So you're asking him to stop posting photos of Angola yet you're posting a photo of Singapore and claiming it's Lagos? lol..............you guys are so desperate. At least he didn't lie. What kind of idiot would believe Lagos can look anything like that anyway. Seems we're arguing with villagers who've never stepped in Lagos here.

We again have dealt with those issues - use the search function. I have worked with World Bank and they accept OFFICIAL figures from any government...

You're bringing the very basic things that were brought up in the first 100 pages and we debunked them completely. We have demonstrated with facts that Nigeria GDP is not only cooked - but over-cooked. Start with agriculture - shows us how your agriculture is BIGGER than Brazil.

The agriculture that cannot even supply tomatos to Dangote's tomato industry grin. The one that long collapsed but is now bigger than Brazil smiley some of the vodoo and juju nigerian are capable of are truly amazing.

You real GDP is not even equal to Algeria's 150B dollars.

I mean you've got 3 official exchange rates (gov one of 305 naira to dollar), Bank one (360 naira to dollar) plus black market rate for dollars (anything upto 450-500 naira for a dollar)- how do you even start the comparison.

In addition to not producing any notable figures from your population (as your post shows)

You don't seem to understand economics either

Kenyan GDP per capita

1,455.36 USD (2016) Source WORLD BANK

Nigerian

2,177.99 USD (2016) Source WORLD BANK

So how on earth can you justify your statements about particular sets of workers being paid 3 times more in Kenya? Based on the crude measure of per capita numbers it is more likely that Nigerian professionals would earn more than their Kenyan equivalents. Heck Lagos alone is one of the largest economies in Africa..

Given I work in Banking and Finance, I assure you Kenya is a financial backwater. You have no presence in the major financial centres like London and New York. Nigerian Banks do...

As I said be quiet, rather than speak up and show yourself to be a fool!! I have nothing against you Kenyans but you aren't even in the same League.

I would allow Ghanaians question us, the Ashanti have much to say for themselves. Currently, you Kenyans do not!!

Why are you using figures of 2016 when we are in 2018? Don't you know Nigeria's GDP is decreasing while Kenya's is increasing at a high rate? In 2018,

Kenya GDP per capita - 1790
Nigeria GDP per capita - 1994

I've said here several times that your GDP per capita was almost 3 times ours in 2014 now they're almost equal. In the next two years we'll definitely be ahead of you.

A good percentage of your GDP is drawn from oil which ends up in foreign pockets of mining companies - reason why despite your slight advantage over us on GDP per capital, our civil servants earn more than your civil servants.

I think we're nigeria's have gone mad. We are laughing of kenyans living in slums but the reality is 50% of nigerians live in slums. Two out of every three people in lagos live in slums. Please let's leave kenyan slumps alone because we're 100 times worse.

Half of Nigerians live in slums -UN
The Programme Manager of the United Nations Habitat in Nigeria, Professor Johnson Bade Falade has disclosed that a total of 71 million Nigerians are currently living in slums.

Prof. Falade who revealed this while speaking at the National Conference on Shelter and Urban Renewal organised by the Daily Trust Newspapers in collaboration with the Legend Leaders in Abuja last week, also put the figure of current housing accommodation shortage in the country at 16 million housing units.

The themed of the conference which was organised in commemoration of the 2011World Habitat Day celebration was “Mass Housing & Urban Renewal: Imperative of Public Private Partnership”.

Professor Falade who noted that a general overview of the existing housing situation painted a bleak and gloomy picture that is not well for Nigeria, added, that “the total population of Nigeria of 140 million is rapidly urbanising, with 49.8 per cent urban population while those living in rural are 50.2 per cent, and the majority of the people are not well housed”.

The statistics according to him showed that, low figure for GDP per capital income of $1,154 and a high percent of the population that is poor, of which 54 per cent is said to be the population figure living below one dollar per day.

He said, “share of income and consumption held by the poorest 20 per cent which is said to be currently 54 per cent of the total population is 5.13 per cent. Occupancy ration which is currently six persons per room for extended family is very high.”

He pointed out that while access to adequate shelter is estimated at 40 per cent of the total population, home ownership in Nigeria is less than 25 per cent as compared with 75 per cent international benchmarks, even as approximately 90% of urban housing is provided by private developers.

Proposing a way forward in the housing sector, Falade said there is need for political commitment to housing at the national level, state and local governments, stressing that all political parties need to be committed to housing delivery and make this the cornerstone of their political manifestos.

“If any political party is not seen to be realistically committed to housing of the masses, people should not vote for it. It is gratifying to note that the present administration is rethinking its strategy to give housing the pride of place it deserves. For instance, both the Vision 202020 and the Financial System Strategy 2020 have assigned special roles to the housing sector, expecting it to drive the financial system and contribute not less than 20 per cent to the GDP by the year 2020”, he stated.

He warned that, “the ministry in charge of housing and urban development at the federal level must be allowed to discharge its statutory role unhindered as part of this political commitment.”

Meanwhile, former Head of Interim National Government, Chief Earnest Shonekan has challenged the Federal Government and the stakeholders in the housing sector to develop a national housing policy that will encourage the delivery of mass housing for the citizenry through the Private Public Partnership, PPP, scheme.

Chief Shonekan who gave the challenge while delivering a speech at the World Habitat Day regretted that the challenges of housing in Nigeria have been with us for a long time. He said mass housing provision can become an important contribution to national economic development, job creation, skill development, industrialization and give rise to new asset classes and prosperity for all Nigerians

According to him, “the challenges of housing in Nigeria have been with us for a long time. Our shelter/ housing problems are most pronounced in our urban areas where it takes significant qualitative and quantitative dimension”.

The Chairman of Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission, ICRC, stressed further that “the rapid urbanization and explosive population growth are twin problems, which in combination results in the serious housing deficit we are experiencing in Nigeria”.

Chief Shonekan who was the Chairman of the conference said that government should create win win alliances with the private developers to develop affordable housing estates through Public-Private Partnership (PPP), and associated infrastructure, citing a recently signed PPP contract between the FCT and Deanshanger projects for primary and secondary infrastructure development in the Katampe district of Abuja as a good example of PPP partnership.

He said “it is my prayer that the Federal Capital Territory and Federal Housing Authority will work further with the ICRC to develop public private partnerships for the urgent provision of affordable mass housing in Katampe and other districts of the FCT. The ICRC is willing and able to play a catalyzing role in facilitating this mass housing provision thrust”, Shonekan noted.

In his address, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Senator Bala Mohammed said the present FCT administration has concluded plans to articulate policies that will encourage massive inflow of private sector investment into the housing sector.

Mohammed added that the move, aimed to increase the housing stock in the city and the Territory, will ameliorate the current demand for housing. He said the FCT administration has since inception of the civilian administration, pursued with mixed success a PPP scheme in Abuja, under which private developers are allocated parcels of land under generous conditions, to undertake mass housing development in Abuja for sale to members of the public.

The current FCT administration he said has commenced the enforcement of the extant guidelines for access to land by developers for mass housing scheme in Abuja, in order to ensure that serious developers with requisite legal, technical and financial capacities, and can deliver on their stated objectives, are allocated land under the scheme.

In her remarks, the Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Ms. Amal Pepple expressed concerns over the critical housing situation in the country, saying one of the major concerns in the housing sector is the fact that most of the people live in sub-standard housing environment with dilapidated houses and poor infrastructure.

According to her, “the provision and management of the necessary infrastructure have become a daunting challenge in our collective effort toward effective and affordable mass housing delivery in Nigeria. This is especially so when we consider that the cost of infrastructure could account for more than 30 per cent of the cost of an estate development with the attendant prohibitive effect on the price of a housing unit”.

Ms. Pepple however, assured that the ministry is focusing on the creation of an enabling environment for the citizens to be able to purchase affordable houses of their choice, based on their income.

Two out of three people in Lagos ‘live in slums

Researchers at African Property Investment (API), a real estate development company, on Thursday said two in every three persons in Lagos live in slums.

According to a statement by the organisation, researchers predicted that by 2030, Lagos would become the largest mega city on the African continent, with at least 30 million people inhabiting the state.

The researchers also said that at the same period, Lagos, Cairo and Kinshasa would each have a population of 20 million.

The API noted that with rapid population growth in African cities, urban planning had proven to be ineffective with private development often deterred by “opaque or inappropriate regulations”.

The organisation added that African cities had, until recently, failed to keep pace with the concentration of people.

“When it comes to investments in infrastructure, industrial and commercial structures, and affordable formal housing, African cities have, until now, failed to keep pace with the concentration of people,” the statement read.

“In Dar es Salaam, 28 percent of residents live at least three to a room; in Abidjan, that number rises to 50 percent.

“In Lagos, Nigeria, two out of three people dwell in slums.”

The API said World Bank’s African Cities report found that in several cities, built-up areas were scattered throughout the centre, with more than 30 percent of land within five kilometres of the city centres still left undeveloped.

The organisation noted that the rapid growth of Africa’s urban populations would place a new demand for infrastructure, housing and other physical structures, and amenities in the next 20 years.

It said to meet the new demand, city leaders and planners needed adaptable strategies.

The group said it had commenced plans for a summit where experts, Africa’s real estate and built environment developers and investors would debate and craft a vision of what an African city should look like.

“The API Summit and Expo 2017 Future Cities Africa sub-conference will look at how African governments and institutions can help formalise land markets, clarify property rights, and better leverage off land values to finance Africa’s urban development.’’

Kfir Rusin, managing director for API events, said the continent could not move forward without proper discussions on the planning, infrastructure and urban development requirements of African cities.

Rusin explained that such discussion and information sharing would enable African cities thrive and grow.

“The Future Cities Africa sub-conference will take an in depth look into how African Cities can better open its doors to the world, while creating more economically dense and inclusive urban areas,” Rusin said.

I think kenyans have been too soft on we nigerians

My own estimates of Dangoteland's REAL GDP per capita were slightly higher but then this is the program manager of UN Habitat who obviously knows his beans. Again, the Lands and Housing minister provides irrefutable receipts on the dire housing situation admitting the majority live in slums. Africa Property Investment researchers say 2 out of 2 Lagosians stay in slums-and black mofos screech and point fingers at us!?

Another difference I see is honesty. We admit our shortcomings and try to address them while Dangotelanders change the subject and start discussing the contents of HIM's underwear drawer.

You're right ,we've been wayyyyyy too soft on these 'tards!

WB/IMF/CIA/ name them - DO NOT produce national accounts - that is done for Nigeria by your crooked Stat Office Yemi Kale grin. For a long time Nigeria had not re-based - but WB/IMF could not just manufacture figures for Nigeria. When Nigeria finally re-based they took in the new figures. What IMF/WB massage is really the prices(USD/PPP) - but OFFICIAL NATIONAL ACCOUNTS - are accepted as given.

Many MNCS have rushed to invest in Nigeria after buying the cooked Yemi Kale stew but have 1-2yrs lost their shirts - Nigeria style. The latest is VW - who sold about 30 units of VW in NIGERIA the whole of 2017 in a country of 200M with supposedly 500B dollar economy.

Now you're all over. Nigeria are right now dying cross Mediterranean - they are all over the world - because their economy long collapsed. That is not sign of success but failure. Nearly all failed states have huge diaspora. In kenya during the 90s at height of Moi dictatorship - Kenyans move to abroad & certainly were more successfully than Nigerians despite their numbers. We fixed our country and the queues at US embassay long died.

Regarding TECH - Nairobi(Kenya) lead with South Africa - Nigeria only this year "caught" up thanks to 40m dollars for Andela - in other years it either been South Africa or Kenya leading in tech funding. We shall see if Nigeria will repeat it this year - or we are back to the default the last 10yrs - Kenya & South Africa.

On British Nigerians

According to the Institute for Public Policy Research, Nigerian pupils are among best performing student groups in the United Kingdom. Taking data for only England, a 2013 IPPR survey reported that the proportion of British Nigerian pupils gaining 5 A*–C grades at GCSE (including Maths and English) in 2010–2011 was 21.8 percentage points higher than the England mean of 59.6 per cent. This average was calculated using student data, where available, from various local authorities in England

On Nigerian Americans

According to the 2016 American Community Survey, 62% of Nigerian Americans age 25 and higher hold bachelor's degrees (or higher) and 29% hold graduate or professional degrees. Of 75 national origins listed, only Iranians, Russians, and Bulgarians have a higher share with graduate or professional degrees. Census data reveals that Nigerian Americans are the most educated immigrant group in the US, surpassing even East Asians

https://www.bloomberg.com/view/articles/2015-10-13/it-isn-t-just-asian-immigrants-who-excel-in-the-u-s-

Nigerian immigrants are especially educated, with almost two-thirds holding college degrees -- a significantly higher percentage even than Chinese or South Korean immigrants.

I would say that is makes us pretty special. What can we say about Kenyans undecided

NairobiWalker:

Rvp20182 and I provided the proof! At most their GDP is 200 to 250 bn$,which btw is very very generous! Their pop is between 150 mn to 180 mn. Their REAL GDP per capita is between 1300 to 1400$!!
We really can't go over this again. The proof is terms of breakdown of their agriculture/manufacturing/tourism/ICT sectors etc etc was done recently. Basically, they hilariously inflate Nollywood and other hard to quantify sectors like mobile banking to unconsciously camouflage their underdeveloped economy.

If the basis is your national stats ; then the list is not worthy it. If it's VW producing & selling less than 40 cars in 2017 - kindly share grin grin

IMF states GDP is $492.986 billion (2016)

So please be quiet

When you question World Bank figures you are on a hiding to nothing!!

Please stop with your nonsense!!! Do you even realise how many wealthly Nigerians remit money back from the West to Nigeria??

You couldnt counter my arguments about cultural contributions and the successful diasporas. The fact we dominate our rich list should be an inspiration to you. We also do new things, how many Nigerian tech start-ups have received western accelerator funding, bros loads...

Now you are questioning world bank statistics?? Given they are used in my Bloomberg Terminal which is one of the main tools intrinsic to GLOBAL FINANCE, I am sorry I trust them rather than your drivel about flawed figures....

This isnt even an argument from Wall Street to the City Of London, to Tech companies in Silicon Valley the work ethic and academic prowess of Nigerians vis a vis other black groups is well known.

I only need to look around our London office and 8 out of 10 blacks in the office are Nigerian. We are in front, you guys arent even close..

Look to us for inspiration and do your own. Rather than pour scorn on our successes and achievements.. Your current position speaks less of you (Mchteww crab in a barrel mentality)

Rmbr recently I mentioned most people regardless of training, vocation and/or education are mediocre? This post should be an infograph proving that fact. This nigga is a finance pro but like a child believes in fairy tales cause they were told by the WB. He's semi intelligent but lacks sense.

Those are figures that have put lots of companies in big trouble. Now explain to me why less than 40 VW cars were bought in the whole of Nigeria last year despite VW investing in a productiion plant there. Less than 40 Nigerians can afford to buy 15-20K dollar car?

Kenya's trajectory in regards to poverty rates reduction is showing promises, the same can't be said for Nigeria the country which has one of the most poor people in the world by numbers!

Here is the Nigerian case for you!

I had smth similar so this confirms my own findings!

NAIROBI, APRIL 11, 2018 – The proportion of Kenyans living on less than the international poverty line (US$1.90 per day in 2011 PPP) has declined from 46.8% in 2005/06 to 36.1% in 2015/16, according to the 17th edition of the Kenya Economic Update.
