Obalufon:I told you, you are all over the thread making up stories, first you said Benin was the last place to be contacted by the Europeans, now you claimed Benin was the first hinter land kingdom to be contacted, which is which, I hope you are not like this in real life. |

Obalufon:I'm thinking you secretly yearn for knowledge so I will freely educate you a little on this before I go back to tormenting you. Prior to visiting Western Africa the Europeans had been in contact with North Africans and Arabs and it was from them they heard about a people/culture (and great kingdoms) existing in tropical (rain forest) West Africa. The Portuguese explorers got permission from their King to navigate and chart the unknown African region. So starting from North Africa coast the explorers sailed along the coastal line of Africa to the West and finally they arrived at Benin Kingdom. Benin Kingdom was the first place they landed in the area now known as Nigeria. and FYI trading didnt immediately begin when they landed. When they came they met the Itsekiris who were living closest to where their ship docked, and as normal with every visit to a new place they inquired who their ruler was.. The Itsekiris directed them to their capital Benin City where the great King resides.. and the rest is history. |
| Re: Oba Of Benin Visits Ooni Of Ife by KingSango(m): 8:18pm On Jun 03, 2018 |
davidnazee:The ruler of Itsekiris not Oyo and from what I gather the Benin King wasn't ruler of Ife either. So what's your point? |
| Re: Oba Of Benin Visits Ooni Of Ife by davidnazee: 8:21pm On Jun 03, 2018 |
KingSango:King Sango what are you talking about? Did I say ruler of Ife when the Europeans came was the Oba of Benin? The ruler of the Itsekiris was the Oba of Benin and till today He still is the Overlord in that region. |

KingSango:Very wrong information. Oramfe was & is still Ife’s god of fire, thunder and lightening. Ife did not worship Sango or recognize him as sugch until contacts with immigrants from Oyo dependent towns under Ilorin attack. |

davidnazee:As long as you are talking Oba of Benin ruling over Itsekiris not Oyo and Ife. ![]() Small groups can come under the rulership of another more powerful group, what's the harm in this? There was no slavery like chattel slavery European inflicted upon Afrikans in the West. What are you guys beefing about? Ancient Nigerian history that none of you lived and none of your grandparents. All this stuff is so long, long, long ago. Who cares? Benin is a great empire yet so is Oyo, Dahomey and Fulani. I don't get the back and forth, that's woman behavior yet I don't see the women partaking in such wasteful use of energy only men. ![]() Ase Love Sango |

davidnazee:Yes,Portuguese got to Lagos around 1470s and they met Aworis . And Portuguese got to Edo around 1485 . Stop feeling sorry for yourself. Bloody set of Edo liars. |
| Re: Oba Of Benin Visits Ooni Of Ife by davidnazee: 8:42pm On Jun 03, 2018 |
KingSango:It’s your Yoruba brethrens that refuse to acknowledge that Benin was a great and mighty Empire.. Benin didn’t rule over Ife, nor did it rule over Oyo. But Benin ruled over most of Eastern Yoruba and shared boundaries with Oyo kingdom.. Benin also saw the birth of Oyo and the end too.. Benin was the only independent African kingdom till the end of the 19th century when it was subdued by the British forces.. As for slavery Benin didn’t engage in slavery but Oyo was the master of slavery selling almost all Yorubas in its territory into slavery.. Benin was a great Kingdom that survived time while others fell it stood.. |

davidnazee:Oyo only sold captured warriors into slavery from Dahomey. It was Dahomey that raided the corridor that exists between Oyo state and the nation of Benin Repulic where lies Yorubas there persecuted by Dahomey/Fon slave raiders. Yorubas were sold by Dahomey not Oyo. It was a practice to enslave captured warriors so they just sold them to Europeans. Oyo Empire didn't end it still exists yet like Benin Empire both came under the tyranny of British. Let's not forget who our real enemies are in the real sense. You guys make too much of old rivalries that the Nigerian Independence put an end too! Stop digging up old bones. Ase Love Sango |

samuk:Mr. what are you even informing on? Have you no knowledge that Bini was landlocked? The Itsekiri was the link way between Bini and Portuguese, simply because of pepper before ivory, sculputure work etc.... |

samuk:Who is on contradictory lane if not you Edo people? You claimed Oba means ‘shiny' in Edo but Omo nor Oba said Oranmiyan imported the word from Yoruba land . Some of you claim ,there are no Yoruba people or settlement in Akoko Edo yet we have seen full blooded words that aren't in Bini lexicon nor names. such as Akerele, Bayo, Tosin, etc . Perhaps, Yorubas are wrong, Kindly help us find the etymology of Ikiran Ilé and Ikiran Okè in Bini lexicons. How did Ilé and Okè became Bini words for description of a settlement? ![]() |

KingSango:You just made me burst into laughter . Do you know they condemned Jacob Egharevba's work on history of Bini just to save face? Simply because, it became an embarrassment to Edos that their most revered king was a Yoruba man! ![]() |
