Just learning java as a newbie and i need to start focusing on a pet project to aid my learning, i am aware of google but i want to hear from people that are actually in my demographic who have done such. Also ideas for web apps too would be greatly appreciated. |

if i get you correctly, you mean the tools that you need to use to learn java and develop software or web? you will need the following tools: 1. jdk(java development kit) oracle has recently released jdk 10. if you download it make sure you download its documentation as well. 2. IDE (integrated development environment). currently there are 3 popular java IDEs namely: 1.netbeans ide 2. eclipse ide and 3. intellij idea ide. another tool that can help your learning is "internet" you will need it especially when working on android studio. so, internet is key to learning any language. do not rush, get the best ebooks, get videos on java, make stackoverflow your companion. |

I really appreciate your input, i will go for netbeans and as you said android studio requires internet. It wont be easy but we shall cope. |

If I may give some advice. Books are less than helpful when learning to program. You learn to code by writing code . Get yourself some stable access to internet and google away all your questions and curiosity as you embark on your first project . Try and attempt some code quiz and puzzles about algorithms as often as you can . |
