The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, Wednesday urged Nigerian youths to refrain from involving themselves in thuggery. The monarch made the plea at the closing of this year’s preaching session at the Haliru Jummat Mosque, Kofar Kware area of Sokoto metropolis. He advised them to desist from being used by selfish politicians to cause breach of the peace in the polity.

“Youths should be vigilant and not to allow themselves to be used by unscrupulous politicians to achieve their selfish interests,” he said.

According to him, they should rather take advantage of the skill acquisition programmes introduced by governments at all levels to become self reliant. The monarch admonished Islamic preachers in the country to always speak the truth to political leaders without any fear in order to move the country forward.

He said this would no doubt assist them greatly in steering the affairs of the country.

The Sultan to this end, enjoined Muslims to remain committed towards the development of Islam.

He also admonished them to put into practice what they have learnt during the Ramadan fast.

He therefore called on wealthy individuals to always endeavour to assist the needy so as to ensure peace and understanding in the society.
