This useless thread has gone south. A lab technician who wanted to take over treatment of HepB, and advertise his shop has been bursted.

Lies cannot thrive in this health room when I am still around. I will speak the truth, no matter how unpopular.

Is hepatitis B a health problem?, yes. can anyone talk about it?, yes. Is the topic misleading?, yes. Did he stick to a lab Scientist perspective?, No. Was he professional, and did he deal with the possible complications of hepatitis B exhaustively?, No.

Trying to learn from this thread is gross waste of time, and the reader ends up having half baked knowledge.

Keep motivating urself Aribisala0. The truth is a sweet fragrance and it's follows my every move.

U'll will continually be troubled and discomforted anytime truth shows up.

Giving a sound discourse about medical conditions is not within the purview of a lab technician/scientist.

The beauty about learning is when one makes mistake they'd be corrected not talked down. Even a professor of medicine makes mistakes and when corrected they humbly take up the challenge without grouse let alone a student in training. Mr OP, thanks for the information and heed to correction(s) and make adjustments where necessary, it'd only make you better next time.

If information shared isn't pleasant to you, review and point to obvious adjustments where you aren't okay with. Information should be to feed the public and it's our collective duty as individuals to bring to the notice of this to the market woman in the street, the bus drivers in the park and not to massage and rub our ego.

For those who have corrected, I'm sure the OP would take time out and adjust and should be encouraged to learn more. Correction with love is much more appreciated than with hatred and bitterness.

As common as malaria may sound, so many still haven't gotten the details and still make mistakes when giving out talks about it. Mr OP go work on your lapses and give us more; these people who have criticised you will sit and hear from you.

Happy day to you all.

Spare us the preaching about "correction" No one was doing any correccting.

That is akin to those who talk about Farmer-Herdsmen clash.
It is a massacre not a clash
When you try to be nice and please evrybody you only expose yourself as a hypocrite. People are not stupid they can see through all that bullshite.

This was alway about some people who claim they aree doctors wanting to smack down any attempt "by JOHESU to be relevant".

The OP started this thread and on the very first page I questioned his facts. I believe I did so respectfully and uncontroversially. It was not "correcttion" . So the patronizing use of the word "correction" is foolish.

There was no correction but a bullying attempt at a smack down

The truth about being a doctor is that it is not just about passing exams and that is the problem in Nigeria . If you can get the grades to study medicine you are admitted whether you are a psychopath or paedophile. The fundamental trait of carin about people in a humane way is never interrogated and so you find people who maybe should have been vet doctors or Engineers as doctors in Nigeria. The Nigerian doctor we see here on Nairaland is invariably without the temperament one expects in a doctor when it comes to human interaction.

Is it any wonder then that in the US,UK and elsewhere. The Nigerian doctor is brought before disciplinary hearings many more times than their peers.

At the core here is this idea that I scored highly in JAMB, studied and passed man exams and so I am a deputy to God.

Where do we put all those clever people at Apple and Samsung.

This is not about knowledge but attitude.
An arrogant condescending attiitude by Nigerian trained doctors who in reality only know what they have read in textbooks and little else beside.
A wise doctor would never identify himself in public as a doctor and then proceed to engage in Abuse. That is bringing the profession into disrepute and is very clear evidence of poor training

Good day fellow Naira landers and how is your day going? I am a Medical Laboratory Scientist by training. For the next few days I will delve into Hepatitis B prevention, treatment etc from a Medical Laboratory Scientist view. I will try as much as possible to use layman terms for `a larger audience appreciation` and I will be brief as much as possible. It will be sectioned into days for easier follow up. Thanks.

Day 1
Today I will talk about a little history, testing, contraction and vaccine.

History : Hepatitis B is caused by a virus, hence it is a viral infection. It affects majorly the liver and can cause the infected person to develop liver cirrhosis (cancer of the liver). The liver is a highly functioning organ that to a large extent tolerate a lot of abuse. The liver can get damaged to as much as 70% before the sufferer noticed that there is something wrong with his or her system. Hence the need to get tested as soon as possible

Testing: Whenever you visit a good medical Laboratory and you request for Hepatitis B testing, what they do is to test for the Surface Antigen which is abbreviated as HBsAg(Hepatitis B surface Antigen). If you are positive for Hepatitis B you are said to be HBsAg positive and if otherwise, you are said to be HBsAg Negative.

Contraction: You contract Hepatitis B ( shortened as Hep B) majorly from sex and exchange of infected body fluids (blood, breastmilk, semen etc) and also mother to child transmission (during the course of delivery there is usually exchange of bodily fluids in which infected mother can transmit the virus to her baby)

Prevention: The number 1 prevention is abstinence from sex. You can also take Hepatitis B vaccine which prevents you from ever contracting it. The vaccine are given in 3 dosages(3 shots) intramuscular on your arm at an intervals of like 8 weeks to about 6 months depending on what is in place at where it is being administered. After your last shot, you are given another shot in 10 years time and this is what is referred to as booster dose. You should note that if for any reason you are positive, Hep B vaccines will not work for you; hence you have to go for treatment.
The vaccine works by stimulating your body system to produce what is called `Hepatitis B surface Antibodiesʼ which act as the primary body defender if for any reason you come in contact with the virus.
Thanks.
My q/s is I tested -ve to HB,I only manage to take one dose of d vaccine will it work?

You are a chiild and so for you issues must be reduced to like and hate. You daddy says no Fanta today therefore he hates you.

Let us use an adult vocabulary.
Nothing to do with hate or love.

I have a problem with some self declared doctor using that to bully or intimidate people. Discuss the issues . It brings the profession into disrepute to announce you are a doctor and then engage in abusive behaviour online which you would not publicly associate with your name.

Anyone can claim to be anything.

Discuss the issue of the thread and leave the nonsense out of it

One question to the arguers, can a virologist ( who didn't study medicine at any point ever) give a lecture on hepatitis B?

In all honesty I don't get what the back and forth is about, who can give lecture about what.

Go back to page 0.... read through page 1,2,3,4&5 u will notice that u started dis whole derailment. there were a lot of inappropriate terminologies in the post & his attention was called to it. He never corrected it which warranted others who couldn't stand such catarrhal exudes to advised him to stick to what he knows(diagnostic aspect only) instead of dishing out purulence to the public.

You're as disgusting as your ego and it's very stupid of you to think he cannot talk about hepatitis B because he's not a medical doctor. Virology is not owned by the Nigerian doctor.
Don't mind him,a medical doc is not a virologist,a medical doctors are taught by virologist, biochemist, anatomist, physiologist, pharmacologist, other medical scientist discovered diseases, treatment, drugs, diagnosis via researches & teaches doctors who apply them.

Cattarhal exudes?
This does not make you look clever or intelligent quite the opposite. It reveals you deep insecurity and compensatory psychological strategy.

You really are a child and probably a repressed homosexual

I did not start anything. What I despise is bullies.

Of course bullying is just the outward exuberance of an insecure little boy.

Shut up and and give it a rest.

As a matter of fact Hepatis B is easier to explain than malaria theoretically

so do not make it into a study of quantum physics.
The issue on this thread is some self declared doctors feel they need to put JOHESU in their place.

Why could your excuse of a justification not be done without making it into a tribal war or telling us how doctors are the Chief of Staff to God Almighty himself.

One does not need to be a doctor to understand Hepattis. In fact the top experts on Heatitis are virologists who may or may not be doctors . Most doctors have never examined the Viirus under any circumstances. All they know about it is BY READING in most cases. That information is available to everyone

That's for chronic hep b. Was educated on it when i took the vaccine. If it's not chronic hepatitis b, the body sheds it off after 6 months and the person becomes immune to having it again in future. Even d chronic hep b can be shed off provided d drugs are taken. D doctor said the drugs are about N20,000 for 30 tablets , so getting the vaccine is cheaper. General hospitals give the vaccine free.
Is d vaccine tablet?

Re: Hepatitis B; From A Medical Laboratory Scientist Perspective by aribisala0(m): 1:41pm On Jul 01, 2018
What is important is that people are made more aaware of Hep B and how it is transmitted , how to avoid it by vaccination , hygiene/sanitation and to seek professional help where appropriate.

I think it is important to educate prostitutes and offer them free vaccination.

Like the other time I met you to explain your ignorance why you should use FBC to diagnose CML and use Fab to stage CML and why you ignorantly trashed a doctor's proper diagnosis of S.epidermidis as cause of UTI.
