Solo learn is good. But I would really urge you to get a laptop. It's not compulsory to buy a new one. With 60k, you'd get a decent fairly used laptop that will last you a number of years.

Anyone else following the election in Ontario. Not looking good for the Liberal party so far.

Modified:

The Conservatives win the majority seat. They have a very high chance of forming the government in Alberta next year

I wonder if this result would have an effect on next year federal election.

Did you ask if you would be charged ATM fees when you withdraw from a different bank's ATM?
ATB has very few ATMs/Branches. I would be suprised if they have up to 50 ATM terminals all over calgary. Good news is that cash as a means of transaction is no longer common, so it might still be a good or the better deal.

Fair Point u made Salford. I did ask. But i generally think for any bank, you get charged whenever you use any another bank’s ATM in Canada. I stand to be corrected tho. Theirs is 3 dollars but i get reimbursed for up to 3 transactions a month for the account type i picked. Plus dem nak me free 30 dollars for signing up. . Not sure about their branch network but there are two branches around me. One is a 5 min walk. Other is like a 6-7 min drive. And like i said generally, its all about what works for you individually when picking a bank account not by name. I personally intend to register a business name and might need a Line of Credit for support soon. ATB offered me at 7% with far flexible terms. CIBC offered at 13%. And BMO were speaking one grammar i didnt understand. So its all about what works for people personally when choosing bank accounts. So i urge everyone to do their research and look at all the banks and their products critically to see what fits their personal needs. My view

From all indications, especially over here in BC, the liberals have really fallen out of favour. Trumpism isnt helping matters. The older immigrants (as I choose to call the early white European settlers here) are beginning to lose all reservations about showing animosity to the influx of foreigners . I advice anyone considering this express entry stuff to make hay while the sun (trudeau) still shines

You are correct, one would get charged $3 for using a different bank's ATM. Since you have an ATB close to you. You are good to go. Unlike the bigger banks, that 7% would be hard to beat because ATB kind of run like a credit union.

Some people myself inclusive dislike trump but cant deny the fact that the man is creating jobs and lots of it in the US. I won't be shocked if he gets re-elected.

The Liberal are almost not existent in Alberta and Saskatchewan. Albertans can hardly wait to kick the Notley and the NDP out next May. Manitoba is Conservative too. With the addition of Ontario, that is four solid provinces in the pocket of the Conservatives. The Animosity grew with the Federal Liberal's handling of the refugee crisis, high taxes to fund social services, carbon tax etc. It also kind of smeared their reputation across provinces to an extent.

Even the millenials are turning away from the liberal party. Trudeur's fine boy charm no longer works like it used to. If the conservatives get into federal power, they would definitely reduce the number of all classes of immigrants, so anyone thinking of migrating should do so asap. The result from Ontario's election is highly embarrassing for the Liberal party. It was a tsunami.

Thanks for this. If I may ask. Have you written yours? In Nigeria or Canada? How was the 2 exams? How many months on the average do you need to use to prepare for it?

MrsWoman:
I am very old school, I like to read from paper so i bought the value pack with the textbook. It was helpful. After reading the textbook, i attempted all the practice questions and exams, that kinda prepared me and i was able to find out the areas i needed to work on before taking the exams.

Please be careful with whoever you use in changing your naira to CAD (including bureau de change). We (my family) are currently still accused persons in a fraud case over the money we money we bought from a bureau de change in lagos which was transferred to our canadian account. Apparently, some yahoo boys defrauded some Canadian lady and unknown to us, we bought the money.

This is not too good. I hope your defense is solid, backed up with evidences ( receipts et all). Good-a-thing the judicial system there is transparent and effective, unlike Nigerian judicial system. You'll soon be vindicated without a deep burn through your pockets. Amen!

Do you have your PR Card already?...the PR rules is easy its 2 out of 5 years..you have to stay in canada for 2 years in total out of the 5 years to renew your PR, else your PR can be withdrawn..so you still have lots of time.

Yes that makes you eligible, but you have to reapply for PR so you get another 5 years instead of applying for citizenship.

Hi everyone. Quick question regarding the drivers licence (DL) authentication letter from the Nigerian embassy in Ottawa.

So my naija DL is expired. The drive test centres in Ontario require a valid DL to award me experience credits.

My question is, if I renew my DL and send it off to be authenticated by the Nigerian embassy in Ottawa, will the authentication letter include the years of experience from my expired DL?

Thanks.

Hian, even if she must write, which isn't even necessary, then it is the General option. Not Academic.

International English Language Testing System (IELTS), general training, not the academic version You must have a score of:
4.0 or higher in speaking and
4.5 or higher in listening. (Note: If the test was done before November 28, 2008, we will accept a level 4 or higher)

gasplant:

I'd advice you write the IELTS, Academic in particular. I am in same situation and my wife is going to write. You never can know where you would need it. It's better you do that now and get it done with while you are still here, when you get there, you may have less time on your hands

Hope this helps!

Donald Trump is doing well but not as well as he thinks he is doing. Obama's worst year throughout his Presidency was the first year and that was because the economy was in a recession. Over his next 7 years, the man practically shined.
When people say Trump is creating jobs, it has to be put into context. From experience, I know that data at first glance does not reveal hidden truths until it is critically examined and put into context.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/fact-checker/wp/2017/12/14/comparing-the-trump-economy-to-the-obama-economy/?utm_term=.f4a69e811efe

For instance, Trump has largely taken credit for the rise in the stock market but people who observe the market know that once the big guys (Microsoft, Facebook, Google, Amazon) and co declare their quarterly earnings and surpass their earning projections, then the market reacts.
Recall that Apple declared profits shy of its estimation last year and it's stock price took a hit. I really wished I was in the US during that time. If I was, I would have bought a lot of Apple stock. That same Apple stock that took a hit less than a year ago had now bounced back when Apple declared it's annual earnings.

Do you know that the Department of Homeland Security cancelled the Entrepreneurship visa policy of the Obama administration last week? That announcement also introduced more stringent rules to people who have class L and M visas?

Trump getting re-elected is a long shot as Democrats have been winning most of the elections in most states (even the so-called Republican states) since Trump became President.

America is experiencing its wave of populism and I guess most Americans are tired of it already. It's kinda similar to the Britons who voted in favor of Brexit but are now realizing what it truly means for them.

There are NCA exam groups on facebook that you might find helpful in terms of study materials (summary of text materials sold for a fee, online and in person tutorials).

My Dear Seniors,

I am landing at Ontario in a couple of days and have been thinking about the best way to show POF at port of entry. For now, I have decided to carry equivalent of C$9000 in USD and then have the balance POF as USD in my Dom. account with a debit card and internet banking access to it. Also, I have printed 6 months account statement of the Dom. account as further evidence of the balance.

Please from your experience, will above be sufficient in the worst case scenario or do I take the risk of carrying everything as cash?

Would hugely appreciate your responses.

Thank you in advance.

This is a good way to enter the country and it will be adequate to establish sufficient POF if you are asked. I wish you a safe trip and a pleasant welcome in advance.

Unfortunately, not everyone knows economics indept.

From late last year till present, there have been many reports about how unemployment claims fall to the lowest in 40 years, US employment rate falls to lowest in 10 years, US employment rate falls to lowest since 2000 etc....
This is the news people are being bormbarded with in the US and Canada.

There are truths and there are half truths. Those headlines are click baits; because news must be packaged to make the viewer want to watch.

I have followed the Trump administration well and watched a lot of interviews by people in the economic or media team. Most of them become speechless or tongue tied when confronted with the hard facts about the economy under Trump's admin viz-a-viz the economy under the Obama admin.

The truth that they would not admit publicly is that the Obama administration did a fantastic job on the economy. He may not have been great at foreign policies but when it comes to the economy, Obama was A+.

And we all know that the full blown effects of policies don't manifest in 12 calendar months. Well, I guess being in the US or Canada is not an antidote to ignorance and misinformation

I don't know about you guys but I was more than pleased when it became certain last week that Kathleen Wynne would lose the Ontario elections. The results from yesterday was the icing on the cake. Enough of the Liberals abeg, it will take decades to undo the damage they have done to the province as a whole all in the name of progress and development.

We are not there yet but I think people are slowly realizing that much that is touted as progress by Liberal ideology results in the reverse. See Kathleen's province wide minimum wage hike early in the year; that was presented as something that would help the economy and improve the lives of low income earners. The result of that was that the cost of goods and services rose as businesses looked for ways to offset the increased labor expenses. The help to the low income earners was merely cosmetic; all they saw was a bigger paycheck that didn't result in more purchasing power. In my estimation that was enough of a reason that Kathleen would the elections in Ontario. Still, there are other reasons even more insidious that Liberals were voted out, one of which is their view and policy towards the traditional family structure. . .

I look forward to the day when Liberals with their Disney princess, Justin Trudeau, are kicked out on the federal level. grin

These reports weren't just click bait as major media houses have been the one reporting jobs creation backed up by statistics, including the same Washington post you used as a reference in one of your post above. You might want to google reports on job creation in the US.

Except major media houses like the washington post, reuters, cbc, bbc, financial times e.t.c are all ignorant.

And the original post was not about Obama though. I don't think Obama was the president of the USA 17years or 40 years ago. Just talking about the trump effect in Canada mentioned in an earlier post.

The defeat in Ontario was so bad that they lost their party status. The believe here in the west is that Ontario was a liberal strong hold. Trudeau is still not ready. I am actually suprised he paid over $4Billion for that pipeline considering the fact that he is anti-oilsand
That move was a bad political move in my opinion.

He took a risk which wasn't well planned. The money paid for the pipeline won't stop the prairie from delivering their block vote to the Conservative in the next election. His action has also caused some liberal and green voters to switch allegiance.

The minimum wage hike by Kathleen was a wrong move too. Employers just reduced hours and became more lean with the operations of their business. The hysteria quickly died down.
