Onitsha urban metropolis has been duly recognized as one of the most populated and Built up urban (not necessarily "most developed" areas in the world. In a article published by DEMOGRAPHIA titled Demographia World Urban Areas (Built up Urban Areas of World Agglomerations) : 14th Annual Edition. http://www.demographia.com/db-worldua.pdf . The rankings by the World body put Onitsha as the 49th Largest Built-Up Urban Areas in the World by Population in 2018 with estimated population of 7,850,00 million people and as the 47th Largest Built-Up Urban Areas in the World by Land Area. A built-up area is an area such as a town or city which has a lot of buildings in it Built-Up Area or Plinth Area - Total covered area of the apartment or commercial property unit. It can be calculated by adding areas of utility ducts within property unit, internal and external walls to the carpet are. As a rule of thumb, built up area can be calculated by adding 10% loading factor on carpet area. The Onitsha metropolitan urban areas include : > Onitsha Urban (Onitsha North and South LGAs) Fegge, Inland Town, Omagba, Akpaka ,GRA > Okpoko > Nkutaku/Ogbaru Metro > 3/3 Area > Obosi/ Awada / Ugwuagba / Odume Layout > Nkpor Area up to Ugwunwasike/ New Tarzan >Nsugbe Urban > Nkwelle Ezunnaka Urban > Ogidi Urban Population and Urbanization are usually key criteria investors put into consideration when studying a location for potential investments. Onitsha has evolved from a crime-ridden Market city to a more modern urban Economic centre in the country. Investors investing in diverse sectors in the city are now getting their ROI in record time. There have been recent influx of multinational companies, large scale industries, media houses (especially radio stations, increasing from just one station to over 16 commercial radio stations covering the metropolis in just 6 years), and other businesses. The state government in foresight mapped out industrial hubs in Onitsha with the major ones : Harbour Industrial Hub and Odume Industrial Layout with hundreds of industries abound. Onitsha is well known to be the economic nerve of South Eastern Nigeria and the second largest Trade and Commercial city sub sahara Africa after Lagos despite limitations ofminimal governmental presence in the city especially at the federal level. A functional cargo airport and river port will really do the city a whole lot of good in every sense of it. @porschethane @onitshametro Photo credit: Egwuatu Olisa #onitshasocialmedia

investnow2013:Onitsha does not have a population of 7 million. The data on phones, buildings, fuel consumption, primary and secondary school enrollment suggests a city of around 1 -1.5 million. Let's stop the deception. Same goes for Lagos. I doubt Lagos has the population of the greater Cairo area. Lagos has around 15 million people whereas Cairo metro is about 20 million. |

Lol at Omanbala1 Guy trying to force an "Omanbala identity" on every body, Anambra is just a state and Man-made,people at the top can wake up one day and decide to sl8ce the State into Two or three,I wonder what identity you would pick up then, maybe Orimili identity? And at that yeske dude, I never see you defend Igbos against Yoruba people when they attack us,instead you join them in insulting/attacking us now you have suddenly turned "Voltron defender of the Universe" against your Ebonyi brothers,i don't blame those who say you are Yoruba cuz it is clear as crystal what your mission is here |

Tranquillity and peace on the streets of Awka as Okada exits our roads. By Chinedu Nkwonta (Idengeli) Today starts the ban of Okada on the streets of Awka and Onitsha as the APGA Government in Anambra State under the able leadership of the Ever Hard Working Elected Leader of the Igbo Nation, Chief Dr. Willie Obiano starts the process of redeeming and restoring Anambra State to a sane and organised environment. Now, there will be massive reduction on the death and lifetime scar on our people due to Okada accident. Our hospitals will now be decongested and crime shall drastically reduce. Some people had concern about job opportunities and possibilities of crime increase in Awka and Onitsha. My reply to them is that Okada is not the destiny of anyone. The Government of Anambra State under the able leadership of the Ever Hard Working Elected Leader of the Igbo Nation, Chief Dr. Willie Obiano has provided abundant opportunities for Okada riders that want to make better life. This is the opportunity for people stuck on riding Okada to chart a new and better destiny. For the crime side, be rest assured that Anambra State is over ready to fight criminals to finish. Anyone that gets into crime because he cannot ride Okada is a criminal by nature. They are one of the reasons why Okada should be off our roads. It is time for our people to get healthier, small distance walk to the bus stop will increase our general well being. We all need exercise to be stronger and live longer. The shuttles will come in and get into our streets, the government is prepared to take care of our inner city roads, things shall generally get better for Ndi Anambra. This ban on Okada is equally a warning to keke drivers that dangerously and recklessly flaunt our roads and streets with complete disregard to human life and sanctity of our general society, keke riders MUST watch it, they are likely to follow next if they cannot sanitize their trade, a word is enough for the wise. Enjoy the peaceful pictures of Awka this beautiful Sunday morning. Do have a great week guys

Commercial motorcyclists seen leaving Anambra state ahead of July 1 ban. Ahead of the July 1, 2018 ban of commercial motorcycles (Okada) in Awka and Onitsha, some 'okada' riders and operators have started leaving Anambra state as captured in this video by Emmanuel Ojike Chidumeje. It will be recalled that Anambra state government had through statements and public service announcements by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu, and the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment , Mr C.Don Adinuba advised commercial motorcyclists affected by the ban to take advantage of the mini-bus ownership scheme of the state government by applying for loans set aside for such through the Anambra State Small Business Agency (ASBA). The ban takes effect from midnight yesterday June 30, 2018.https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1038944402929185&id=200902653400035 |

Obiano Inaugurates Nkpor Fly - Over Park 01 JULY 2018 State Govenment says it will not compromise security of the state in anyway. The Governor represented by the Commissioner for Land, Rail and Water Transport, Mr Uchenna Okafor, disclosed that the project was executive in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Works,Power and Housing under Private Public partnership. Okada Ban: 200 Commercial Motorcyclists Apply For Anambra Govt Shuttle Scheme 01 JULY 2018 WRITTEN BY EMMANUEL OKONKWO As the ban on commercial motorcyclists in Awka and Onitsha metropolis commences today, over two hundred affected Okada riders have applied to Anambra Small Business Agency for the State Government Shuttle buses initiative. While some are trying to access the empowerment scheme some others are seeking other means of lively hood . This was the reactions of some operators in Awka the capital city of the state and Onitsha during an interview with the ABS on the development. During the interview, the ABS observed that most of the motorcyclists have not completed their registrations as some were without driving license which is one of the major requirements for the shuttle bus empowerment. In their separate responses, some of the riders who are Anambra indigenes, Mr. Emmanuel Onuorah, and Mr. Jeremiah Ozughah, said though they were not against the ban, they were yet to find an alternative means of income as they have not completed registrations for the State Government shuttle bus interventions. Other cyclists who are from Ebonyi state, Messrs Anthony Obasi, Dominic Nweke, and Ozoemenam Elom, noted that the process of the bus distribution is still ongoing. Also speaking, another motorcyclist who operates in Onitsha metropolis, Mr. God'swill Onoleh, called for objectivity and fairness in the distribution of the shuttle buses to ensure that people who have been in Okada business and are affected by the ban, are considered first before other interested individuals so that no motorcyclists will be left unempowered in order not to undermine the goodwill of Governor Willie Obiano. Reacting to the issue, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Anambra Small Business Agency, ASBA, Mr. Clement Chukwuka, disclosed that out of two hundred persons that have applied for the empowerment so far, about ten have qualified as others could not yet provide their driving license or meet up with other requirements which are prerequisites for the empowerment. Mr. Chukwuka, said that as part of its commitment to ensuring that the empowerment is fairly handled, the agency is collaborating with Okada Unions and the Ministry of Road, Rail and Water Transportation, and called on the motorcyclists that are still reluctant to the initiative to do the needful in order to be among the beneficiaries of the scheme. On her part, an Awka resident, Mrs Joy Chukwuemeka, described the initiative as a welcome development as it will help in reducing crime and criminalities in the state, as according to her, most of the crimes are committed with Motorcycle as it is the fastest means of escape for criminals. |

investnow2013:I THANK Gov. Obiano for a day like this! After Okada was banned in even places such as Uyo, Abakaliki, Enugu,Owerri,Asaba, Warri, and most of the southwest including Lagos and key northern cities including Abuja, it appeared as though Anambra was the sewer where it's government could not improve the lot of its people. Even the former ANambra regimes played games with the issue while many died and security worsened. I am glad that Anambra finally has a great man who is ready to take the difficult decisions for the greater interest of the state. THANK YOU Gov. WILLIE OBIANO for saving Anambra from this menace called OKADA transport system. |
