Only Efiks can get employed through this loophole. There are more ethnic groups (totally different) in Cross River than Akwa Ibom. Even the Efiks can be detected if the recruitment process is thorough.

Apologies, but this bill if signed will be a nonsensical one. Most folks in the state, I've to say, lack simple work ethic! As simple as it's, it's lacking. Last I checked, businesses don't employ based on sentiments (except ailing businesses. Which is why there are ailing). The bill is ridiculous!

This bill would be counterproductive

It'll deepen tribalism across board and also Aks government should remember that their indigenes are elsewhere outside Akwaibom working.

If they should implement it, other states will follow suit and kick out their people.

Most companies might avoid coming to Akwaibom to invest because of this law.

The government should reconsider.... Instead the people should grab the indirect opportunities created by investors entering the state to their advantage rather than waiting for undue entitlements which will NEVER come

This is a stûpid bill. What if the indigenes lack the experience which is obviously the most important for most companies? That means extra cost in training while the government doesn't provide any incentive for the companies. If i were an investor because of this bill i will stay clear from Akwa Ibom and just invest in the neighboring state like Calabar instead.

In UK to hire a foreigner, you have to get a permit from government and proof that you can't find anyone within the country that possess that skills to do that job. The should also be a National database for all the unemployed with access to their CV's so employers can easily checkup for these people and government can provide jobs more easily to Nigerians.

Actually, the Lagos law restricts those who do not have a credit in Yoruba. So even those who are fluent in Yoruba, but do not have a credit in Yoruba, do not need to apply to attend LASU (Lagos State University).

I don't like this kind of law. It;s tantamount to just dividing the country, so that everyone can rest. Instead of this, why not compel companies to to employ people who have lived in the state for at least 2 years because these people are also contributing to the state through taxes.

This will not be successful because such laws fall under the Exclusive List, i.e. only the FG can make such law. Besides, this will create tribalism, favoritism and nepotism.

Do not compare this law to the one in the UK. The UK does not discriminate among their citizens. The UK comprises four countries: England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Island. Any person from any of these four countries is treated equally in all respect.

I have lived in the UK for more than 15 years now and have not filled a form where I am asked of 'my state of origin'. They always ask your place of birth only, and how long you have lived in your current address.

Owing to the foregoing, I will not support the proposition of the current law in Nigeria except it discriminates against foreigners.

I wish I have the time to illustrate the effect of this bill(law), check my previous post, I have issues with it as a law, but no issues if the state makes it a policy.
On the issue of language, maybe because I'm yoruba(cultural biased), I see nothing wrong with it, however, my sis was a victim of lasu discrimination system, but we moved on, and she got a better offer in a fed sch through de.
This bill if passed into law wont have much effect on other states compared to akwaibom, do you know company might reduce the standard wage compared to what they pay their staff in other states and akwaibom cant do anything about it?
Do you know they can operate from neighbouring state and just have skeletal office in akwaibom, this will reduce the igr of the state in respect to PAYE tax?
Do you know company might force akwaibomites on their payrol to relocate back to akwaibom without providing necessary facilities nor care for the person family.
Our lawmakers(states and fg) should always think through their actions before making decisions, it's a pity most of them boast of going to law school, yet, lacks logical reasoning

Both laws do not portray Nigeria as one. You can spin it anyway, anyhow you want.
