Does anyone else agree that hybrid is better for full grow out? That is raising to table size(1kg plus]?

While clarias is better for melange, due to being able to survive in high quantity with less space?


Pls someone shed some light on the stocking density for both clarias and hybrid for full grow out only.


For Instance I have a 10ft×12ft×4ft pond, what quantity should I stock to 1kg for;
1)clarias
2)hybrid


Lastly, what is the average price of their fingerlings and juveniles?

I assume u are running a stagnant pond system therefore d quantity in dat space(20/25/5) is much, u are right oxygen is depleted, if u want good performance 4dat space u shud stock like 500pcs(am still assuming stagnant system) and then still reduce dem wt time dat is if u ar targeting 1kg above.

2times a day for fingerlings not so good, atleast 3times feeding shud work better(but then cos of ur small space ds frequency wl certainly cause more pollution)
The space is just small 4dat number.

Suggestion; if u hv a pond not in use, use a mud pump and gently pump in fresh water frm there into d pond dat has fish for like an hour everyday after morning feeding, do it for like a week ( i wud hav suggested draining ur pond nd evacuating into diff ponds bt they ar quite small, might cause much more mortality.....)

Then u can get aquaceryl frm a vet shop and mix in their feed, just follow d instruction on d sachet.
Once they stopd dropping nd hv come up in size a little please split into diff ponds as fast as u can.
They wl b fine, i dont think d person sold bad seeds to u, it looks purely like basic mgt issue.
Give ur fishes good water nd space plus quality feed and u ar good to go.

Those were the calculations I learnt from this thread. Even though I don't know why its divided by 3, and finally multiplied by 5 or 6.

Try to find out more from the owner of that info...how he/she got the numbers... Am interested to know.

Meanwhile, your pond is about 11m²....if we follow their book that stated 20f/m² your pond will take about 250 fishes.

The figure i gave is about 80f/m².... 4X what's in the book.

Catfish species are not always moving in the water and they do not remain in the water column while resting unlike laterally compressed fishes, They simply lie on the bottom of the pond. You don't want to crowd them in your pond as that could be very detrimental. Proper spacing is good practice in crop production as well as in livestock, the benefits cannot be over emphasised.

However, do practice with the 800 and see how it fares... We'll want to read the feedback. Its a learning platform and new stuff is always appreciated

u can get mosquito laval from a stagnant water to feed dem or u can put water in a dark bucket or bowl outside, in few days u start to see mosquitor laval harvest and feed ur fry with it.

Thank you planetfood for your response.My hatchery set up has peculiar challenges. It was poorly designed for siphoning wastes. The floor of the pond is at ground level and therefore no gradient for water levels between it and the receiver of the wastes.Removing the wastes is therefore only possible with suctioning, which is very tedious. The mosquito larva I collect is not enough to feed all the fry and I therefore have to supplement their nutrition with more of aqualis fry which unfortunately causes more pollution .I would be grateful if you could teach me how to culture and maintain daphnia or Monia for constant supply on live feed. Many thanks in anticipation.

They are high in protein,

with d hope dat u have good of water u can start with 500 pcs of post fingerlings and try to keep good water management then sort or grade them accordingly to their sizes on regular bases
