Nothing new.

The JF-17 Thunder was mentioned twice. However, there was no mention of A-29 Super Tucano.

Something FG already paid for with money from excess crude account, it can’t be in the budget.

They withdrew money from ECA and paid without approval from senate because U.S government gave us a deadline to pay. The A29 deal is in the bag.

20 Billion + for JF 17's mean we are getting more than 3 units or rather we just initiated payment for another batch of 3.

No price tag/amount was put on the drone section.

I have seen these defense budget before but I didn't pay much attention on these new assets.

Let's see how things go, JF-17 been mentioned twice cannot be an error. However i have a problem with budgeting for an aircraft, yet we don't see this aircraft that we keep budgeting for.

One thing that keeps my mind on rest, that the jf17 is a sure deal is that it appeared in the budget two consecutive years grin

That's not a mistake or error.

Nigeria has started hiding defence Capital expenditures under DHQ again. Nice trick.
Another good trick is to look for capital budgeting under NSA office.
I suspect the Nigeria Army Raybirds UAVs ( or whatever) are already in country. They want to buy more this year and next that is why a new "project" sub-head was started.

I have examined the photos of the Proforce factory and equipment. There are space and tooling limitations. Also, ARA is not frozen in design and development work though at advanced stage is still ongoing. If you see money for Ara in any budget, it is to make a prototype for more testing and refinement.

Well as i can recall the Nigerian army purchased a handful of Ara for evaluation....Now forgive me if im wrong but i've seen a few pics of the Ara in the battlefield, and I highly doubt the Bosses at the NDF will put soldiers in a vehicle which is not tested and just a prototype......IMO the Ara is very close to entering full production IF it can get a customer!

I hope for your part NAF eventually does get the JF17.......but from personal experience a budgets don't mean sh1t..........our DoD budgeted for Light and medium aircraft for 2 years 2014/25 and 2015/16, but we got nothing and eventually the acquisition was deferred....Now again DoD has apparently budgeted for Light and Medium tranports for next year..... which im 90% sure wont materialize either.

Let me piggy back on this.
NASS added a significant amount of money to the Defence budget that will only become apparent when the purchases/procurement are done.
We all want and need Proforce to succeed and going by the interest generated by ARA and critically the mindset of the Top leadership of the Army they will.
Even some of the Generals are enthused by it.
However right now short term they need more APCs, to many IED casualties.

this excuse will be used for another 2 years if we are not careful, yes proforce production facility is small and limited, but rather than dwell on this and use it as an excuse, let the army/airforce/navy, MOD, DHQ or in fact anybody with excess money to spend, invest in proforce and expand their production and R& D facilities, the market is there (local and regional), take the risk and rip the benefits.

ARA is a matured design, that's why the company that produces the vehicle had the confidence to exhibit at the world's largest defence show. We are not trying to re-invent the wheel with the ARA MRAP, the company has engineers who have a combined experience of 120 years in the vehicle manufacturing industry.

ARA will be purchased as it is partly funded by the Nigerian government.

The 9 units already paid for were not in the budget.

They won't purchase it. At least not from this budget, special funding maybe. Think they are concentrating on standing up NA Aviation.

That's why there is zero allocation for it in the 2018 Budget.

Nigeria is completing one batch of 3 aircraft and has started paying for another batch of 3 aircraft. That is what i can surmise from 2015 - 2018 outlay for the JF 17. I think a decision has been taken to buy a full squadron. I suspect a mix of JF17B and JF17 Block 2

Better stop spreading hate against other tribes, spreading false information and insulting Buhari on social media. Insult him in your toilet instead, it will still hurt him.

Ara is not operationally fielded on the battlefield.. please. If you see it near the battlefield, they are evaluating and testing it. And for Christ sakes, buying nine (9) vehicles from a local manufacturer is not procurement. No country buys in bits and pieces like that locally if the development has been completed. When Ara is mature and frozen, there will be a new factory or noticeable factory expansion and Proforce would be building hundreds a year.

Mass production of winged men/women! I just hope standards are being upheld like one south Africa pointed out, anyways I trust NAF !

All these pilots being trained, what’s NAF future broadcast for number of assets??
12x A29 super Tucano
6 remaining mi-35m
Jf17 (maybe )

I see some long term planning in action here.

MI 35M acquisition is being slowed down to buy the lighter, easier to maintain AW 109LUH.

You're not buying equipment directly from there military but rather from private companies.

Ukraine have a huge defence industry(one of the largest in the world)... Maintaining a defence force is not the responsibility of private defense companies.... I wouldn't necessarily correlate the state of their defence force with the state of their defence industry.

Not comparing. The threat assessment seems to be throwing up more requirement for LUH. Even Boko Haram has been degraded below the need for more AH. What we have now are middle belt bandits and occassional BH forays into urban areas which need more nimble cheaper assets
