To be honest, Obiano knows what Anambra needs and he is pushing towards that....No sector or town is left out even Nzam. I thank Okwute for picking Akpokuedike and I hope Soludo or Mark Okoye takes over and after that Chidoka comes in. Omanbala bu Ijele! |

Obiano must devise strategic means of solving the housing shortage problem through launching new multi-story housing layouts Anambra state government must as a matter of urgency open up at least three or four new layouts for high density multi-storey apartment housing estates such as Awada in the three major cities of the state. Two in Onitsha perhaps one around Nkwelle Ezunaka and another in Oba. One in Awka and one in Nnewi. Anambra must seriously think about solving the acute shortage of accommodation with encouraging the building of multi-storey apartments. That is how countries like China and India managed to house everyone decently. The craze for duplexes is not sustainable due to scarcity of land. We cannot afford to have everybody living in duplexes. There just isn't enough land for that type of housing in the long haul. Government will regulate the types of houses in this new estate and ensure there is provision for amenities and adequate parking. The best system is to use the ground floor for residents parking as in the picture, That way, people can still live comfortably in these flats. We should move away from making multistorey buildings without provision for residents parking space.

oneeast2:What is most annoying about this bridge is how it is potrayed as something being done for Anambra. Delta state is also benefiting if you look at it. So why is it skewed to appear as Anambra, we are building bridge for una?? |
| Re: Update on developments in Anambra state-photos by Ofodirinwa: 4:05am On May 20, 2018 |
ChimaAdeoye:As private citizens build these by the hundreds in Anambra, you now want the government to come in and join them? So that the government will be collecting rent, fixing toilets, and settling renters disputes? How many new staff and resources will have to be thrown into government managed apartments which our already inflated governments? Awada is almost 90% multistory apartments, why should the government come and add it's own? Those projects in India and China lead to the development of slums. |
| Re: Update on developments in Anambra state-photos by Ofodirinwa: 4:14am On May 20, 2018 |
Here's something we don't do often. What if instead of the government trying to jump into things the private sector is already doing (building houses, taxi services, building companies, building factories, churches, starting farms etc), we take 1/4th the money government wastes in those 1 administration projects and support people in the private sector that are already doing those things? If it cost 4 Naira to build a multistory apartment, why not find someone that's already building one and give him a grant of 1 naira to make it world class and a little taller to fit more people? When I see governments bragging about how much they're spending on things and people on here clapping for them if it's expensive I weep. Newspapers backing the ignorance with 'Obiano SPLASH $1.5 on village toilet' 'Okorocha's roundabout GULPS 70.8 million naira'. They always choose the most annoying synonyms for waste possible. And this is suppose to be a good thing. I like how Obi privatized the schools and uses less than half the money it took maintaining them to equip them. Lets get government out of the business of being a businessman |

Ofodirinwa:Oga, Please learn to read rather than jumping to conclusions just after the headline. Nobody asked government to build anything. Not even a bungalow. All government needs to do is to map out the area to ensure the location is along a major road to forestall traffic. They will also ensure the estate is planned so that a repeat of Awada isn't the result when people are left to build randomly. In other countries where high density areas are planned, it doesn't look like ghettos the way it looks in Nigeria due to lack of adequate planning. |

Anambra state government must as a matter of urgency open up at least three or four new layouts for high density multi-storey apartment housing estates such as Awada in the three major cities of the state. So you're referring to the government just planning it? That's better then, I agree. Awada can be very livable, legendary even, if the government is willing to enforce standards but the vision isn't there yet. There's little difference between most european cities and Awada except we're tacky and don't build with taste of quality of life in mind. Awada's density can make for a beautiful neighborhood if standards and quality control were enforced. |

Works Minister Fashola Visits Obiano, Assures On Delivery Of Federal Projects 20 MAY 2018 The State Government is to construct a super Interchange by Revenue House/Eze-uzu Junction, Agu-Awka. Governor Willie Obiano revealed this when he received the Minister of Works, Power and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, at the Governor's Lodge, Amawbia. Mr. Fashola was in the State on a one-day working visit to inspect ongoing Federal Government Projects across the state. Speaking after a close-door meeting with the Minister, Governor Obiano explained that the Interchange was designed to ease traffic and reduce accidents that occur frequently around the area. He further revealed that during the meeting, he asked specific questions on the progress of work on the second Niger Bridge and the Onitsha-Enugu Expressway especially the very bad Umunya to Amawbia axis as well as on the refund of the over fifty billion naira owed the State on Federal Road works. The Governor expressed happiness that the Minister gave the assurance that, things will be done differently this time, adding that Ndi Anambra are desirous of visible Federal presence in the State. Responding, Mr. Fashola congratulated Governor Obiano for a well-deserved reelection which he acknowledged was as a result of his good stewardship. He noted that the visit was a follow up on an appeal made by Governor Obiano during his visit last year for immediate intervention on Federal Government projects in the State, adding that as a result, the Federal Government has awarded the reconstruction of Umunya to Amawbia axis of the Enugu-Onitsha expressway. According to him, the contractor had been fully mobilized to site and visible work will soon commence. He noted that the Federal Ministry of Works will subject the proposed Interchange to analysis, assuring that as long as it commits to saving lives and the Federal Highway Laws, the Federal Government will collaborate with the State to bring it to fruition. On the second Niger Bridge, Mr. Fashola promised that the present Federal Government is committed to delivering the project but solicited the assistance of Anambra and Delta State Governments in dealing with the issue of heavy claims by communities whose lands were used for the project which according to him, is presently at about five billion naira. http://www.absradiotv.com/11596-works-minister-fashola-visits-obiano-assures-on-delivery-of-federal-projects#.WwD-tiUPwp0.facebook

ANSMEDIA:The state government should convert federal debt on Onitsha-Enugu expressway into bonds or interest yielding investment of some kind then use the annual interest to complete the road. For example the 48 billion owed by the FGN should yield 5 billion a year if issued as treasury bills. The ANSG can use that to fix at least one third of the 18 kilometer expressway between Umunya and Amawbia. |

The Federal Government, yesterday, gave marching order to the contractor handling the construction of late Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe Mausoleum. Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola, gave the marching order when he inspected the Zik Mausoleum at the Zik’s Roundabout, Onitsha, Anambra state. Fashola said the contract has to be completed in October 2018, adding that failure to complete it, he will personally remove the contractor from the site. Fashola reiterated the marching order during a courtesy visit to the Governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano, at the Government House in Awka. But the Project Manager, Mr John Ameh, who spoke at the site, said the project will be completed as directed by the minister, adding that the work is almost…
