Herrmes: Yes it's all over Nigeria but The point here is that Akwa Ibom state is highly Rich and well funded. They should be some level of development in public schools. Do you leave in Lagos State? Even some rich men send their children to public schools here in Lagos State. Lagos State govt to some extent paid attention to public schools. 1 Like |

CodeTemplar:You ar talking in an ideal situation. Go and find out how much was budgeted and ridiculously looted in the name of upgrading those schools. You will be shocked those schools consume more funds on paper than their private counterparts. They can also charge to make the schools better. For example a medium private school with 30k fee per term, the state government can comfortably provide at least 50% subsidy especially factoring out teachers' r enumeration which the government already sponsor. Of it ensures proper management in such a way that the public schools compete with the private in whatever way, people will immediately transfer their kids. There is a similar story in Kenya (or Uganda) I think where public schools are turning out to be better than private schools and it didn't take too much funds like you are insinuating. Please let's stop finding excuse for our failure. 2 Likes 1 Share |

EazyMoh:You can say it isn't expensive but education isn't as cheap as you make it sounds also. I acknowledge the mismanagement part also but believe me, if govt tries to subsidize it to the level the average man can afford it, then they may end up reducing the number of slots available for prospective students. How many salary earning parents can afford N30k per term for 2 kids (N180K) every year? What about taxpaying artisans who survive on less than $100/month ? |

SmartPolician: Oga, you need the rest more. What has accent got to do with the topic? Where are you from? where were you born? Do you have problem with an Hausa man who grew up in Sokoto speak? Even the president of this country is with his own accent. Go to Ibadan, Oyo, Ife, Akure, Ondo, and some other part of SW especially those that have been living all their lives there and try to evaluate their spoken English. Even in the SE, a business tycoon who's in charge of multimillionaire businesses has his own accent. JayJay Okocha n Papilo even after spending several years abroad still speak igboish English. Let's be tolerant and respect people the way God made them. 3 Likes |

let Government do their bit I am sure if you look through the country you would notice that even the least expensive private school is still better run than the government best schools In Government schools Teachers do not report to duty on time, they have laissez-faire attitude etc |

romme2u: Noted but I doubt this situation can be all his fault. Hes only been there three years. I agree with your point about Inter-Ministerial Committee. He cut education budget as well due to economic constraints. In previous articles the author mentioned the amount budgeted for school rennovation and education. How much cash was released in both years for that purpose. Samuel Efuo, a lawmaker and Chairman, Ibom State House of Assembly Committee on Education, says the problem is partly due to poor contract administration by the Inter-Ministerial Direct Labour Committee saddled with the responsibility of finding quick-fix solutions to the infrastructural deficits in the social sector in the state. What these state law makers have done about it I dont know. Five hundred million and N450 million was budgeted for the sector in 2014 and 2015 respectively for the renovation and refurbishing of buildings, including the provision of facilities, in 124 secondary and primary schools in the state. |

Zionista: These guys are a slow bunch its sad really. The author of the story is Cletus Ukpong who is from Akwa Ibom. This explains why he choose to write his report when he recieves grant from foreign sponsors. He's on facebook if the really want to find him. The poor. Should respond adequately.. Cut down on child birth. No poor man should go pass two kids..let the third one come accidentally and there should be no fourth. If you have just two kids, it may never get so extremely bad for you as couples. Your child kids could make a middle class school. If not the top but certainly not the rock bottom no chairs and tables schools. |

Blue3k2:You really know nothing about Aks, even the Abak GTC you're posting was renovated 3 years or so ago alongside Mainland G Technical C and the one in Uyo. But no, it's that one you will see. Those schools you posted were probably abandoned due to natural causes like low patronage from locals, so the next popular government school closer will have a better facility because it's more used. You didn't mention the thousands of facilities Akpabio built for abak people, even that bridge linking abak and uyo the federal government won't afford to do that kind of bridge cus of the obvious cost... Dude post pictures of uyo /Aks before and after Akpabio then I can come back and talk to your numb skull 1 Like |

macaranta: Wow the schools were abondoned due to low patronage when people are writing government to renovate them. You political prostitutes can lie. Akpabio built thousands of projects for Abak aswell but you dont have on picture to present hmm interesting. I gave you one challenge to dhow great public schools your kids go to or something but you chicked out political prostitute. The Abak School was renovated 3 years ago and it looks like that? Wow these guys are working indeed. A state as rich as Akwa Ibom and with some of the biggest budgets and that's all you can say. I understand why you wont send you kid to public school after all. |
