But come out into the hot sun and see the hawker racing to make a single sale for which they will gain just a paltry amount.

The only silver lining is that the secret to getting Lucky is too persist while working smart.

Brother mi, I don't have to be a brick layer nor a hawker to be hard-working. The hawker's task might be hectic but does not undermine the fact that one could be hardworking without necessarily getting physically strained. We all have our highs and lows in our various works. The hawker gets to decide the days he'd want to go hawking, he could decide to stay indoors if the weather is bad, he could sleep at night without worrying about ledger not balancing or critical inventory going out of stock at work, some make more money than you and I, etc. A programmer on the hand has an extremely crazy deadline to meet up with (I personally just came back from the office), the programmer must keep studying or he's outdated, he has all his clients' system issues on his shoulders, he's an employee and must be at work regardless of the weather, he stays up at night thinking of algorithms or he's out of business, etc. I didn't bother to mention the amount of sleepless nights he had just to master the art of coding. He might be lucky to have had the chance to go to school but he still had to work hard to make somethings out of that opportunity. Or you think Davido, wizkid, Dangote, Innoson and co do/did not work hard? Again, the point here is not to compare occupations but to emphasise that hardwork is not all about getting physically strained.

You don't sit back at home and hope for luck to visit. You make yourself available so it won't pass you by. And that's by working hard and staying prepared for opportunities. That some people were born into richies doesn't mean others can't work their way in there.

Working smart is a sugar coated expression used to call our attention to the need to adopt efficient means while working hard so as to avoid unnecessary energy and time wasting. That's all about it, don't get carried away.
