Ebukawaylaid:Story for another day but subjectively,i dont think a cargo airport is an immediate priority for the oil rich state.its not by force to have an airport.what is the volume of trading or prpduction of goods in that state that warrants a cargo airport? I think the immediate priorities are portable water, good roads, functional healthcare system, provision of employment opportunities, attraction of investors, building of more schools and uplifting the existing ones, tackling the problems of the state owned ndu, engaging the youths in skill acquisition and other part time schemes with the purpose of absorbing them into the civil service or giving them grants to start up something since theres a lot of youth restiveness in bayelsa. Cargo airport is elitist and not masses oriented.how many poor men use the airport.bayelsa is full of waterways.the governor can develop a good water transport system like lagos and develop the road network system, this cargo airport can come in future.the sokoto governor seems to be referring to seriake when he said flyovers are not what his people need but masses oriented projects.if dickson dont know how to effectively utilize the huge allocation he gets, let him consult tambuwal or ambode.up buhari |

usibengate:. Uyo Airport with a 2nd Runway &one of the longest runway is an helipad? A daily to&fro flight from Lagos and Abuja operated by Arik, Air Peace &Dana Airlines that can land Boeing737 Aircraft you called an Helipad? An Airport that handled InT'L flight during the pilgrim to Israel &airlifted Super Eagles to Cameroon to honour their WC Qualifying match is an Helipad? Guy u need to think well. Let me just assume you're very ignorant about the Airport. |

How I wish the runway was a rail line and the terminal the hub of an industrial park. The governments we have are just not thinking properly. When they sit in council of state meetings what the father of them all, the federal government should be doing is urging and planning for the states to spend more on rail infrastructure rather than roads. The feds will guarantee loans and the states will build interconnecting rail networks from their prime zones of production be it farm centres, processing plants, mining sites according to set developmental objectives so that a rice farmer in Sokoto can get his rice to a mill in Abakaliki and off to the ports in Lagos for export at very low costs. It will open up Nigeria to all spheres of productivity, make our goods competitive, preserve our road network and create millions of new jobs. With this sort of plan states will be falling over themselves to connect to the network and the rollout will be quicker. As I was telling someone this week, there is no country I know with a desire to have an industrial backbone or have developed that does not have at its core, a functional cargo rail system. The most advanced country on earth, the United States depends heavily on rail for its industrial production and exports so what is a Bayelsa state in a third world country doing with an airport. In world trade what is the volume and value of airfreight compared to land and sea freight both nationally and internationally, very small and who can afford airfreight by the way. |
