Anyway this is Nigeria.

The officers acted professionally under the circumstances. They did not shoot at the driver but the tyre of the lorry.
Trailing the lorry sounds great to the uninitiated but then it's important to note that many officers have lost their lives during such escapades.
The erring driver should have been the focus in more civilized society but often our mindsets will hardly allow us look beyond our noses.
What we believed to be rice might be light/heavy
firearms being smuggled in right under our noses.

How can they shoot a civilian vehicle that is clearly carrying passengers on the main road, then causing multiple accidents or even deaths?

The customs officers should have all been locked inside their vehicle then set ablaze!

I love my Oron people, we believe in actions speaks louder than words!

With the way stupid, corrupt uniform men are behaving like we are in a lawless society- very soon the masses will fight back. The government should be ready, since they're turning a blind eye to the misbehavior of uniform men.

Akwa Ibom is also a border state, from Oron town you can go to Cameroon via water of course.

The stupid customs officers opened fire in public, blasting the truck's tires which led to it hitting people off the road, injuring a lot of school children and hawkers and even bike men. Imagine?
Instead of the stupid customs officers to pursue the truck instead?
I wish the whole of Nigeria can respond to uniform men's misbehavior like this. That way the Government will be forced to check things.

for custom offices to do what? Arrest them abi and then they'll take the rice and share amongst themselves? If the government had provided jobs will these people be smuggling everything? They are only helping themselves since the government cannot help them.

And where did they say in any paramilitary act to cause danger and loss of lives within ur duty, they should have either followed the suspect gegely or notify the next check point? The officers should be jailed and dismissed

If they trail the trailer and call for backup or involve other security agent, are you trying to tell me that the trailer will develop wings and fly or will escape from Akwa ibom to another state when roads must have been block?

In situation like this you try to minimise your risk, you don't just open fire in public and I believe the trailer driver will be in full speed trying to evade arrest.

Akwa ibom shares a border with Cameroon via the Atlantic Ocean.It is a corridor for the smuggling of rice and timber.
From the story it can be deduced that the smugglers didn't settle that's why if was shot at.
