when you trying to isolate your equipment in crowded spectral space. If distance coverage is a priority, 2.4 does better. A lot of RF planners will tell u to go with 5 but take note of the limitations as your siganals go further. 20km is not beans. Good luck.
