Another article by an afonja. There is no real problem between Igbos and Yoruba except Yoruba envy of Igbo...THAT'S IT. Igbo have never done anything evil to yoruba....never! Yoruba has been the one committing all sorts of evil on Igbos out of envy. Take for instance after the colonial whites left Nigeria, Igbo dominated virtually every government agency and institution in Nigeria by merit, this was what brought the fear and hate for Igbos, and soon Hausa-Fulani and Yoruba saw Igbos as a threat to their survival. One way to verfy this is just watch the video of Saraduna of Sokoto; that video was taped before the civil war and before the 1966 coup; in case they want to use the coup as the reason why Igbos are hated even though majority of the actors were Yorubas. That video alone by Sarduna should make it clear the Igbo hate started way before the civil war and 1966 coup. PURELY OUT OF ENVY AND JEALOUSY!

Back to my point how did Hausa-Fulani deceive Awolowo to support them to massacre Igbos? They told him...see, Igbos dominate every institution in this country, including institutions in SW, since they cannot compete with Igbos NATURALLY, that the only way for them to catch up with Igbos or move ahead them is by sabotaging and destroying them. Awolowo immediately agree, that's why despite killing millions of Igbos during the war via starvation, he went as further as expropriating Igbo wealth and used it to fund scholarships for their kinsmen to catch up with Igbo. But as God would have it despite his wicked evil plans working for 20 yrs after the war, the Igbos as God chosen people have since recovered and taken their rightful positions back, not only as the most educated but also most successful by a large margin away from Yorubas, who have also been passed by SS.

So stop these lies about Igbo vs Yoruba. Igbo have nothing against yoruba, even despite yoruba killing millions of their own and expropriating their wealth, they never revenged, but slowly work their way back up to their rightful position. Another way to see this is since 1960 Igbos have fighting to stay on their own to stop this yoruba vs Igbo tension, but ironically Yoruba don't want to leave Igbos alone, they want Igbos in Nigeria with them. So, who is the one looking for trouble? To me, it's yoruba!

The thread is good. The Conclusion is just fair. The Igbos agitated wrongly first to secede and have been failing to get it. The Ohanase, The Igbo Youths Forum and The Igbo Elders Forum also introduced RESTRUCTURING, a process whereby every State of Nigeria will be fully autonomous and Self-Governing on Internal Security, Resources and Electioneering Controls.
Ajasin took over from Awolowo. His group, The Afenifere, The Yoruba Youths group, The Yoruba Elders Forum all now seriously support RESTRUCTURING ON OR BEFORE 2019 ELECTION.
PLEASE, MAY I ASK, WHAT ON THIS EARTH IS PREVENTING THE IGBOS AND THE YORUBAS AND ALL THE PARTIES FROM PUTTING APPROPRIATE PRESSURES ON APC GOVERNMENT TO RESTRUCTURE NOW BEFORE 2019 ELECTION. See you later.

HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE OF HATRED
I had the privilege of attending some meetings of the Yoruba and Igbo Leaders. I was not a leader but a youth who knew how to wash his hands. At one of those meetings in Owerri, I think in 1989, I think, I listened to Uncle Bola Ige and other Yoruba Leaders take the likes of Mbakwe, R. B. Okafor and others to the cleaners when the Igbo said the Yoruba were betrayers, citing that Chief Obafemi Awolowo led them into secession with a promise that if the Igbo left Nigeria, the Yoruba would follow suit. They accused him of not following up on his promise. Trust Uncle Bola Ige! He pointed to Chief Mbakwe and said, "you were there in the meeting between Awolowo and Ojukwu as I was. Is that statement correct?".He turned to two other Igbo and two Yoruba Leaders who were at that meeting and asked the same question, saying he had transcripts of the meeting between Awolowo and Ojukwu. They kept quiet while the Yoruba Leaders affirmed that Awolowo never promised to follow the East into secession. What he said was that if the Igbo were "driven" out of Nigeria the Yoruba would take it seriously and reassess their own position. Igbo Leaders DID NOT CONTEST this version. Then Chief Bola Ige threw in the clincher! "Who are you to accuse the Yoruba of betrayal?" he roared, and continued:
1. At Independence Awolowo offered a joint government between the NCNC and AG, with Zik as Prime Minister and Awo as Finance Minister. Awo and Zik "were still negotiating" when it was announced that Zik would be President in a coalition with NPC of the North. The East then collaborated in destroying the West and sending Awolowo and his leutenants to jail!
2. What of the 1965 elections which the West and the East agreed to boycott? We met all night and reached agreement about 3am on the day of the election. In the morning, while the Yoruba boycotted the election, the Igbo went to vote
3. After the 1979 elections Yoruba (UPN) and Igbo (APP?) Leaders were still at the negotiating table for a coalition when to their surprise, an announcement was heard that the Igbo (APP) had agreed to a coalition with the North (NPN)
4. After the 1983 elections, 1979 repeated itself. Not giving up, Awolowo reached out to Azikiwe again for cooperation. Talks started and they met in Benin where Awo pleaded passionately that only a collaboration between The Igbo and the Yoruba could save Nigeria. They didn't reach agreement but promised to meet again. Before the next meeting, the Igbo had again teamed up with the North
Uncle Bola paused and then continued "we can go on and on. So how dare you accuse the Yoruba of betrayal? How many Igbo have been killed in Lagos, Ibadan, Akure, Oshogbo (he mentioned other Yoruba towns)? You have your businesses in the West and went to Western schools. Yet you count the Yoruba as your enemy. You get killed in Kaduna, Kano, Bauchi, Zaria etc and have your goods looted yet you consider the Hausa/ Fulani your friends. It's your choice. If you want to be slaves for ever, we can't help you"
I had never been so scared in my life. I thought the roof was going to fall. There was a pin drop silence and no Igbo dared interrupt Uncle Bola Ige because he was telling the truth. The Yoruba Leaders ended the meeting at that point and left. I hope Chief C. O. Adebayo's memoirs will give more details of those exchanges.
Now to make three points from all this:
A. The Yoruba have been stretching their hand across the Niger for a handshake for a long time. The Igbo refused to take it for a long time until recently
B. Many Igbo Leaders of the 70s, 80s and 90s deliberately perpetrated the legend of Awolowo's role betraying them into the civil war and his role in prosecuting the war, to rally the Igbo population behind themselves. The Igbo agreed on Yoruba hatred than on any other issue. So it was the fabric that held them together for a long time
C. Time heals all things. Many Igbo reading this will be hearing for the first time that their leaders of old knew for a truth that Awolowo did not break his word to Ojukwu as alleged. And to think of it, EVEN IF OUR PARENTS QUARRELLED, SHOULD WE THE NEW GENERATION CONTINUE THE SAME WAY?. ITS TIME TO COME TOGETHER AND MAKE THE HANDSHAKE ACROSS THE NIGER WORK FOR THE SAKE OF OUR PEOPLES AND NIGERIA
Bros how come all your meetings didn't have any conclusion... is it that you fabricated the story or what

Personally, I am just tired of the back and forth. I have worked on enlightening yorubas about igbo hate for the past 7 years.

We have advised igbos to leave Yorubas alone and to develop their land but they never listen. The campaign of hate against Yorubas excite the igbo populace a lot. What can we do but to watch?

We just pray igbos don’t take their luck too far by attacking Yorubas offline. That will be their greatest Achilles heel.

Enough said. I don tire for igbo issue. Nigerians are enjoying Sallah holiday. No time for hate.

It is becoming too old that Yari.ba peeps still come out with nonsensical crap for fiction. May I ask who were the people driving Igbo out of Nigeria? What offence did Igbo commit that called for action of being driven away from Nigeria? Any drunkard in Nigeria who had elementary education of Nigeria must realized that NCNC and AG (UPGA) boycotted the election which saw NPC and NNDP (NAN) won the election. All the Igbo units boycotted the election but this cannot be said about Yari.ba since Akintola and his follow betrayal artists in NNDP fielded candidates for the election.

It is very childish to even insinuate that Awolowo "Offered a joint government between the NCNC and AG, with Zik as Prime Minister and Awo as Finance Minister". AG finished third in the election and it was not in any position to offer anything to anybody. Are Nigerians of certain ethnicity this slow? After the election had concluded, AG performed very poorly and had to do something about the picture of its irrelevance. True to Yari.ba character, the AG sent one team to Onicha to discuss with Azikwe and another to Kaduna to discuss with Bello at the same time. Awolowo and AG played themselves into double standard and lost on both ends. Contrary what this unfortunate slow learner had written, NCNC fought NPC led by Abubakar and NNDP led by Akintola over the trumped up charges against Awolowo. The Yari.ba conspired with the Mallams from the northern region to imprison Awolowo. Everybody who made sure Awolowo went to jail were Yoruba. The Chief Justice was a Yoruba, attorney-General was Yoruba, the Presiding High Court Judge in the case was a Yoruba, the DPP and senior police officers were Yoruba and even the eyewitnesses were Yoruba.

Hmmm this is interesting. Bookmarked!

So as big as Awolowo was,all he wanted was to be finance minister in a coalition government in a Parliamentary system of government when Belewa that was not even as educated could become a prime minister.
Does this make sense to you revisionist.
I have read and heard countless times that it was the north in collaboration with akintola that sent awolowo to prison but here am reading that it is igbos and mallams.
This people should know that era when they used to control the media and be writing rubbish is over.

Everybody know it was Akintola and Bello in connivance with a Yoruba judge and Yoruba witnesses that sent Awo to jail but I think the Yoruba need to hang it on the Igbo in order to justify the massacre of Igbo's and the SSners cousins.
A good dog needs a bad name to be justifiably hanged.

Whenever I come across divisive topic like this, I aways feel pain in my chest. If only people can live and let live and work to forge a peaceful and progressive future for all. I believe I can speak for post-civil-war yoruba generation. That generation were not taught all these internecine hate-filled narrative. All I can remember was that Igbos were decimated and should be encouraged in all facets ( I can remember a man then that had almost 12 children, while people were castigating Yoruba family with more than five children, they supported and justified the man decision). Other tribes were just neighbours with different tongues. This was my belief until at university in 90's when some Igbo friends poured out bile continously in my prescence. The irony of it is that their parents were living in Ibadan and they, their family and properties were never threatened during or after the war according to them. Till today, I will not teach my children hatred, but, I know, some Yorubas are not taken it. lightly.

Spot on. Great analysis. This is why in today's Nigeria, Yorubas lack philosophical and ideological grasp in understanding and analysing practical solutions to Nigeria myriads of problems, except few of them(mostly Christians) who are very vocal and loud with very few followers.

It is self evidence in today's Nigeria, that 100% of Yoruba population, do not like the killings going on in different parts of the country, but lack the real power to persuade the Fulani President(there supposedly equal political partners in the Nigerian project)to stop feeling indifference towards this killings from his kins men, but at the same time, will show 80% support to Arewa/fulani during elections, as a result of institutional conspiracy between them and hausa/fulani to politically hold the Igbo man down for ever. All these have brought upon 80% of their people a weak philosophical and ideological grasp to concrete and practical solutions to get Nigeria out of woods of underdevelopment, backwardness and so many other factors that have prevented Nigeria in becoming a modern transformed society of which them/hausa fulanis are suffering gravelly.

Yoruba support and the feeling of equal partnership with Hausa/fulani(atleast from Tinubu standpoint) is a blind one, and let me prove it to them with some few questions.

1. As equal partners with the Ariwa North, can the Yorubas get away with the killings of other Nigerians if they choose to say in lagos?.

2. If Ariwa North on their own, take a position that Biafrans can now go, can Yorubas who are more vocal against Biafra on their own fight Biafrans to stay with them?

If the answers to these questions are no, then Op analysis has a very weak logical and philosophical bearings to it.

1. ....but you keep running to the same North since day one to team up with them right? Is it because you have the philosophical and ideological grasp in understanding and analysing practical solutions to Nigeria myriads of problems?

Nearly all your ibo states are PDP controlled and last I checked, the PDP is predominately a Northern party and they have once again zoned their presidential candidacy to the North, meaning you can not smell Aso Rock for the next 8 years.

You are and have been and still in worse predicament since day one because of your association with the North, but you still prefer dinning with the North even though you've never benefited from such associations.

2. The SW is not interested in vain, emotional and sentimental alliances, it's always about strategic benefits and national influence which they are obviously getting in abundance as we speak, that's unlike the SE where everything is based strictly on tribalism, emotions, sentiments, lousy political strategy and constant need to play spoiler against the SW and end up getting nothing beyond self marginalization.

3. Yoruba are against biafra or preventing you from attaining your biafra? Is this the new lie and fallacious tales fabricated by you people ?

Who cares? The fact is, you don't want any biafra, it's just the emotional tool you use to blackmail other people with because if you really want your biafra, you know what to do. Put up your referendum or keep quiet.

It's even sad that you are admitting that your you future, your independence and freedom depends on powerful Yoruba people.

You sound so helpless and defeated already.
