PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari has been urged to grant presidential pardon to soldiers imprisoned for refusing to fight Boko Haram insurgents.

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) made the call in a statement by its director Ishaq Akintola, on Friday.

HEADLINE recalls that soldiers numbering about 54 were accused of refusing to deploy and recapture three towns seized by the indigenous terrorists in 2014.

They all were accused of “conspiring to commit mutiny against the authorities of 7 Division,” which is on the front line of the counter-insurgency. They were later sentenced to death for mutiny, assault, cowardice and refusing to fight th Islamic extremists.

Calling for their freedom MURIC said the soldiers should be pardoned because they are the whistleblowers who brought attention to the alleged $2.1bn arms fraud in the Nigerian army.

The group said it is a sad paradox that while the federal government was rewarding whistleblowers, the soldiers are on death row.

“In the spirit of forgiveness and freedom which the middle and end of Ramadan stand for, we appeal to the commander-in-chief of the armed forces to, in exercise of the prerogative of mercy, grant presidential pardon to the 54 soldiers,” it said.

“We call on the civil societies, particularly, the anti-corruption crusaders to speak out for the 54 soldiers.

“They were sentenced to life imprisonment ab initio before the sentence was commuted to 10 years’ imprisonment.

“MURIC sees the 54 soldiers as whistle-blowers, not criminals because they actually exposed the $2.1 billion arms fraud.

“It is a sad paradox that while other whistle-blowers are being rewarded, the 54 soldiers are languishing in jail. This is frustrating.

“We also remind state governors and state chief judges to use the occasion to visit prisons in their states with a view to setting free a large number of inmates particularly those awaiting trial.”

I know you are one of those Biafranic scornfuls but because you want is gently i will explain because i don't usually explain to stubborn Biafranic scornfuls.
Do you know the spirit behind Biafra? the spirit behind Biafra is what i call power of greed in other words those rich men supporting Biafra are greedy of power right from the start
Let start with ojukwu ojukwu was greedy of power that was why he tryed to separate nigeria if not their is no reason for the separation.
The second man after ojukwu have forgotten his name did it because of the money and when he made enough money he went quietly and relaxed.
The present one kanu which have also gone on exile has made enough money and popularity and has also relaxed. Kanu children are enjoying and relaxing while the jobless, idle, foolish, useless youths are their causing nuisance and destroying their life.
If you doubt check any reasonable, useful business man or worker both government and private won't support Biafra because their is no use.
Finally any useful citizen supporting Biafra be it a business man or not is doing it because of money or for the greed of power

Biafra is an ideology.. It can't be killed
Stop mentioning names...
Biafra is the truth... It will always prevail

Why Nigeria is like this is because we live in denial and enjoy lying to ourselves...

We don't have anything in common as a people...
Our diversity is a big disadvantage to progress and unity

We need to restructure the polity or better still balkanise this British mistake for progress to take place...
Corruption... Nepotism... Tribalism.. Tyranny.. Bigotry
We have nothing in common...

I can see that this Biafra disease has entered your brain up to the extent that out of the 140000000+ individuals in this country you are among those that have vowed not to be useful to their generation
