About 2 weeks to the World Cup, we learnt that Etebo had signed for UK championship side Stoke City. I was shocked. Why oh why do Nigerian players rate themselves so lowly? I knew Etebo would shine at the WC. And he did. The commentators were full of praise for his game. Without a doubt, his performance warranted a few calls from 1st tier leagues. He would have been signed by a proper team to play at the highest levels of the game. All he had to do was be confident in his own abilities, and wait till the end of the World Cup, after he has showcased his talents to all and sundry. THEN sit back and wait for the offers to pour in from major clubs. Instead he rushed to sign for Stoke. Why?

A bird in hand is worth two in the bush. He should use the opportunity to shine better in the premiership just like Victor Moses did: starting from Wigan Athletic and then moving up to Chelsea

That is the wrong mentality if you want to excel. Brazilian, Argentine, Dutch, Spanish, and German players don't reason like that. They know their level and won't settle for less. Stop being so damn 'humble'. It's actually timidity masquerading as pragmatism. Etebo held his own against the best in the world, and caused them problems. When it's time to sign, their players will go for Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern, PSG, while our own rushes to sign for Stoke City. Why?

Stoke City is in the English 2nd division by the way, not the Premiership.
