The Benin Empire was a very powerful kingdom in colonial times yet it had just a few population and little geographical spread. This has, until this day, not affected their cultural prestige and rich history. On what basis then should anyone deem Hausa, Igbo or Yoruba to be more important than Bini?

The Bini example is a bad application. Contact with Bini was done by a league of explorers that earned pay from their writings. Much of what they wrote cannot be substantiated on the ground. The Imperial power they ascribed in publication is not translated to domain authorities on the ground.
How much of what is blogged today is a true representation of reality, less than half. But bloggers earn money. The reward incent them to produce more colorful and sensational reporting that appeals to consumers (traffic). The traffic translates to money. Linda Ikeji has built a mansion simply from sensational but not truthful reporting. People make money reporting on Kardashians living a plastic life while the likes of Ngozi Iweala, with far more credibility and credentials, are not even household names across West Africa, much more the globe. Its an old practice. Benin was the appeal back then but not the best nor a super power amongst kingdoms of the South.

When King Kosoko waged war against British the Idejo Chiefs, Aworis, vacated town. They left town for the king and his Abagbon chiefs to defend. They said by tradition they do not fight wars.

So who did Ashipa fight in early 1600 when he setled Lagos....and why did he have to ask for land from Aromire if indeed Benin conquered Lagos?

Historians are missing the point. 1600s was the period that Dahomey was waging wars on Egba, Borgu, Oyo.

Dahomey sought to control trade and commerce routes. The Egbas, the Ijebus, Popos tolled the routes between the coast and hinterland. Dahomey wanted to dominate the coastal line all way to Mahin, the popular salt mine under Ijebu control.

This was part of their reason for wars with Egba but the Egbas were not marine society. So Dahomey would steal through Whydah via the Lagoon and penetrate to Lagos. They were raiding farms in Lagos to feed and also generate revenue for their armies.

Request for help could not be met by Oyo because the Oyo horses would not survive the forest conditions. Request was sent to Benin. Benin, like Egba, does not have water navigation skills or naval skills. Benin did not travel over land to Lagos.

So how did Benin get to Lagos through waters?

Who did they fight in Lagos?

Why is Ashipa asking Aromire for land if indeed he was a conqueror?

Why did Ijebu allow Benin passage through its waters?

We dont need to stick to the Yoruba position to prove our point.

We can bring the Itsekiri position and they will tell you Bini have roots in Ife.

We can bring the Ijaw position and they will tell your Bini have roots in Ife.

We can bring Ugbodu to talk,they will tell you Bini roots is in Ife.

We can ask all those to the West of you and they will all claim Bini have roots in Ife.

There is no time for a battle of houses Afrikans need to defeat this slumber. Let the past go. Sango only study the past for role model and examples, past solutions to issues of human life situations, how to have victory over enemies. We can ask all those to the West of you and they will all claim Bini have roots in Ife.

Even oyinbo came, saw and conquered, ask them, and they have written to conclude that Bini and all its sorrounding have roots in Ife.

Do you have anyone that can speak on your behalf to say Ife has roots in Edo? None but Edo has this story.

You have no witness. We can bring the whole world to witness for us.

All these people you called will tell you that they themselves came out of Benin..
Its only the current monarchy you lay claim to and say came from Ife, but the origin of that monarchy in Ife itself is from Edo.. and the whole world will tell you that too.
Also the whole world will tell you that Yorubas are not indigenous to West Africa, you guys don't belong here.. Only God knows where you migrated from.

Anyways I will continue to stress this that; Benin Kingdom and Edo people's military conquest and ruler over Yoruba lands is fully documented and archived. You cannot change history.. Your future generations will read about it too, and their generations too..
They will read how a small group of Edo people organized themselves and built the mightiest kingdom and empire and led by a powerful King, a conquering lion, they conquered far and wide.. Conquered and subjugated the Yoruba race.. They will read how many Yoruba kingdoms crumbled before this mighty Benin Kingdom and how we established cities in your lands and set up monarchies for you.
It is all stored in archives for your future generation to read. and if your future generations choose to act like you guys, deluded and denying history, Edo future generation will be there to torment them with the truth.
So you see, there is no escaping from the truth.
