Most of Nigeria cities with their rusted ironsheet roofing look at lot like Kibera. Kibera is being upgraded and also roads & public toilets are being provided. Makoko I think is the worst..

Typical Kibera - has clean piped albeit illegal water, mostly legal electricity 24-7s, some tarmac road and are close to cbd. This way better than middle class in Nigeria who doesn't get any of that.

Somalia is their motherland they can always identify with ancestral homeland. Its true there are many Somali immigrants in Eastleigh, especially illegal ones. Just to get a guaranteed business asset because Eastleigh is in many ways the safest place Somalis can invest. You find property worth 10 or 20 million the guy purchases it at something like 100 million and over. Just to kick out any competition. Not your usual demand-supply economics. Nothing is affluent about Eastleigh, the thing is that there are thousands and thousands of businesses going on which get taxed and give a lot of money to the city. And they all revolve around a few common things, apparel especially.
