A friend of mine in ASBA told me that a lot of wawa and abakaliki okada riders who came to collect the loan with false identities claiming to be anambra indigenes are being turned back after their strange dialects gave them away. Obiano deserves applause for putting Anambra's strategic interest first above all else.

nwakibie3:
Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State has set aside N765 million for commercial motorcyclists in the state to enable them purchase shuttle buses following the government’s decision to restrict them from operating in Awka, the state capital, and Onitsha, the Southeast commercial hub, from July 1.

This was contained in a statement issued yesterday by the Anambra State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr. C. Don Adinuba.

According to the statement, “the funds will be accessed through the Anambra State Small Business Agency (ASBA). Existing commercial motorcyclists, popularly known as Okada operators, will take delivery of the buses once they deposit N100,000 with ASBA undertaking to make payments every two weeks.

The interest-free loan can be repaid within a year and a half. The shuttle buses will cost between N700,000 and N800,000 each.

The first set of 200 units of the 1,000 buses in the scheme will arrive in the state anytime from now from Japan.”

Adinuba, in the statement, said Obiano’s administration decided to phase out Okada operations in Awka and Onitsha so as to economically empower the operators and quicken the process of turning the state into a modern place like Dubai.

Reacting to the decision, chairman of the Okada Riders Association in the state, Jude Udegbe, described it “as another evidence of Obiano’s humane nature” while the chairman of the state branch of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Jerry Nnubia, called it a welcome development which has the potential to dramatically improve the lives of Okada operators and reduce the crime rate in our state.

That is what is expected of every leader who has common sense. You put the interests (call it favour if you want) of your citizens/indigenes first and foremost before others. That's the same excuse that the enugu and abia state governments gave when they were laying off anambra workers from their civil service.

my question is why importing it from Japan. ( mind you, its a nice development)

if anambra state governor can not patronize product rolled out from Anambra state and by the son of the state then who will.

even if u don't want to buy from innoson; at least we have Nissan assembling plant and the likes in Nigeria, why not commit this company to produce their vehicles here then we support them by way of patronage. this alone will strengthen our Naira

sourcing Forex to import product that we have the capacity to produce it here in Nigeria i consider it very alarming.

BENEFIT OF BUYING MADE IN NIGERIA PRODUCT THAN IMPORTING IT FROM OTHER COUNTRIES;

create employment
strengthen the naira etc
increase our foreign reserve
increase standard of living and reduce poverty level
sustain economy development and growth.

Okorocha brought useless 2nd hand passat and gave to Imo state people who are by the way generally poor. About 85% of those 2nd hand passats has since packed up.

Okorocha represent everything a governor should never ever be.

1000 buses from japan? I no talk am say na dunce full everywhere. I have not seen anytime where nigerian leaders especially elected or any leader do something from 1 to 100% without any form of mumu ways involved. 1000 buses from japan, japan wey no dey buy any of our thing.

Innoson dey around, but instead of helping your fellow Nigerian, you feel very great giving that money away. Then to add insult to injury, you demand the drivers pay every two weeks, but if we look well, you dun owe civil servants for months now. Your children are schooling abroad. I mean, can Nigerian people ever be for nigeria's interest for more than a minute or a day not to talk about a year. It seems we are our own worst enemies. Baba God, where you dey? why country wey get sense like nigeria cun dey very stupid to the extreme like this.

Well, good idea, but I'm not saying what Gov. Obiano is doing is not good. Since it is only 1000 bus and perhaps assume the beneficials are 5000, maybe it will be share 5 pple per bus, if not what will other pple be doing till the phase comes up.

Farming or other kinds of trading.
Have you asked yourself what will happen to the numerous transporters that drive major distances in Nigeria if our rail system comes back on track? Will you now say because many drivers depend on the large volume of traffic on the roads to survive, let the railways not be developed?

Farming!!! As if it is so easy. Take urself for instance, taking away your livelihood, and farming comes to your mind immediately abi. Oga, providing only 1000 bike for the okada both in Awka, Onitsha and Nnewi is a way too low...

I'm sure you mean 1000 buses...
The issue here is that they can't provide 5000 buses to replace 5000 bikes. You will need to consider the impact it will have in terms of road congestion, and the fact that it's way more than needed to replace d bikes. Remember most other states stopped bikes without giving any option to the riders. Obiano tried.
The truth is that those bike riders will find other things to do or relocate to other towns and villages in Anambra and continue their riding.
